ITT: share software that are used to manage or share your stash of anime

I will go first, Hydrus is pretty good for downloading 8chan thread and image galleries. >>>/hydrus/

If you are more of a person who browse using phones then I would recommend BooruNav for android, Mignori on iOS, or AnimeBoxes for both platforms.

I have no idea. If you do install zathura and use it for PDFs, install the mupdf plugin instead of the poppler one because mupdf loads PDFs faster. You could just use straight mupdf for PDFs and CBZ archives or just try them both out, see which is more comfortable for you.

While that's fine Zathura's interface is better than MuPDF's and you don't need to learn multiple interfaces for multiple formats, so I'd say Zathura with MuPDF as a backend is better.

It's not bloat either since it just uses the MuPDF library, the interface is separate.

>>105628

Go to github and see how many bugs it has. It's also bloated as shit. Just no.

Transmission for home users, rtorrent for autists downloading things with bots since it's scriptable and has the best torrent protocol implementation.

rtorrent-ps if you want a commandline torrent client, it's pythonshit, but the only alternative for rtorrent is a fucking web interface or playing with folders and the config file.

Hydrus takes in folders, flattens it and dumps it in a DB, so I would like the files to have a symlink such that I can seed the folder's virtual folder while having the actual file in Hydrus

tl;dr hard links (unlike symlinks) are managed by the filesystem and are almost fully transparent to programs. The main downside is, they do not work across filesystem boundaries.

I suggest you read up on how hard links work and behave in more detail.

say your file data is a can of coke in the office fridge. a piece of tape on that can with your name on it would be the file name. if you put another piece of tape on that can with say, your nick name, that would be a hard link. however if you wrote "look at the tape (one piece, not both) to see whose coke this is" on a piece of paper and set the can on top of it, that would be a soft link.

if you take off the first piece(or second) of tape with your name on it, everyone still knows it belongs to you, since the can still has your nickname(real name) on it.

but if your paper said to look at the first piece, and its gone, the paper is broken.

Is this a good analogy? also please get a drawfag to draw one out if it is the case.

hardlinks are not portable by nature (can't move across file systems), I am asking if there are programs that allows you to systematically move them to not break it.

If you move the directory of the Hydrus folder, then the inode may change if it is between file systems i.e. separate disk e.g. external HDD.

If you move the hardlink "file" it would definitely work, but it can never escape the file system in the first place.

WHAT IF I am moving both the original directory AND the hardlink to a new HDD? Something would need to happen to make it work.

I don't use any additional software to organize it, I just the normal filesystem. The whole directory structure is, by now, engraved into my brain.

For watching videos I use MPV, for images, depending on what OS I'm on feh or Irfan View and ranger is a good file browser.

The most useful tool for downloading stuff is wget, for example for scraping all the images from IB threads. It doesn't work well with ddos protection though.

There's also a tool called httrack that I use on sites where wget is missing files, it did a good job making a local mirror with working links of one of the big manga/scanlation sites. It doesn't change links in JS/xhrs though and doesn't have a option to completely strip JS.

Found out some time ago that Dolphin has this handy feature bound to /, which filters the current folder as you type. So for anything I think I'll want to filter I just have to put a short string that won't give too many false positives into the filename (like ~3-4 chars is usually enough).

I have a bunch of folders for boards. It doesn't matter if something didn't come out of that board, I just stick it in the board title that suits it best.

After that I have a bunch of specific folders like "manga", "anime", "bane", with subfolders when applicable. For instance I have an "Evangelion" folder within "anime".

I also separate images from videos. It's not about organization as much as it's keeping the numbers of files and files of roughly different sizes in different folders, because filesystems don't play well with highly varied sizes and file counts.
