Don't chuck out the old /animu/ banners, though, There needs a constant affirmation that we persevered.
500kB for a banner is a bit much for a 300x100 image, imho. That's PNG 48bit+alpha phoneposting zoomer territory. Optimizing the submissions is the go.

Did some experimenting with it. Still doesn't work that great for things like text bubbles at really low dimensions, but that's just my take on it. Still good to have some greyscale variants though, and I suppose it might just come down to finding which one works with the tones in a screencap the best.

Depending on what you're using, you can change how the gif compiles its colors from the original document. Additionally, don't go all "aspect raidou" with it. Keep the components the proper proportions, and maybe cull some frames from the end. Or at least, it seems to pause there on my browser and feels awkward.
