You can change outfits, select a few hair styles, and add accessories as far as appearance goes. Weapons also have unique looks that are visible. Pantsu are visible but you can't customize them, they just come with whatever outfit you have on. There is no clothing destruction like in Action Unlimited. The gameplay is a little different, but it's not really any better or worse. The writing is far better though. It's a solid $5 game if you're buying, maybe a little more, but it's pretty low on content. I did pretty much everything in ~25 hours.

Grind is mostly necessary if you don't really dig into the gameplay mechanics (like me) but the game's sort of designed for you to explore and complete quests so it doesn't work out too badly. That's correct. Only a couple of the English VAs are OK and they're all worse than their Japanese counterpart. Plus, if you end up playing the next two, this series does in fact have quite a lot of overt video game references (vid 1), but the English translation decided it needed more memes and it's not faithful. For those you're expected to use their Re;translation and that is at odds with the dub. Quality aside it's also a lot of fun to pick up on some of the language-specific puns (like the nurse eggplants, or the portmanteau (vid 2) that is literally "dumb Goddess") or random Engrish.

Also at least for first play, I hope you're not using the DLC characters. It doesn't matter so much but they're all really powerful. There's similar things to watch out for in the other two.

To add to this a bit more since I just started a from-scratch play of Re;birth 3, there's sometimes good reason to move back some at the start of battle, since enemies chase you and often end up even more clustered. Abused that in the tutorial fight. However, I also thought that side and back attacking was only present in VII. I'll have to check, but the enemies are too stupid to do it if it's a feature, unlike in Hyperdevotion. Wouldn't be the first time the game hasn't explained a mechanic.

SP skills actually have a major advantage. It ties into another critical detail the game does not explain, but it shouldn't take long for any player to notice it themselves. I think they tutorialize it in Re;birth 2.5 Sega Hard Girls but it's even more apparent in that game anyway, vid related.

To that end, as messy as the games are in terms of useless detail you need to experiment and pay attention because not only do certain things utterly break the game, there are quite a few undocumented details in its combat mechanics and while most of the dungeon finds are vendor trash there's actually some particularly godly items to find in a few places. Figuring that sort of thing out on my own was actually half the fun of playing them to me, it's why I'm not just saying what they are outright, and why I do not recommend using FAQs if you can help it.

This was tested against that magic book event after chapter 3, where if I was taking the Tokimeki sister variants from behind it was like an 85% hit rate instead of 50%. Massive difference.

A few. No crashes or similar but there are a few script issues like that second picture having text overflow. More importantly though, I want to seriously discuss distribution. Re;birth 3 including Japanese voices is just a convenience thing when you can trivially install the official DLC for it, and Re;birth 2 has no excuse to be several gigabytes to download when you can generate delta patches that are only a couple of MB. Doesn't mean it isn't huge on the system and admittedly obtaining decrypted files can be a bit of a nuisance, but it's a worthwhile trade-off in my view. Also as much as I despise the dub it should not be bulking up the filesize simply to get rid of it especially with how Vita game patching works. So unless it needs to change other audio files, that's bloat even if distributing verbatim.

If I want examples just about any text box will do. They shorten up stuff for no reason, include whole sentences out of their asses and change things just because. Hell the first game is from where for example the HDD thing comes from, completely out of their ass and unnecessary. Haven't really kept screenshoots, except one, because I gave it as a current example to someone else. Honestly there were worse.

1st pic - she says in Japanese "Sorry, sorry. I meant it as fan service, but I guess it is not good to lie." It is still acts as an example of how they changed something little for no reason and also changed the equivalent of a whole sentence.

And now I reopened the game just to game a few more examples.

2nd pic in Japanese "Occasionally I voluntary at the hospital or do some errands. Only simple things. Exploring a dungeon will be a first for me."

3rd pic in Japanese, literally "To not bother about small things is my justice." Admittedly here you can maybe just change it slightly, but honestly even leaving it like this would be just fine for me. But I guess if they had done it to "my way of life" and changed the order would have been acceptable.

4th pic in Japanese "Our job is to see what monsters there are here and if there is anything suspicious."

