Hamill seems to get panic attacks during the interviews about TLJ. That conversation, to me, makes it clear that Hammil's is invested in this franchise as more than just an actor with adoring fans.

True. I do think that there's a bigger link between him and Luke than just a random role and what happened with Disney really fucked him up.
He said that he had crafted a story of what his character has been doing since RotJ. When Lucas announced that he was working on a possible new trilogy, Hamill was the first to show up even though he had no idea of what it would be about. Then Disney bought LucasFilm, he got to meet JJ and told him about his idea for a backstory then JJ told him to fuck off. He couldn't leave the project anymore, TLJ happened with an even more batshit story that forever ruined his character.
