I've been thinking about ways to spice up things on the board with the possibility of holding some kind of event on a weekly or monthly basis depending on its appeal. I've mostly just come up with two.

First idea is basically just holding a Hunger Games thread but with a Star Wars theme and outcomes. For example "Triclops gets his arms ripped off by a rogue wookiee assassin".

Second idea is hosting Podracing events. There are several ways this could work.

1: Another fucking hunger games thread but with podracing outcomes.

2: A thread where we all watch a video of a replay I've recorded of either the PS1 or PS2 podracing games. We all take bets/guesses on which NPC is gonna win before the video is posted. Winner gets to gloat or something.

3: Same as 2 except you all vote on which character I play as then watch me fail miserably or take home the gold.

I'm leaning towards the second idea (and its number 2 variant) at the moment, but I'll gladly take some suggestions. Personally I think 2 and the first idea would work way better if I could offer some sort of prize to the winner/one who picks the winning racer, but there's not really much I can do in terms of options or customization for an anon, and the fact that we're all anons means I can't plaster your name, make your name gold or some shit on the board somewhere. Although I guess I could make a custom flag for the winner based on whatever he chooses.

Are there any podracing vidya we could play online, rather than replays of offline plays? And while I'm sure podraces are tempting I know you Hutts have that market cornered, let's not disregard the wealth of vidya available with a /sw/ theme. TOR for all its flaws has some enjoyable bits from what I'm told, and it's free to boot. I'm not sure if the Empire at War mods have multiplayer functionality, but if they do a monthly tournament is an option. And of course there's the old favorite of BFII, the multiplayer servers are alive and well and very usable.

There is the obvious option of Episode 1 Racer, though I believe you'd have to use some external programs to play it over the internet instead of LAN. or if you really want to, the console versions or Racer Revenge in an emulator

We could also do any of the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games that have multiplayer as well as Republic Commando.

Number 2 certainly sounds amusing although the lack of real stakes is a bit of an issue but it could be fun to do it just to do it.

There's plenty of good multiplayer Star Wars games and even better they're dirt cheap and can run of toasters so we've got our pick of the litter. Most of the good one's like Movie Battles II and Battlefront II have already been mentioned and I can't imagine there's a lot of troopers who don't have those games by now.

I don't know if you've played it or not, but basically it takes the movie logic of the action scenes from 1-6 and translates that into an addictive, counter-strike-esque class based gameplay dynamic that goes much deeper than the old battlefront games when it comes to movie authenticity and simulating star wars combat. The lightsaber combat is the most advanced we'll ever see in a video game and it actually looks like real, cinematic lightsaber combat when you watch it as a spectator (or at least as cinematic as you can get on the quake 3 engine). Not only that, you actually gotta know how to use a lightsaber, otherwise you'll be gunned down in two seconds. You gotta pay attention and look at the opponents footwork when dueling, there are a lot of details like this. You gotta watch how much fuel you have left in your jetpack, because that same fuel is also used by your flamethrower. You gotta think twice before throwing that thermal detonator around the corner because an enemy jedi might force push it back at you and nuke your entire team. Every class plays very differently, you have Mandalorians, Bounty Hunters, Super Battle Droids, Droidekas, ARC Troopers, Clone Troopers, regular soldiers (i.e stormtroopers, B1s), Elite troopers, Wookies, Jedi, Sith etc you have movie characters and EU characters. There's the regular mode which allows you to play as anyone in any era, then there's the full-authentic mode that takes scenarios from the movies and the EU and it only let's you play as the the lore authentic classes for these specific scenarios. You have movie scenarios like order 66, securing the throne room in theed palace or even 2v1s like two people fighting Revan or Nihilus. Some of the scenarios are really creative, like the ending boss fight of kotor 2, except instead of the exile fighting Traya alone, the exile is actually fighting traya + all her individual floating lightsabers (each of them controlled by invisible player characters). It gets really fucking funny. The game also has a nice meme-quality to it because of all the low bitrate movie taunts each character has which are often spammed by players as battle cries & shitposting. The maps are great too. The single most obvious weakness of mb2 is the vehicle combat. They don't handle that well.

if star wars galaxies was the definitive "roleplaying" simulation, movie battles II is the the definitive, movie-authentic infantry combat simulation.

A moviebattles 2 server would be awesome. I'd play the shit out of that, not sure about password protection, I mean the community is quite small as it stands.

Surely every /SW/ regular has at least heard of the mod? It's a mod of jedi academy, you can use the steam or GOG version, you can use a pirated copy, and it's where the online community for the game is.

I'll provide a download link here for the mod.

www.moviebattles.org

I wouldn't mind hosting a server once a week for /SW/ to play on, unless some nonNEET can afford to rent a server. The game is a good way to chat as well being a very social game. Reply to this post if you are interested.

Server I'd host would be UK based and my internet is 12mb/s up and 200mb/s down I'd have a spare computer plugged in hardwired to router so it won't be the best server in the world but it would work I hope.

MovieBattles 2 is great, I play on it every day. Every major planets and places are represented in the mod from Naboo to Mustafar to Deathstar and even Endor. The community is rather small, but thats ok, it makes bans for bullshit reasons rare and prevents the formation of cirklejerk cliques. Also, depending on which server you play on, you can pretty much call your enemies whatever you want. Best is mb2_smuggler with 25-30 players. Grenade fest ensues :D

You could always take a page out of /v/'s book and have a gamenight, focusing purely on Star Wars titles. Maybe rotate the weekly events. One for podracing, one for gaming, then one for storytiming a comic. It would be nice to read some of the older comics with an audience, like The Star Wars to see how people react to ANH's rough draft in visual form.

It seems like they're more normies starting to become cynical of Disney rather than full-on hatred of the mouse. Only glanced at the ST threads on the main page, but that seems to be the gist there as well. I'd say they're open to redpilling on the Disney Question, especially if exposed to good EU content.

I also can't be arsed to hop around the whole board and analyze what they think, so I just left a reply on the first thread asking what they thought of the Disney films.
