Fuck 4chan, taking refuge here. Anyone else coming along?

The rules here are also fucked. There's no point. Could have been a mass exodus but no.

Yeah but there's no active mod here. Or really any recent posters. We could just do what we want for the time being. I applied for ownership of the board.

Same. Welcome aboard /vr/o!. It's like 2014 all over again.
>>8035
It's still better than the obvious bait-fest by zoomers going on in half-chan's /vr/.
>>8036
Good luck and keep it retro /vr/o

Will do. Once I get things going I'll start posting links over there. Hopefully some people will jump over

I actually wanted to stay on 4chan because I wasn't entirely against 6th gen, but the amount of shitposting is unbareable, /vr/ is not browseable anymore over there.
Any idea why they ditched /v2k/? Having a place to discuss 6th gen and also 7th gen seemed neat. I don't think zoomers are the ones who advocated for the /vr/ rule change, since zoomers would also like 7th gen discussion. I think it was just trolls who wanted to see /vr/ dead.

Yeah I would have stayed but it's clear that any discussion of older games is just gonna get drowned out by spam or derailing. I don't really see it dying down, it's just an extension of /v/ now. I don't think they ever really considered making a new board, but who knows. It would have been the best option.

The thing is that the issue with the rules won't stop.
6th gen got into /vr/, but 7th gen still doesn't have its own place. So the same problem we had before with people posting 6th gen and people going "not retro" as a response, will continue now, but with 7th gen instead of 6th gen.
The people who are happy with the rules can't be the same ones who want to discuss video games. /v2k/ was the best option that would have left everybody (who actually wanted to discuss vidya instead of shitpost) happy.
But I guess the bad guys won.

They have no choice but to add 7th gen at some point, the precedent is set now. I agree, most of the 6th gen posts hardly get any replies. It's all about flooding the board just because they can. No point in trying to reason with mods there, just gonna move on

Yep. Anything that would or wouldn't be allowed on /vr/ prior to the rule change applies here. I updated the sticky with rules today.

Just made sure because it says everything 1999 or earlier is allowed but everything 6th gen is not (dreamcast is 6th gen)

Good luck with this new board, I'll be trying to participe as often as I can.
What are your plans regarding console wars and ironic shitposting? Say, if bernieposting becomes a thing here, or the sega system spam. That was kind of a foreshadowing of the fall of /vr/ this past couple months.

This is a good point. One of the biggest problems of /vr/ was that the wording in the sticky was messy.
I'd personally eliminate any mention of "generation". Let it be simple: Systems from 1999 and before only. That's it.
Would also need to think about something regarding PC though, which is a lot more difficult to regulate than consoles since there's different graphics cards and individual parts that might or might not play certain very non-retro games with seemingly older hardware. Maybe do a clear cutoff for PC games, like no PC games released after 2001 or so (which is when most of the latest PS1, N64 and DC games came out).
Just giving some ideas so we don't run into the same problems old /vr/ had with the wording of the sticky.

for PC, I would also suggest the 1999 or earlier rules, but games that came out early 2000 and are clearly no troll threads should still be allowed, for example Deus Ex or Sims

Thanks. I don't mind a little ironic shitposting but I'll delete it if it gets out of hand. Console warring is kind of unavoidable I think but as long as it doesn't outweigh the discussions I won't go to crazy with modding. If it's one guy spamming threads like the Bernie or Sega System posts, that I'd be more strict on. Memeing is fine just don't overdo it. At least be creative if you do.

I updated it to remove the generation bit. I know PC can be a grey area but for now I'll keep it as is, hopefully it's clear enough. If it becomes an issue than I'll revise it.

I've been spamming links over there, mainly in threads that raise issue with the rules. Mods seem to be deleting those now though pretty quickly. I think open discussion about the rules are gonna be shut down just like they were before the change. I'll be slow to grow but I'm sure some people will check it out if it keeps somewhat active here

/vr/ on 4chan was the last good board on the site before, no pepes or wojaks, just games. Like a gaming board should be. Now with this new rule to add 6th gen games it's completely flooded. Rest in Piece good buddy…

It was basically the last refuge. With /vr/ gone I honestly don't think there's any good boards left on it. With the mods basically nuking it, they made my choice to transition to this board easy.

Ah, well, I don't really browse those boards. I'm sure the more slow moving boards are better. /v/ and occasionally /vr/ have been, for the most part, have been my main boards. And I only really used /v/ out of habit. These past few years I can sort of see rhe benefit of more slow moving ones. Less shitposting. But for a while I was accustomed to the constant, instant feedback of /v/

It should be if it could run on period-correct PC hardware from the '90s, then it gets a pass on /vr/. So, games like Deus Ex or McGee's Alice are considered retro despite coming out after 1999, because you could run it on PC parts that existed in the '90s. Another criteria could be if the PC game doesn't support DX7 or OpenGL 1.2.1 (their last versions before Y2K), then it's not /vr/.

Since you are kind of doing a board clean up, I think it wouldn't hurt if you prune all threads with a broken OP image

But I'm sure you could get games released into 2004, 2005 to technically "run" on hardware from 99. I think the most current OS the game supports at the time of its release is less ambiguous.
>>8075
I was thinking about what to do with those. Mass deleting non-spam posts is against the mod rules here I guess and there's so many of them that I might get called out on that if I did. I've deleted some low content ones. I might just lock or autosage the ones with long histories and actual discussion. I'd kind of feel bad outright deleting them too. But I locked a few and made new threads.

At least people are posting again. For the record, I only let 6th gen in because people here asked for it, when there was a poster or two. I prefer the current rules. Kinda bummed the edits I made for the stickies are gone though.

Most of those were old threads that didn't survive the transfer over to the new domain for whatever reason. I don't get it either. Half made it, half didn't. None were deleted by me or anyone else.
