Start with Re;Birth 1 to test the waters, then play Re;Birth 2 and/or Re;Birth 3 (with the Re;Translations), and then V-II.

Translation Statuses are:
HDN, HDN Mk2 and Victory: NISA cancer.
Re;Birth 1 and V-II: Translation is alright, no worries from these ones.
Re;Birth 2: Not obviously bad at the start, but gets much worse as it goes along: in particular Neptune and Ram were screwed hard during localization. However, there is a Re;Translation made on our very own board (see above links).
Re;Birth 3: Better than the original NISA translation in Victory but still quite a lot of cancer. Main game has been retranslated, translators still required to translate DLC content.
All of the spin-offs: Varying translation quality. These range from cancer to mediocre. Recent releases have been somewhat better overall.

A friend and I went to an anime convention in Detroit. A second friend was supposed to meet us there with rooms, but he bailed at the last second. They didn't allow anyone to sleep in the convention area, so we wandered around watching anime panels and camping out in the games room to stay awake/sane. Ended up playing a ton of Melty Blood and Halo ODST.
Best part was the final day, where the outbound bus with two seats left was "too full" and carrying a bunch of niggers inbound. Imagine two 17-18 year old guys wandering the streets of Detroit in the middle of the night and freezing their asses off while carrying bags full of shit, waiting for a family member to drive 158 miles to rescue them while totally delirious with sleep deprivation. Lowee Trio aside, none of those were as much of a spike as Re;Birth 1 Blackheart.
You just have to get good armor and have characters that give lots of hits with their rush attacks. If you have the quick EXE drive plan built, then you can get it to level 4 very quickly and win almost any encounter through attrition – often without having to use items.

Been playing Blanc's game a bit lately. Still not very good at it, and never really been much into that style of game either, but I finally get to play Plutie and she's pretty fun to handle, and I've always liked her general style of attacking in the RPGs. "New graphics engine" and yet there is very little better than VII (and lacking compared to 4GO.) They lumped all the post process together so you can't get rid of the atrocious FXAA without losing all the other post process effects. The result is if you run the game at 4k it looks like someone dumped water on your screen because it is still applying crappy post process AA. If you disable all post process the game looks super dark because they have some extreme bloom effect instead of real lighting.
The graphics also appear to be upscaled to 4k. I failed to see any obvious improvement over the previous iteration especially considering you could use a mod to run the previous game properly in 4k. See below.
The VR portion, on a high clock gtx 1080 card with HTC vive is the most choppy VR experience I've had and guess what? There are literally NO settings for the VR portion. They put subtitles way at the bottom of the viewing area where they can't be seen because HMD are not meant for you to turn your eyes only your head [turns out you can move the position of the subtitles by constantly holding the right controller stick up but it doesn't tell you this anywhere.] You can't move around.
Even relatively near objects are rendered poorly and the overall detail level is low. If you set audio to surround sound, the voice audio for something in front comes out the rear speakers during VR scenes. Seeing the familiar Neptunia game characters in VR is really cool, so it's sad to see something with such potential fall flat. The game just isn't worth buying just for the VR and yet they had to mess up the core game, too.
New combat system: the result is you have to hit a lot of extra buttons just to do normal things like end a character's turn. Instead of saving several combos, you create a new one at the start of each battle and have to edit it part by part to do something different. In the original version, you could just create 3 combo paths and change them only when needed.
On top of that the SP to use special abilities builds up during the fight from zero. Basically it means you don't use abilities because the fights are generally over before you get enough SP to even start using them. Considering that a lot of the fun of Neptunia games are the amusing animated sequences for abilities, this was a particularly dumb 'improvement.'
The game is missing many things that are in Megadimension Neptunia VII including DLC characters.
I have a fairly high tolerance for half-arsed games when they are Neptune series but this just blew past my limit entirely. I have to reluctantly conclude it's a cash grab with the VR as the bait.
EDIT: If you have a 4k screen, VII with the mod is absolutely a better game. Here are a couple comparison screenshots. Open them up large to see. Even the desktop icon for VII is better btw.

