At what point does ZZ Gundam stop being boring? Really enjoyed
the original and Zeta, but this a slog so far.
Also, Shin Mazinger Great-hen when?

If you dont like it by about episode 15 then you're not going to like it. Personally I enjoyed it almost as much as its predecessors.

Never been a Gundam fan, but after finding out that Mari Okada took a dump in front of her boyfriend to test him, I went to see what series this mad lady produced (hint: a fuckton) and Iron-Blooded Orphans was on the list. Now I want to see it, just to peek in her deranged mind.

>In her early 20s, she describes her insecurity in dating somebody for the first time. So she hatches a plan: “I was afraid of what would happen if he overestimated me… The answer I arrived at was to leave open the toilet door and do my business in front of him. If he didn’t hate me after that, then I could believe his affection was genuine.”

I find that shojo is a little less formulaic although of course it has it's own problems whereas shonen will often just fall into formulaic shit especially power levels and tournaments.

I was enjoying Escaflowne, but the ending really soured my opinion of it. Not enough to ruin the show or anything, but it felt like they had another cour of material they tried to cram into the last few episodes.

**Everything about Dilandau was poorly done, never actually explained why the empire decided to entrust a large number of soldiers and its most advanced tech to a mentally unstable science experiment that wasn't particularly good at fighting or tactics. His being Allen's sister was annoying in that it could have been a great twist, but it happens so suddenly with almost no build up.
The asspull superweapon at the end pretty much invalidated the empire's whole military might thing, again could have been good with some buildup but it just shows up in one scene and then gets used.
And the 'yes we're in love but must part and never see each other again' ending isn't great, but I was expecting that so it could have been worse.**
All of the said the show is still good, great fight scenes and mecha design, 10/10 OST. Definitely worth watching even if Hitomi gets too preachy at times.

Try watching Fruits Basket if you think shoujo is less formulaic. I enjoy shoujo too but let's not pretend it doesn't have the same highs and lows as most other genres.

Oh yeah, that second part. Literally could not have happened and still had the same shit go on. I don't really get it. I mean I guess they were up against the wall but yeah.
And I always kinda figure they will meet again at some point, I mean the thing can make a portal.

Episode one. You just have to watch it through the lens of it being "Xabungle in space" with extra worldbuilding rather than a followup to Zeta.

Probably never since Imagawa isn't interested in anime anymore. Not only is he the only one fit for the job, I'd argue he's the only one who would even want to do it.

I did put a caveat in there, I'm fully aware they still fall into the same traps, but at the same time I would say they somehow manage to stave off the inevitable decline. I think probably because they're more character driven.

I missed watching Unicorn when it first aired. Did Unicorn confirm that both Char and Amuro are officially dead? How did the fanbase initially react? Personally, it seems kinda cheap to kill off both Amuro and Char in such an ambiguous way at the end of Char's Counterattack.

When Full Frontal dies there's some weird Newtype bullshit where Lalah and Amuro speak to the fragment of Char's... soul? psyche? that's been clinging to Frontal, telling him he needs to let go and move on, at least from what i remember, so it's ambiguous, they might have just become one with the Newtype life stream or some shit, but they are pretty much dead.

It's the capitol of New South Wales, but I wasn't aware that Canberra was the capitol of the whole country. I've heard of Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane before, but never Canberra.

>they might have just become one with the Newtype life stream or some shit
I actually liked how it was handled with Banagher and his father. Banagher died and was reunited with his father, but was able to return to life after that reunion. It also helped that his body wasn't vaporized. Had he stayed dead, that would have been an acceptable ending to me, because his story had closure. Had Char's Counterattack ended with at least a tombstone for Amuro, that would have been great. Even Amuro closing his eyes one last time would have sufficed.

Is watching the original gundam from 79 required to enjoy or get zeta and zz? I've seen opinions on the chans before that those are the most interesting and best of the old 80s shows? I've seen other gundam shows before so I won't really be super lost. I'm just looking for interesting stuff to watch to past the time.
