i watched the holiday special and noticed that the Imperial officer uniforms are completley different from the movie counterparts

notice the line going through the middle, the normal uniforms have this "line" on the side

plus the rank badges look way cheaper

why was this the case?

why were new costumes made for a TV special and why didnt they just reuse the old uniforms?

its even stranger because everything else in the special is reused (alien costumes including greedo, wolfman and more, stormtroopers, weapons)

also noticed that the collars are way taller (especially on the red screen guy)

funny part is, ONE normal looking officer appears in the special but thats because its unused footage from the original movie

Strange. Maybe its because that's the uniform of officers station in specific legions within the Outer Rim? That's just my guess. Or maybe they just wanted to make new uniforms for the special.

i wager it's one of a few things:

1. since george didn't directly work on the special, his people weren't involved and thus they basically had to copy shit from the film and didn't necessarily have access to everything.

2. they might not have been allowed to have a 100% remake of costumes. i know it sounds stupid but little changes like this happen all the time because of copyright shit.

3. they didn't give a fuck and just hired whoever to make sure they had the ability to whip up some generic imperial-looking costumes. after all, this was the days before vhs cassettes really blew up so fans couldn't re-watch the film over and over just yet and get autistic over details like we do now.

I don't know, doesn't seem like a genuine fuck up I mean it was an official thing after all, even had james earl jones and speaking of that does anyone have a decent quality version of vader's dialogue in this? The only thing I can find sounds like it was recorded on a damn phonautograph

And now that detail is going to bother more tgan anything else in that film did.

>that's the uniform of officers station in specific legions within the Outer Rim? That's just my guess

would make sense lorewise

the planet they're on seems to be a bit of a unregulated shithole anyway

>a imperial officer that is off duty waltz into the merchant characters store and just steals shit

>at the end, the red screen guy makes a planet wide broadcast asking for one trooper to turn on his comlink (the trooper was killed by han) so the merchant calls the officer and tells him that the trooper burglarized the wookies and ran into the woods, the officer belives it and sighs, almost like this happens often.

Their badges also seem notably unique and not something that have been used commonly before as in they're a mixture of red and yellow while most badges are red and blue or red, blue and yellow, but not red and yellow only. Even references I have don't mention what red and yellow mean. Unless this is again a different ranking and uniform style that varies from legion to legion. I mean the Empire was huge and likely had numerous chapters, a notable one of which was from some old magazine in the 80s which were stationed in the middle of nowhere and were led by a reptilian officer since his kind were native to the region and thus were more familiar with its workings.

Only the Lumpy one seemed genuinely bad (along with the wookiees in the final scene) but that can just be blamed on the budget. I would say Itchy's mouth was badly designed but its kinda grown on me over the years.

>Even references I have don't mention what red and yellow mean.

Curtis Saxon theorized that yellow squares represented rank in a specific regional force (like Tarkin's officers in ANH) versus personnel serving with fleets/task forces that had no fixed area of responsibility (like Vader's "Death Squadron").