Sounds pretty bad but the games have never struck a good balance between all their different mechanics. Regarding SP in particular I've always found it awkward that SP gets restored on exiting a dungeon, and that you can build up EXE Drive on weaker stuff then channel that into a big enemy. Plus the idea chips that let you regenerate SP. This game also has the drill idea chip which makes HDD activation a full restore. Not as broken as in 3 though since EXE Drive is what dominates that game, and it wasn't until 3 that SP was used for it as well.
Then you get to 3 where early game you are always starving for SP because you only have crappy rush attacks, none of the good SP booster items, and the items to restore SP are ruinously expensive (I think you can get them through Stella's Dungeon but that takes time). Then mid-game lets you find the drill idea chip which is insanely cheesy except against certain bosses, and by late game you have SP booster III, and rush attacks that build up a lot of SP per turn. I kind of like the progression but the games are still kind of a mess design-wise.

The irony is that she's technically one of the oldest girls (Nintendo) but the goddesses don't age physically and at least in Re;birth 3 they aren't born as goddesses to begin with. Oh you meant switching to English. Don't do that for the voices though because they really aren't good. If you haven't actually pulled the trigger yet I'll just say that the mainline games are only OK in terms of gameplay. The main appeal is for the video game stuff, light-heartedness, and cute girls. For that reason you may or may not enjoy 2 since it's considerably darker throughout (and there's that one ending where it goes full horrible but you won't encounter that on first playthrough unless you're trying). 3 returns to being silly, perhaps too much and changes some of the game mechanics. Also introduces 2 best girls.
Oh one more thing of advice. The PC version includes 3 DLC characters Plutia, Peashy, and Histoire, and for your first playthrough you should avoid using them because they're pretty OP. Getting them is fine just leave them out of your party. There's similar stuff to watch for in 2 and 3.

I played it on the PS4 and the gameplay overhaul is actually pretty good.
The main problem with the game is that it is too easy. I have yet to face an actual challenge and I am already at the heart dimension part of the game.
The SP gain part is a mixed bag as you gain SP per turn based on your stats intead of any attacks that you do. This means that most characters become able to do bigger and bigger attacks on the first turn as you gain levels. Rom and Ram however have massive SP regen and can blast enemies with magic all day every day, their defence sucks though and are therefore glass cannons.
Items are also cheaper and more powerful, but you can only use a limited amount per battle.
The game has gone back to everyone gaining experience intead of only the frontliners.
Weapons are now a multiplyer to attack power intead of just an addition, that means that weapons are now just as important as leveling.
Party members in the back row gain AP and SP while they wait, which means that switching characters is really good and helpful.

You know, with all the video game love that both NIER and NIER Automata show, it actually bothers me now that the Neptunia games never really tried much in the way of genre shifting. Too bad IF normally pair up with lower-tier devs and will likely never get the chance Yoko Taro got. The best case we've had is 4GO (at least from what I've played) but most of that went to visuals and not just recycling the same assets over and over, and the gameplay kind of sucks as a result.

I have some intent to check the no-DLC speedruns for 1 and 3, though even with that game letting you skip most animations it comes to a few hours. Before freaking out, I did some more research on her blog (yes she has a blog) to get the whole scoop and apparently her parents are not well, so she had to move out of Tokyo to take care of them. However, taking care of her family would preclude a full time Compile Heart job, so now she's a freelancer who happens to do a lot of work for them.
From what I can see, she's still contributing Neptunia artwork to future games, and has in fact been working on the game that some other anons here just did an infodump on. Her Dengeki strip is also going to continue as well. So there's not going to be much of an apparent change to Nep games on the public-facing side of things. I'm pretty sure that they would overall want her around in some capacity forever if they could manage it, she's also friends with the Neptunia dev team and a lot of the VAs for the series; so that's probably why she can essentially telecommute with them in this new arrangement.
As for Tsunako herself, she seems to be having a hard time with not being able to lean on her friends while also helping her family, but she's handling it well enough to post just enough information to give everyone an update on how she's doing and addressing fan concerns, without really going into personal life details.

Well there's another game coming out, an SRPG, but that's still going to be a while before it's out. As far as game spamming, I don't really have a problem with release cooldown. I'd rather have more higher quality releases at a slower tempo than 3-4 lower quality ones in the same period.
And as far as the "western" game, that's also being in part developed by the leafs, CH also is actively working on that as well.
