So, I'm trying to build a decent collection of Saturn games and it has come to my attention that both PAL and NTSC Japanese games the other region doesn't have.

From what I've researched the US has:

Iron Storm
Magic Knight Rayearth
Albert Odyssey
Astal

Europe has:
Deep Fear
Keio 2 Flying Squadron
Dragoball Z The Legend
King of Fighters 94

Any other games I should know? I'd rather collect games in a language I understand instead of importing straight from Japan. Speaking of which, are Astal, Magic Knight and Albert Odyssey good?

I already have most of the PAL exclusive games. My opinion so far:

Keio 2 Flying Squadron: Not worth the price it goes for these days. It's a good-ish platformer but that's about it.

Dragonball is fun at first but gets really repetitive later on. At least it's affordable.

Better than Resident Evil 1, not as good as Resi 2. Extremely overpriced

>are Astal, Magic Knight and Albert Odyssey good?
Astal is garbage. It's extremely overrated by a lot of people because it's the only 2D Sega developed platformer on the system. Truth is it's incredibly boring with horrible level design and slow tedious gameplay.
Albert Odyssey is your average generic JRPG. Can't comment on MKR coz i've only played it for about 15 mins.

Get the Japanese version, it's probably a lot cheaper.

I paid £60 for the Japanese version. It's okay. I really wanted to like it more than I actually did.

I got me a Model 2 Saturn and 5 games for $60 complete with box and an extra model 1 controller at the thrift store today. This thread is now relevant to my interests :)

I heard someone is making a Saturn flash cartridge though.

panzer dragoon 1 and 2 are great, apparently so is panzer dragoon saga but I'm not a billionaire so I couldn't say personally.

only other Saturn games I've given much time to are some predictable fighters like mega mix, the alpha series and the sf2 collection. the sf2 collection was the definitive version before HD remix was released.

outside of these, the Saturn had lots of good shmups but I am not the anon to go into details on that genre

This seems like a good place to ask - If you never had a Saturn, is it worth getting one and starting a collection? I'm already planning on expanding my weak Dreamcast collection

Saturn is pretty good, but it's essentially worthless if you don't get an action replay so you can play imports.

It's not as worth it as it used to be, because a lot of the games are arcade games that you can just play on MAME.

There's still a handful of great exclusives on there though.

Saturn Bomberman I read was a great game but rare as fuck.

Also check out Enemy Zero for an obscure horror game. Basically Alien with invisible aliens in a first person perspective, also an RE save system expect it also costs to load your game as well.

Check out this rare white saturn I found on ebay!

Anyway, Is there any online stores(not ebay or amazon) that sell saturn games? Aot of the games are crazy high. Is it because saturn is pretty much a niche console? I figured importing would be cheaper(because japan is flooding in saturn games), but alot of imports I've seen go pretty high too.

Didnt buy it. I was looking up imports and it was ending soon. I kind of laughed at the title "WHITE RARE SEGA SATURN" and I think they wanted $25. Here's a dreamcast.

I'm pretty sure he's a japanese guy who goes to junk shops and buys these and resells them to americans who want cheap imports.

This Dreamcast has a name Keighty Six

How cute

Would I need a Japanese DC if I have an American one? Can I just burn the games to CD-R and play them without a Japanese console? Apologies for my lack of understanding regarding the DC, but I know the Saturn was region locked

Assuming it isn't one of the games that actually makes use of the extra space a GD-ROM provides, you'd be perfectly fine.

Only NTSC-J game I can think of that I've played on mine is Triggerheart Exelica, but it worked without any problems.

To correct myself, I've also played Ikaruga and Guilty Gear X on it, and they both work fine as well.

Are you wanting to collect or you want to play?

If you want to play just modchip it, and get an Action Replay. Cause sheesh some of those games are expensive like Street fighter zero 3 + cart

The Initial D game for the Saturn wasn't as bad as it looked especially since there wasn't any eurobeat.

Panzer Dragoon Saga is MUCH more common in Japan. It's not super expensive if you buy an import version.

It's the best game on the system. Hands down.

I remember 2 games in particular

Mr Bones wasnt a great game, but its one hell of a meme fest

there was a game made by Enix. I cant quite remember the name, but you control some big airships in a strategy game that kinda reminds me of Valkyria Chronicles, just a little more primitive
