Just had a binge read out of Jojo 1-7, /animu/ you weren't kidding when you meant that Part 7 is the best part of the series. The sheer insanity that transpires fits the Bizarre adventure well.

bad things about 6:
slow start like Steel Ball Run but worse
the overall plot is a bit weird with Dios boyfriend/fanboy and all
some really dumb stands
that romance thing between Anasui and Jolyne
that unsolved mystery about Dios other sons and Giorno
ending is not quite satisfying, but atleast it causes a restart for the franchise
good things:
some very interesting stands
Foo Fighters, Anasui
that romance thing between Anasui and Jolyne
roadtrip arc with Anasui and Weather Report

Would have been better if he came up with something new for the universe re-set after part 6. I think it would have been cool to see a character use hamon again after part 2 but we old saw Joseph use it once on Empress. A jojo or enemy using hamon and a stand would have made for a cool battle.

Any part after 4 is pretty meh to be honest. I feel even Araki realizes that himself, at least from mid-part 5 onwards, which is why he killed Jotaro in part 6 so he can have an excuse to reboot the universe/franchise. Part 7 is absolute garbage with the paraplegic bullshit, it's the first JoJo MC that I honestly disliked - while I also think Jolyne was meh, at least she was Jotaro's daughter; ever since part 4 it's obvious that Araki considered Part 3 as his own peak work that he kept having its characters return in later Parts. Part 8 is almost fanfiction tier to suck off the Kira fanboys, and it basically goes nowhere. Writer's block is a dangerous thing.

I find it worse than Part V, barring the final confrontation. I'm probably biased since Part V is set in my home country, but part VI just really goes nowhere, Araki should have chosen whether it would have been wacky hijinks with inmates, sort of a Prison Break but with autistic children and their main powers, OR a continuation of DIO's ascension to godhood. The way chapters are mixed is really weird, at least part V had a coherent plot from beginning to end and other than Diavolo and Giorno's, most of the Stands and character designs are relatively straightforward in their usage and looks.
But the final battle in Part VI is hands down the fucking tightest shit ever. It's really prolonged but you really feel the hopelessness of the whole situation and every character makes a point that this is it, this is where the Joestar bloodline ceases to exist. I'd have rather preferred if they had Josuke's descendant in part VII but I will take Fingernail Cowboy vs The Goddamn US President in the Old West over anything else.

Vento Aureo is probably my favorite part. Not going to watch the anime until it's over, though. Watching everything at once tends to be a better experience overall. Stone Ocean is the worst part, though it's still fun. I think Araki was having a lot of issues with Shonen Jump at the time, to the point that he moved to Ultra Jump later on. We will never know, but maybe that could be a little bit of an excuse.

So what I'm getting at it's pacing issues, and the lack of a goal and need for the main cast that hinders Part 6, but the finale for Part 6 makes it worth the reading. Thanks anons, I'll do my best on finishing Parts 2-5, and stomach through 6 when I ever reach that part. Speaking of reading, are the light novels that are translated worth reading and considered canon? Also, for the old OVAs, are they worth watching for shits and giggles, or just skip that shit?

The Part 3 OVA is pretty good but they took a lot of liberties from the main series, not that it makes it worse. There's a baller Italian dub, too.
Also I'm fairly certain that Araki started putting naked or scantily clad women in part VIII just to tell fanartist that they're all guys being dudes.

I honestly cannot remember the ending for DIU, but I read that the budget for all of part 4 was lower than Part 3 since Parts 3 and 5 are Japan's favourites (fucking computer telling me there is no u in favourite). I thought the shit on Bucciarati's chest was a lace trim on his jacket, it always seemed like that in the manga, but the anime makes it clear those are tattoos. It's probably just me but I hate tattoos so much, they're so ugly.

Giorno walks out of Bucciarati's range and the zippers disappear, while the kid had been out of Bucciarati's range this whole time but the zipper on his arm is still there. Araki constantly breaks the rules he established, and somehow he's completely immune from being shat upon. If this was any other work people would've been quick to point out this kind of fuckery.

#JustLittleArakiThings
Part III is the moment most people realized Jojo runs on negative canon and Araki doesn't bother keeping up with his own rules, there's plenty of stuff that breaks the timeline or the ruleset of the universe just to make the story work somehow, though it's only a problematic thing in Part V where every single Stand rule gets broken per chapter.
The "explanation" that the author himself and other autists came up with is that Wang Chan (the chinaman that carries Dio's head) had a coffin for himself as well with a similar design, making it so it's 2 coffins rather than one. Why it doesn't also sink to the bottom of the ocean is a [Mystery].
Seriously, there's loads of continuity errors that can be fixed by using Araki's own logic, and then there's stuff that he just kind of forgets about for no reason at all.

