The clone wars Y-Wing was a different, earlier ship (though the Clone Wars one probably did show up in rebel hands). Y-Wings were so common during the GSW because they were commonly sold to planetary security forces. There they either had sympathizers leave them unguarded to be "stolen" by Rebel agents or were outright brought along by defectors from them. These defectors and sympathizers were common because the Empire tried to absorb many planetary security organizations into the military and people who signed up to defend their home generally didn't want to die claiming some outer-rim bog for the Empire. This is the same reason the alliance has that helmet and vest uniform plus their "standard" small arms, as those were common PSF equipment. Also Koensayr needed buyers badly enough they simply didn't give a fuck about verifying documents so any rebel cell with money could buy them.

Y-Wing seems actually pretty well suited for the official role of planetary security. The vulnerability to fighters isn't much a problem against pirates who aren't really scrambling fighters (the primary role of a fighter is defeating fighters and bombers.) and, if they are, will be using massively dated ones (At best they'd be using Z-95s, but more likely cloakshapes, daggers and uglies). Pirates primarily use mid-size vessels in SW, (cruisers, frigates and corvettes, plus some light freighters), which a bomber does well against. The disabling utility of ion cannons is obvious in a security agency. Hyperdrive extends range to a system over a planet and the two-seating makes it capable of ferrying lower level officials.

So you could theoretically change any past event you want as long as doing so wouldn't retroactively prevent you from being able to make that change. This of course ignores the idea that any change you make will result in you not needing to change anything, meaning nothing ever gets changed. There is a way out of that though, which is if things could theoretically have gone differently without future intervention. I will admit that dumbing shit down and amping the potty humor is a plausible outcome of designing a movie "for kids" by committee. But it's certainly not exclusive to content marketed towards children. Look at Legend of Whorra, for instance. It's supposed to be the "mature" sequel to Avatar. But it's got more fart jokes, the characters are hideously Flanderized and undeveloped, and the writing direction manages to be simultaneously bland and schizophrenic. Avatar, despite being the series marketed to adolescents, is miles ahead of its successor in characterization, writing quality, and pretty much every respect besides some of the finer points of the technical side.

Getting back to Star Wars, I'll have to agree with the other guy here, especially with regards to TLJ. Purple-haired lesbian admirals, Rey force-sexting a shirtless Goth Vader, Rose's "if you fight your enemies they win", and cringy meme lines like

while i'm on the subject of pablo and twitter, i've been meaning to shitpost him again about the novelization for TLJ, since he said back when TFA came out that the novels couldn't be considered canon, as they used multiple drafts of the film and had scenes that were either not filmed, filmed but not completed (assembly cut type shit, think anakin fighting jedi in the temple during order 66, there are dailies of it but no footage), or ended up deleted scenes. i need to shitpost him about this because TLJ's novel was amped up as having more material to flesh out the story, but under the current ruleset that would mean fuck all, as none of this material existed prior to the film's release, even with rian johnson's supposed 4 hour assembly cut.

I think ComicArtistPro Secrets may have sold out. In his last two videos he actually defends Disney on some things and even encourages people to not boycott Solo, that they should still go see it and pay for their tickets. He's also taken back some things, like claiming that Holdo and Rose aren't bad or poisonous, just irritating and that Disney really hasn't done anything truly unforgivable while completely ignoring their awful video games, toys and comics, and their treatment of the EU (and overall franchise) and its content. He even talks about wanting to be invited to red carpet premieres like his fellow youtube comic bloggers who got to see Solo because they kissed ass.

I'd prefer MCU-style silliness over what Lucasfilm's doing at this point. IW sounds alright, and being made by the Russos guarantees that it'll be memorable at least (Civil War had contrived plot silliness, but otherwise was good, and Winter Soldier was spectacular). So yeah, seeing that happen to Star Wars would be a marked improvement at this point.

They honestly don't care if the movie itself is good. To them, a good film is a film you can sit around and text message with your buddies while you talk about shit you did while just barely watching the film. Every movie I've seen for the last 5 years has no one actually paying attention to it except the kids. Hell, when I went to see Avengers, everyone in the theater was either talking or texting, the only ones actually paying attention were the kids who started screaming and bawling the minute heroes started dying.
