I suppose I could've made a shorter thread subject, but I didn't, because I'm evil.
Anyway, for me that game would be Big Red Racing. Such a fun wacky racing game. Me and a friend used to play the demo for hours just trying to make big jumps outside the track.
Actually I've spent more time playing the demo than the full game. Those were the days!
I'm afraid that if I were to ever try the game again, it wouldn't feel special and I'd just be like "That's all it was?" and all the good memories of it would be ruined.
Got any games like that, /vr/?

Most of the N64's library, to be honest. I have fond memories of them all, but I realise it is pure nostalgia.

Cruising World for the N64 and Quest 64, i actually remember most of Quest 64 and know it will be really bland and boring if i try again.
I don't think there are many games that upon replaying will turn out to be a disappointment.
What was then good is still good today.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play. Virtua Fighter 1, I've got a lot of fond memories of playing it at a grocery store after school. I don't think I could go back to it after how much each game improved on the last

this is true tbh, I just sold all of my n64 shit. Might keep sm64 on an emulator but holy shit
a weekend near my last birthday i had a few friends over for some goldeneye and mario kart 64 and it was the most boring stale shit ever. these are like regarded as the games EVERYBODY loved right? and it was just painful to look at, really unentertaining and generally just all the same shit over and over again

Maybe Return Fire.
I remember playing it with my brothers, the laughing skull was the greatest thing at the time.
Tank Arena (1997) as well was good fun.

sometimes that games are better than you remember because you have hardware to run higher settings. eg those dos games from the 90s that ran slow af in 640x480

Can't think of one right now, but pic related is where it already happened. Before trying to play it again a few years ago I thought I was just too dumb/unskilled to finish it. Turned out its gameplay really becomes more and more bullshit as time goes on.

Really? I played Goldeneye with my buddies a while ago and it was decent fun. And this is us not having played Goldeneye in years.