Actually there IS, but it's like, a bit in Part III, a bit in all others, then in Part VII they do a full explanation in an extra chapter of how Stands work on a fundamental level (and retcon the Tibetan Sun Kungfu into being part of its learning process) - then Araki immediately proceeds in breaking the ruleset he just came up with literally the next chapter. Guy's fucking insane.
If you want one I'll be a nice guy and spoiler it for you:
Stands are HALF of the manifestation of the power of an ancient meteor that hit the Earth and was uncovered by a bowyer, who crafted its precious metal into a magical bow and arrow with the arcane knowledge that came from being exposed to the meteor. Long story short, Stands are the physical manifestation of humanity's hidden (mental) potential, with the strength and capabilities of each being tied to the personality and mental faculties of its wielder. To gain one, you must either 1) get penetrated by the arrow, which is magnetically attracted to those with potential i.e. whoever Araki needs to dress like a fucking loser 2) be born from or be related by blood to someone who gains a Stand 3) have the Stand literally imprinted into you either from another user or because the Stand itself is sentient or other bullshit that benefits the story. The real purpose of the bowyer though was to grant "Requiem" status to the Stands themselves, basically you can think of a Stand as someone's "soul", if THAT gets penetrated then the Stand gains a different kind of conscience, basically it fulfills whatever wish its wielder had the moment they achieve Requiem status and it itself gains an understanding of life greater than anyone else, as well as new powers that are bullshit ridiculous.

DIO used Hermit Purple on a metal camera. Wasn't this supposed to imply that The World was a stand that granted him access to all other tarot stands? I thought this might still be the case in addition to timestop, and that he may have kept it secret and actually taken control of Joseph's body, but then Joseph can walk in broad daylight and is aging in Part 4. Was the reason everyone was tight lipped about DIO's stand secret actually because Araki hadn't decided on what it was himself yet? Why can Jotaro and DIO fly with Super Saiyan auras all of sudden? Why doesn't Jotaro seem to be using this power in Part 4 to cover distance more quickly?

The initial idea was that Dio had access to all the Tarot, yes(with TimeStop being Jotaro's ability that Dio thought was his own).
However Araki couldn't figure out a way to defeat him in that form that wasn't the largest asspull in history so it got retconned to only be timestop and the Hermit Purple variant became the remnants of the stand that Jonathan would have gained. You can still see some of the fuckery in the plot like when he heals Pucci's leg somehow.(Though I suppose you could wave that away as vampire bullshit)
> Why can Jotaro and DIO fly with Super Saiyan auras all of sudden?
They are technically jumping off of things using their stand's limbs instead of theirs, the aura is just there to keep accurate to the manga panels.
The part 4 anime is kinda stuck in between with the designs/artstyle since Araki was chaning the way he draws as the chapters were coming out and DavidPro didn't want to lean too heavily on one style.

Nigger Araki couldn't keep Hamon consistent for the two shortest parts let alone stands over 6. Araki is great for his art, his creativity with fights and personalities he gives even the smallest of roles, but god be damned if he can be consistent for more than 3 chapters at a time. Nah, Josuke does what Joseuke wants.
Also apparently he's not broken per se, just different, there's like some sort of time frame for how back in the past something must have changed before Josuke can fix it.
>>96224
The original plot was going to be Josuke giving his past self the strength to move on by activating Bite the Dust and saving everyone from dying but Araki simply felt it was too retarded even by his standards so no that guy is literally a random ass greaser yanki
>>96226
Gay poses aside, Josuke's much more masculine in the manga
Also, DIO's real Stand power is the ability to copy the Joestar's since he was a leech all his life. He has access to Hermit Purple when he communicates with Joseph, Crazy Diamond when he gets to fix Pucci's lame foot, Star Platinum when he gets to time stop and no one is really that sure about Jonathan as he does not have a Stand of his own.
Some people claim Jonathan's Stand was The World but that's kind of retarded.
Also about them flying around, the manga took many liberties for the sake of fluid movement but really they're just jumping around and it's easier to make it look natural within the gutters of a manga than on screen.
>>96271
>Has he been just making up the story as he goes along from the beginning?
Yes, part VII is the most egregious example since he changed it like four times over
Stands are a bizarre phenomenon that is basically someone achieving his highest potential, they hand wave it as having many different origins other than the bow and arrow like with Hamon being human's attempt at making Stands passed on through training but at the end of the day you just have to accept at face value everything that's going on without questioning it too much. Logic won't make the manga any better and that's why part VIII is the absolute worst.

Stands have multiple origins. The first chapter in which they appear, they're referred to as "The Ghostly Ripple" which implies they're a form of Hamon. Araki says that Hamon users get vine-like stands and Joseph was using Hermit Purple during Part 2, but we couldn't see it, which explains his prediction abilities. Johnathan's would have been called "The Passion," which is what DIO inherited when he took Johnathan's body.
Also, Jotaro isn't at his peak in Part 4, hence the shortened timestop.