5th pic in Japanese, Nep asks if the monster is still "alive", Compa replies it must have been "defeated" by now. And then in the last one Nep says doesn't want to fight it every again, not just se Maybe I am being too picky with these ones, but there is really no reason for the changes and it shows how they are small unnecessary changes almost in very text box.

These are from just a minute or two in the game and I didn't pick on everything, there were other small shit almost all the time.. Nothing so far can even be justified with some "Oh no, the gaijin won't get it" mentality. Just changes for the sake of it. Makes me really hate people. I know I am being picky on places, but when I understand what they say and the subtitles differ it is just very aggravating. It is so pointless what they have done. And of course, many changes can't be considered small at all.

Can't just even turn Japanese subtitles on. Might have done some practise instead of wanting to throw my monitor across the room.

Finished rebirth 1. I got the good ending with everyone happy, and I got nepgear before I faced the final boss. Overall was a fun game, although I would say the combat in at least this game was pretty much the same all throughout. Now, I played with no guides, so I just went on my way, but if there's a way to make this game and Rebirth 2 more fun to play, that'd be appreciated.

I've generally found a lot of the fun in the games to be figuring out important details the game doesn't tell you, and what utterly breaks the game balance. Avoid guides if you can and just be observant about things, and make sure you're using search wave since there's some particularly good items to be found with it. How were you playing mid-to-end game out of curiosity?

On Re;birth 2, if you're feeling down on it skip ahead to Re;birth 3 and see if you prefer that. You don't need to play them in sequence and 3 changes the base mechanics a bit (4 girls with 4 supports, and SP is now used for EXE Drive notably). 2's virtually identical to 1 in gameplay, but it's harder (USE BUFFS RETARD applies even more strongly unless you like grinding) and the story is generally grimmer. I had a hard time commiting to finish it, and when I did it was to the point I wanted to see its worst end.

With all of this discussion involving the translations, I should mention that Tsunako doesn't know how her characters are treated in English as stated on her blog: http://tyamo.wa-syo-ku.com/仕事情報/ax2017 (Look at the 3nd paragraph after the picture with the Neptune plushie) This could extend to other members of the dev team, including Naoko Mizuno, the producer.

SeHa, or any of Compile Heart's other titles for anything that could negatively impact the writing.

Two examples I could give, despite my lack of Japanese, are Uzume's first appearance of her "Cute" side in VII, with Neptune saying "You just transformed into some kind of valley girl from the 90's or something!" despite that the valley girl personality was developed in a Southern California mall in 80s America, while Death end re;Quest is a more recent example with the phrase "it'll soon be a year" being translated as "it was a year already", Shina saying "yikes" at one point and the existence of the term "Cryptozoologist".

I've actually got to pay more attention to optimal attacking since it differs by game and situation. The early rush attacks are garbage and it's particularly suffering in Re;birth 3's early game. Generally speakng I've ignored break attacks because of slot limitations. First, confirm you aren't accidentally biasing the results and always have your test girl attacking straight after a monster does. There's some important details on that front that I specifically made sure to avoid with that video. I urge you to not read this and try to understand how it's working for yourself because again, it feels great to be observant.

- Most importantly, attack direction matters. I knew this was in VII and is tutorialized there, but it apparently applies to other games too and only learned that in this thread. I demo that with Sega Hard Girls >>16148083 but it applies to RB1 and RB2 as well. Notice that IF hits much harder from the back (critical hits are a different damage colour), and Segami somewhat moreso from the side. They also have much better accuracy. RB3 only boosts accuracy on side or back attacks >>16152051 damage is minimal if any. Still enough to be a huge difference for certain fights.

- Combo isn't just for show. It's a multiplier on damage like it is in Gun Gun Pixies or Akiba's Trip 2, and when enemies get a turn it's reset to zero. So for things like breaking damage records I try to lay on a bunch of rush attacks on as many enemies as possible without killing them, THEN use an AoE EXE Drive on the whole lot. This is why you generally want all your girls to pile on rush attacks and guard break before using EXE Drive. It's not purely to build up the bar.

- Also confirm your girl wasn't poisoned or de-buffed in any way, and that the moves you're using are the same element and based off the same stat. Neptune has some INT-based skills despite her being kind of middling in that regard. Unfortunately my test could not directly compare the cost to equip a move because there were very few.

