It's rarely ever mentioned in the VNs, but it does get addressed. The first game mentions that cats are widely accepted enough that there's almost no social stigma about having a cat as your girlfriend, but there's a guy in the third game who talks mad shit when he finds out that Cinnamon and Maple are going to be the musicians at a party, so clearly there's still some people who don't accept cats. Personally, I'd love to see a Nekopara game that takes place during the early days of cat integration with cats being considered abominations, but it would definitely go against the tone the games are aiming for.

There's nothing wrong with SOL, but it seems like they're trying to have their cake and also eat it by implying, thinly, a measure of depth to the setting far outside of the genres scope. If cats are both accepted and sometimes not, then that raises all sorts of questions that could be addressed. Off the top of my head, if catgirls are accepted as girlfriend material then what about the roasties? Why haven't men abandoned obsolete womyn entirely and invented interbreeding possibilities? are they even trying? Since they are the 2nd most sapient species on the planet, do they have rights? My problem isn't it being a cgdct anime, I quite like those and sol in general. Hell, Aria is my favorite anime.
My problem is this anime sucks.
Most of the episodes are just plots repeated to death in other anime, and they add nothing to them except "but this time it's fucking cat girls". Speaking of which, it never goes anywhere with that aside from "they like fish and to go inside boxes". They're not funny, they're not interesting, there's no depth to them, they're completely one-tone, and the only consistently amusing one has the single character trait of being horny all the time. The only thing they have going for them is they're cute. Which could have been enough if they bothered at all and didn't copy paste generic sol ideas for most of the episodes.
I could go on about how the opening is complete cancer, and the soundtrack in general is pretty generic. Or how the voices are too annoying for this to actually be a relaxing anime, but I'll leave it that.