Part 5 is pretty bad. At least as far as the anime goes. It pisses me off when he kills characters and then brings them back like its nothing. It cheapens the suspense of the story. Mista should have died. But even then I can ignore that stuff.
The grateful dead fight was peak jojos for me. It had interesting and consistent stands. It had real consequences. The fight felt clever and not full of ass pulls. There was even character growth with Pesci becoming a man.
All of the fights after that one have been mostly garbage. The fight after that was retarded and gave Giorno healing abilities making all injuries sustained in battle inconsequential. How do you expect me to care about a character getting shot 30 times when I now he's not going to die or be permanently altered. Then there is also the fact that all of the characters magically have knowledge of each others exact plans and strategies for no reason at all. These fights just aren't clever at all. There's no ah ha or oh shit moments for the ups and downs of the fights. The green day fight was alright but oasis was filled with the same ass pulls. Its really a shame because these stands are pretty interesting and could have been so much better.

It's adapted the manga almost perfectly. None of what you listed is problems with the show but with the series as a whole. Jojo is full of ass pulls from the Jojos. Mista getting repeatedly injured but not quite dying is a plot point revealed in the very end.

The things I dislike most about part 5 is just how pointless Abbacchio's death turned out to be and the entirety of the "Requiem" shit.

The point of Abbachio's death is to establish just how big of a threat the boss is while also giving the gang an idea of what he looks like. Requiem is all to give the final arc more over the top circumstances. Why people get mad the son of DIO/"God" gets an ultimate all powerful stand is beyond me.

Abbachio's death wasn't the pointless one, Narancia's was.

>while also giving the gang an idea of what he looks like
This is what I'm talking about. There's this pretense that Abbacchio managed to aid Bruno and the gang even in death, but it's actually just a red herring that prevents them from dealing with him until Silver Chariot Requiem happens. Because he showed Diavolo's face instead of Doppio's, they're looking for a man who practically does not exist. And by the time they actually have a body to associate with that face, it's Bruno using that body and Turtle-Polnareff is there to explain everything they need to know about Diavolo anyways. The only thing Abbacchio truly accomplished there was indirectly getting Polnareff, a man he'd never met or known about, killed.
>Requiem giving the final arc more over the top circumstances
That doesn't make it any less garbage. SCR was promising, but it went out like a total bitch. So irrelevant that killing it wasn't even done to undo the body swap shenanigans, it was done just to keep the arrow out of Diavolo's grasp. And as for GER, how am I supposed to care about a fight where the villain literally can't do anything? He can't fight. He can't defend himself. He can't run. Fuck, the fact that he's even breathing is a miracle, since afaik GER could just suffocate him to death via the power of "No". There is absolutely no tension left.
>Narancia
I imagine that if Abbacchio's final act wasn't completely moot, I'd actually care more about this. The only part about it that bugged me is that it really doesn't mesh well with how King Crimson supposedly works.

The tension was getting the arrow. Not the fight itself.

>tumblr fanbase for part 6
Let me guest, they are anime onlies? Because from all the parts i feel that part six would have a big chance to booty blast their faggot asses and stir up some drama because
1)it has the biggest amount of females getting brutalized/gore out
2)jolyne is not a mary sue and she has daddy issues
3)first female jojo and everybody dies
also, unpopular opinion, part six it`s actually an amazing part and for me it stands by the side of steel ball as my two favorite parts of all of jojo´s

>Also, Jotaro isn't at his peak in Part 4, hence the shortened timestop.
Is this explained in the manga or something? There was nothing to even hint at that in the show.

The speculation is that he just didn’t train with it after part 3, sort of like how Joseph went from being a god with the ripple in part 2, to barely being able to use it in part 3. If you go off into fan head canon territory, there’s explanations ranging from “Jotaro dislikes using the time stop because it gives him ptsd flashbacks of Dio “killing” his grandfather and finding Kakyoin’s body” to “Stand Power is tied to breathing like the ripple, and since Jotaro is a smoker, it makes sense that he’d have reduced lung capacity and thus reduced time stop, he quits sometime between part four and part six and thus his time stop duration goes up”
Really, it’s just that Araki nerfed Star Platinum over several parts because he realized that if he kept it at part three levels the narrative would lose any kind of serious stakes, imagine Sheer Heart Attack If Jotaro had the time stop duration of part three, or the last fight with Pucci if he had both the part three time stop and Star finger.

It could be argued that without Pol contacting them(which wouldn't have happened if they didn't have that face) there was close to no way for them to find and defeat the boss before Bucciarati expired.

They say that he just (close to) never used it after the whole Dio business, whether he intentionally avoided doing it or just autismed himself into not realising how useful time stop would be is unsure.

Welp, part 5 anime is finally over today. thanks for the wait david
My opinions on part 5 have changed somewhat now that the anime's over. I should really go back and reread the manga just to check, but I remember reading the original translation and finding it pretty boring. I suppose I can chalk that up to the translation because I actually enjoyed part 5 more after watching the anime. It's still not my favorite part (it's currently middle of the pack for me, I'd say at least beating out 1 and 6, possibly 8 as well if it continues going nowhere), and Giorno's still a little boring, but it was a pretty fun ride throughout.
Also happy they not only threw in a second special OP for GER, but also updated the ED visuals one last time for Rolling Stone and GER.
Now it's time to wait for part 6 so we can slog through that to get to part 7. I want my horse racing bromance already, dammit.
