This is the kind of show you can't enjoy unless you played an MMO that just did it for you. I used to do shit similar to what Maple does when I played my first MMO, so a lot of the time she does something retarded, I can't help thinking that I would have done something similar. If the show manages to have a conflict Maple can't fix with a single hydra summon, it might actually end up decent.

dropped it after 3 episodes. It was alright in that at least it had no real illusion that it was a ridiculous over the top anime but I found the imaginary game mechanics to be shit and in general it suffers from the ready player one problem where if it were real life the MC wouldn't have been able to exploit the game like she did.

The anime does a better-than-expected job of showing what actual MMORPG playing is like: no one gives a shit about the story, everyone is fucking around and finding huge game imbalances that the GMs never bothered to consider, and quests don't take into account the different experiences players have, producing goofy results. The GMs (who are a bunch of assholes that actively try to punish the playerbase) respond with hard nerfs that everyone works around anyway because the game is still full of holes, and the process repeats. Yet despite all of these problems, MMOs are still fun to play if you have good friends and enjoy messing around in the game world.
That's what this anime is all about as well as cute girls and decent fight scenes and it's a pleasant surprise after watching Infinite Dendogram, which is really by-the-book in comparison.

perhaps the reason i don't like most vidya anime is because i never had those particular experiences with vidya, and the closest to it was the initial awe, adventure and teen drama of sao, to the final loneliness and nostalgia of overlord
