At least it happened in the first chapter so I dropped it immediately. Why do authors still do this? You'd think they'd have stopped by now. The worst is when right at the end of a fic or halfway through they take the gay characters and give them old boyfriends for no fucking reason. And it will be like a 1 note conversation and then it never comes up again. I don't get that shit at all.

Well that was somewhat disappointing; it downloaded ~16k of attachments (not counting duplicates and generic index.html's), but less than half of them actually match up with what was linked from the forum posts. The cringe is real. You'd think people would get less autistic as they get older but some don't and actually get worse. Also I really wish all the authors would take the time to attach an image on fanfiction.net of the actual characters - official art or high quality fanart so that I don't immediately see their avatar and think 'western cancer'. Images were a mistake on fanfiction.net.

Biggest issue for me when looking at fanfic is all the bullshit you can see on people's acct and how they get worse as time goes on. Frozen and western fics in general are like a dead ringer for 'I am currently cancer and have shit taste'. Some people wrote good things prior to Frozen and I know to look past it but I can't help but cringe at how they turned out.

Hey, there used to be a previous fanfiction thread where I asked for some suggestions. Another kind anon provided some suggestions, and then a couple months or so later I said I didn't much like them. The anon asked for a reply and said, "Holy shit, don't take three months to reply." Aaaaaaaaand…it's probably been half a year now and I still haven't replied.

So, to that anon, what I didn't like about the stories was how all the characters sounded like something out of a Heinlein novel. They were either way too mature or "perfect" for their age with no flaws, and also acted incredibly similar and spoke in the same dry, sardonic tones.

Basically, the love interest of the story is in a relationship with the protagonist, but she develops feelings for the other female lead. Shit happens and they end up as a three-way relationship. Yeah that sounds like it could just be frustrating to read for any yuri fan - I wouldn't bother linking it. I ended up skipping over linking this one fic due to a similar thing happening in it despite it ending in ShizNat. Shizuru cucks Reito with Natsuki but can't make up her damn mind and keeps fucking Reito part way through cause of guilt. I hated everything about the fic as a result.

I've been working on stuff for this board (namely typesetting/cleaning) but I'd like to read a fic written exclusively by the board itself. Something with actual plot/mystery/danger and a slowly built up relationship that is the center of every chapter. And a good length.

Kyoko/Oktavia(Sayaka) and Mami/Charlotte in the afterlife with politics, adventure, fantasy. Do think the author goes overboard on OCs but they grow on you and it fits with the settings of Madoka to have all the OCs and aliens. Lots of small sub arcs with their own story that keep things interesting on a chapter to chapter basis. Really nice fantasy world to lose yourself in at 485,000 words in length.

Eh. I prefer FF.net's system since you can just break everything down to basic shit to look for. AO3 just basically gives the user too much garbage and so you are stuck looking at constant crossover tumblr garbage that is poorly written and with too many tags. FF.net limits the user to just basic shit and has a summary for anything else that can't be listed by genre and main characters.

One major problem with ff.net's system is that half the fics aren't tagged properly, or even tagged at all. Whereas on ao3 it's pretty rare for fics to be lacking tags, and you can easily filter out most of the crossover stuff just by excluding m/m from your searches, and the huge mess of superfluous tags don't actually get in the way of more basic searches. One thing I will say, though, is that ff.net's "sort by follows" option is way more likely to give you good fics than the equivalent option on ao3.

Sort by follows and sort by reviews are both really good for finding quality on FF.net yea.

I didn't think to just exclude m/m but that does make sense for removing the bulk of tumblr garbage. One thing I do think is an issue with AO3 is that because of the degree of tumblr it is hard finding longer yuri fics that are good. I find they don't get as many reviews/favs on AO3 and thus tend to suffer early deaths. It seems like most of the good stuff tends to get posted both there and on ff.net.

Was bored and checked Sugoi Story Anego for stuff to read and found this. I read the whole thing but was annoyed by it. Didn't like the way the author treated the Sailors and wanked off everyone from Nanoha's universe. That and didn't like the shit with Nanoha replacing Usagi either. Nanoha of course ends up with Fate.

I don't think I care for the TSAB at all. They are bland and basically ruined the setting by completely taking control and bringing in reinforcements. Would have been nice to see Hotaru transform into Saturn and take them down a peg. But no can't do that. Can only hint that she's stronger than Hayate.

Why aren't there any Kiyohime fics featuring a possessed Shizuru?

A lot of older Western fics don't, and conversely most newer Japanese fics have the exact same problem. That's because the same people write them both.

What even are "yuri themes" to you? Yuri is an aesthetic, and Western fandom fanfic is just as likely to have or lack that aesthetic as Japanese fandom fanfic, since it's all written by Westerners with tumblr accounts anyway (except way more good writers focus on Western fandoms).

The good writers in western fandom suffer from the characters not actually being gay. It helps when trying to write yuri to use characters who are Japanese in origin and actually gay to begin with. There is a big difference in quality between stuff where the characters already have the gay label and stuff where they aren't even at the best level.

The issue is that the best Japanese fandom fanfics will actually stick to that aesthetic even in an AU setting where as the western setting stuff will just be typical lesbian tripe.

I've posted and lurked in enough of these threads to know this is a frequent discussion since at least 2012 - I also know right after Madoka got less popular and the Vocaloid writing died out they basically stopped writing and haven't really written shit since - they don't even post links to new fanfics really and now seem to be more of a /co/ & /tv/ thread than a /u/ thread. I said 'In this thread' you can't seem to understand that barely anyone even posts in the fanfiction threads on this board. One person posting content when no one else even cares for it means that yes this thread does revolve around my activities to an extent. That's the nature of a tiny board.

If the IP's didn't change every once in a while - a single delete every post in this thread by IP would drastically reduce the post count in this thread if it were used on just me alone. Frankly this thread is more of a fanfic dump for me to post stuff I found good than it is anything else. You could post content you yourself like or have written but I doubt that will happen. That disgusting feeling when all of a sudden the girls all start talking about kissing boys whilst drunk including the main couple who are supposed to be gay for one another. And this is right after two terrible time skips that completely changed the tone of the fic and ruined all the prior buildup, angst, and romance.

Looks similar to the world of 1984.

Little Witch Academy has a very active community that has written a lot of fics in the short time since the anime ended - seeing lots of different yuri fics and pairings when I search there. Citrus has a really active writing community but smaller than LWA. Dragon Maid doesn't have much as much but is getting longer yuri fics which is a good sign. Izetta is about the same. Hibikek of course has a fuck ton - wondering if I should at least sample those. I've seen a few Princess Principal fics and Houseki were starting to get writers and long fics.

No Wixoss tho. Really odd. There are multiple yuri fics there just waiting to be written. Yuuki Yuuna is like Wixoss in that it desperately needs more writers. I'm wondering if Wixoss and Yuuki Yuuna are just too intelligent for fan-fiction. That was a bit of a thing with Marimite but that still got a good amount. Keijo sadly was a bunch of male self insert and futa fics.