- Finally, rush is even more important in Re;birth 3 since it actually restores SP, and SP is used for SP skills and EXE Drive. Early game it's awful trying to keep SP up and SP restoration items are expensive, and best obtained through Stella's Dungeon. But late game with the SP Charger II/III you build up an insane amount, moreso if you're hitting multiple enemies at a time. This condensing also makes a certain other thing extremely broken that was only somewhat broken in older games, but no spoilers here sorry!

Finally, be aware I primarily play Re;birth 3 and so most of my findings are based on that game. When I was playing Re;birth 1 for the first time completing, mid-game I was using SP recharge and Vert's Sylphet Spear to annihilate enemies. She's extremely good as a lead character in that game in general with her speed.

There is nothing fun about trying to "find out" things that are never even hinted at. The back accuracy thing I noticed, but I wasn't sure if it was just placebo or if it was actually happening. The combo thing is not exactly clear unless you actually sit and do tests, and there's nothing suggesting that it behaves that way. Plus there's seemingly random damage variation (second hit of Mega did 1470, third did 1466, in the same combo obviously) that serves to hide it further.

Of course, I was making sure that there were no debuffs or ailments and that all the moves used physical attack.

Looking back at the very first battle tutorial, it mentions that rush attacks are for hits, though makes no mention or suggestion of it affecting damage. But then there's pic related which implies that rush attacks and possibly the number of hits are just about charging the EXE gauge.

I just get no enjoyment out of trying to figure out the basic mechanics that the game deliberately hides from me, in several layers to further obfuscate them, and then with RNG variance on top of it. At that point it's out of "things you notice just by playing the game normally". Especially when the game keeps throwing tutorials for super basic things at you, giving the impression that it would explain everything important instead of having hidden mechanics.

I don't fully agree. Like I noticed the combo thing because Blanc had some wild damage variations, and it's because other girls usually attack before her. The most important detail that moves have variable execution time is not mentioned but it's immediately apparent unless you're dense. Anyway this is your clue for why hit count matters. Obviously some of it is from the rush moves itself but it matters.

Besides it's not like the games are that hard to begin with. Even if you're a scrub you can level up past problems.

Oh right. So the issue with Vita is that patching is "files in patch/ override ones in app/ and rePatch/ overrides patch/". So to change a file in any way you need to basically duplicate it, and blob data files are massive. The changes actually made by the Re;translation are fairly small so the fact it's a several gigabyte download is stupid. 3 only gets away with it by being about the same size as the Japanese voice DLC.

However it would be possible to do an installer type thing now. There is a CLI tool to decrypt Vita games on PC: psvpfsparser. So you could have it plugged in with USB connection and run a script to decrypt the necessary files to rePatch and then apply Xdelta3 patches to them. However right now the decrypter is all or nothing, and cannot selectively handle one or two files. This might be worth feature requesting for cases like this.

Yuri Lily only develops between girls in the same front/back row and at cerain levels it allows for optional support intrinsics or moves. The moves tend to be middling, but for example, in RB3, Nepgear on decent terms will her partner will enable them to breach the 9999 damage limit on single hits, and some method of doing this is essential with Blanc because otherwise her EXE Drive is worthless. There are other ways to get that intrinsic mind. This also enables certain pair-up moves. The upgrade to "Stress Release" where Neptune joins in for the stomping is particularly fun.

I'll have a look at the EXE Drive stuff later for RB1 and RB3 like I did with the move damage, but I'm pretty positive Rush remains king in all games provided the moves have enough hits. Only a few girls have 8 hit moves though, Noire's strongest maxes at 5. Blanc surprisingly gets her 8-hit very early.

It's a mix of Tomcat and with a little bit of Comics Sans for some of the punctuation and the brackets. (The copy of Tomcat that I found was a demo version that didn't have most of the punctuation) I just grabbed a free font to use that I thought looked good enough, if I were to do the whole thing I'd look for something nicer with matching punctuation.

This was the first time I've ever done this before but it kinda put the idea in my head that maybe if we could get a few anons together we could do our own translations for nep stuff.
