Start with Re;Birth 1 to test the waters, then play Re;Birth 2 and/or Re;Birth 3 (with the Re;Translations), and then V-II.

Translation Statuses are:
HDN, HDN Mk2 and Victory: NISA cancer.
Re;Birth 1 and V-II: Translation is alright, no worries from these ones.
Re;Birth 2: Not obviously bad at the start, but gets much worse as it goes along: in particular Neptune and Ram were screwed hard during localization. However, there is a Re;Translation made on our very own board (see above links).
Re;Birth 3: Better than the original NISA translation in Victory but still quite a lot of cancer. Main game has been retranslated, translators still required to translate DLC content.
All of the spin-offs: Varying translation quality. These range from cancer to mediocre.

The gameplay itself is too shitty for me to really care. It's practically a glorified VN with grind, attack animations to showcase, and dressup. I'll play fair in VII or maybe Re;Birth 3 since I hear they make improvements to the combat. Re;Birth 2's combat seems like a direct copypaste of 1 and I've already had enough of that.

I pirate only when I feel that something will never come and in something's current state, I can't support it. (or if the devs are shit, but considering that the games in question would likely be shit in that case I have no reason to pirate to begin with) Nier Automata on PC was an example of this with it being on Steam and having Denuvo and other issues up the ass, and I almost bought a PS4 copy that would've been a paperweight since I own no sony consoles because, in my opinion, Taro and Platinum deserved my contribution as a consumer. Ah well.
I'll just wait since the possibility of them bringing it over is still possible. Patience is a virtue and all, and its not a huge priority for me to play it right this instant when my backlog is fuckhuge as it is.

I personally would just like my voice to be heard so that hopefully something changes if I feel I don't like something; I would like to chalk it up to unawareness that a market exists for DRM-free options and shit like that, giving the companies I like the benefit of the doubt, but if its not the case and I think they're only just supporting the cancer of the industry like Valve then they don't get my support. Piracy is a useful tool for putting power back into the hands of consumers and I'm fine with doing it when I want or need to.

Doerr thought it was a good idea to turn her into a meme dispensing machine Other characters are hit just as hard.

Depends on the character and game really. Based on Re;Birth 3 and a lesser extent Action U and Hyperdevotion Noire, Noire is okay, I had no clue Erin Fritzgerald did other games like Skullgirls but she sounds totally different in Re;Birth 1 as well as any other game she's in. And really, that's my main gripe besides the translation, the pool of voice actors is pretty damn small. And some people just do the same voice. If they didn't do weird lines like talking about hotpockets in R;B3, I would have never known about the bad translations since I made the very wrong assumption that niche games now get proper translations 100% of the time because fans will know as soon as the game launches if the translation is bad.

Honestly it's hard to find a fic worth reading and the good ones are rarely finished. This the best I got.
Anything by "Blade of Justice" is good quality and consists of Yuri and in-character Neps. I liked "The Proposal" but it's a long one and I get bored of yuri (Nep x Noire).
There's also a cute Nepgear x Uni one called "How To Confess Properly For Gun Dummies" that's just Uni failing every chapter to confess to Nepgear. A new plot and setting each chapter and it's well written.

Battle-wise it is turn-based, but you can freely move around on your turn (up to a certain distance) to position yourself against your enemies. Each skill and weapon has ranges that you have to work with. Basic combos are made by you and consist of three different classes of attacks.

You can fight with a maximum of four party members. AP (Action Points) build up as time passes, and each character can use AP to activate skills.
