Don't get me wrong, Disney has already fucked up royally in terms of profits with SW, so even a slight under-performance would be a huge hit to their ego and the trust of their investors. Marvel is their main money make anyway. But the real reason it has to be a big flop is not to fuck over Disney, but to send a message. If it does well enough or simply underperforms, shills and Disney employees will still mark it as a success and learn nothing, going home happy with a "lol it looks like I lost but I actually won" mindset. A big flop would be a big enough quake to shock them out of their little bubble of optimism and make idiots and those in power realize that SW ain't worth shit to them. At which point they'll lock it away in the Disney vault indefinitely which will keep it safe from further harm, they do a complete reform from the ground up within Lucasfilm or they sell the rights off to whoever is crazy enough to buy it, but that's only if its a really huge flop.

What's more, since it's the last in a trilogy people who watched TFA and TLJ will feel obligated to see it because of sunk time and cost.
