More people are watching anime which is good but then again it fucking sucks. The reason why is because most of the people watching it are “normies”. Let me explain. As you could tell, there has been an increase in anime “fans” during quarantine who mostly spam about My hero Academia and Haikyuu (Or just any basic ass Shōnen) but what differentiates them from the average “new anime fan” is that they are normies (mostly Kpop fans, which is obvious to tell since they act like fucking children and spam “aesthetic vibes💞✨” or spam random letters instead of fucking laughing. We all know who they are and we all hate them. Most coming from twitter (which is a fucking cesspool I know)). They have ruined our once loved reputation of anime and morphed it into something that only adults with the mentality of a 14 year old would like. The wave of “new normie fans” won’t end for the foreseeable future since it is a trend. Mind you, these were the same people who complained that anime fans were pedos a few years ago and the same people who made fun of us for watching anime as kids. It’s just weird to see the these people now pretend that they’ve been a fan for a long time only because it’s a “trend” It just makes me angry.
You might call me petty, I don’t care but I want out old community back. I want the community that I grew up with back. I’m sure some of you won’t care and some of you might agree. It would be great for me to hear your responses.
I might’ve missed some things out but whatever, I guess.

Well Idk. I never got to see a decent "anime community" to begin with. I started watching anime in like 2015 or something, because I was a coomer degenerate, and some ecchi crap caught my interest. Then, I started watching shows for the plot, and moved on to a lot of action and slice of life stuff.
I've never really had any conversations with anyone online about anime. Youtube, Reddit, and Twitter are obviously soylent shitholes, and 4chan's /a/ rarely has any threads up that appeal to me.
Maybe I came after the community had gone to shit, idk. I've just never had much desire to engage with the other people in this hobby.
Tell me; what was it like in the good old days that was so different from how it is now?
Maybe I missed out on something.

As long as I can remember 4chan also rarely had threads that appealed to me as well.
8chan was great before things went south. There were great and varied threads about old stuff, current season anime and news.

Things move extremely slow here, but at least the people on this site are actually here to discuss our interests and not just to follow trends.
I never used 8chan tbh. I knew of it's existence, but the boards I used on 4chan were still usable for the most part so I never bothered seeking alternatives.
I still use /out/ pretty frequently. It was never really invaded, because it's not one of the boards that gets advertised all over reddit and youtube as a "super secret cool kids club."

Big anime watcher here, and I agree. Newer animes have been way too "casual". This process started happening in the early 2000s for games and anime alike, and that's why I don't play games and no longer watch anime. So I have a strong dislike of casuals as well.
