Shigurui.

This anime will never be finished. It's truly a sad thing to behold, to be honest, so let's have a Shigurui tribute thread.

If you've not watched it, I highly recommend it.

Also, since nobody translated this excellent novel yet, I've got slightly angry and devoted a bit of time to translation.

The issue is that none of the languages are native for me, so the writing, I believe, is bad enough. Sadly, not on par with Wilde's level.

It is still interesting to read this one, though, even with a bad writing.

If anyone has at least some skill in writing (and english as their native language), please don't hesitate and improve the text.

I will probably reupload this in future, but for now, if you know a better service - please reupload and share links (probably torrent, too).

Shigurui is part of a genre that is known as 残酷時代劇 zankoku jidaigeki (literally cruel period drama), they're meant to be more than just cool sword fights. Rather, they tend to be about exploring the dark side of the so-called bushido code and the culture of the era they're in, e.g social injustices, women being low in the social hierarchy and have no power, powerful men abusing others because of their status, bushido being portrayed as not just some kind of Romantic Honorable ideal but brutal, extremist and destructive. In that sense, the rape scenes are there to illustrate that abuse of power; they're part and parcel of depicting the underbelly of the period.

To get more feel of these themes, you can also try reading works by Koike Kazuo, such as <Kozure Ookami> or <Kubikiri Asa>.

<Blade of the Immortal> however, is probably just Samura's ryona fetish.
