>Say they're going to slow down on Star Wars.

>100% cancel Boba Fett movie.

>Instead, make a spin-off to their own prequel movie so they have something to put on their streaming service since they won't be getting the OT back until 2024.

Who the hell thought that this was a good idea? I know that Rogue One is usually considered the better of the Disney Star Wars movie but nobody ever asked for this. We wanted better stories for beloved characters that respected them and were good movies and/or new stuff to expand on the universe. It looks like Disney is so desperate that they going full ouroboros and feeding on themselves.

I have to wonder what exactly they're thinking over at Lucasfilm. Who wants a show about a literal nobody? Why make a mandalorian show that has nothing to do with Boba Fett and whose only purpose is to serve as a tie-in to the disney trilogy? Also, both shows are supposedly gonna be exclusive to Disney's new streaming service. What are the chances people will actually be dumb enough to buy into that shit? Does Disney think they can be the next Netflix?

Honestly, I do understand their thinking, but to understand their thinking you have to simply not understand Star Wars. If you work for Lucas Film, and you're some dumb bitch who was never really into Star Wars, maybe saw the movies once as a kid, then you greenlight the Solo movie. Han Solo is popular, right? I mean, Harrison Ford was really dreamy back then, I'd definitely flick my bean to a Solo movie.

So then Solo flops. What does your dumb broad brain then do? It assumes that no one wants movies about pre-established characters. "If people didn't want to watch a Han Solo movie, they definitely wouldn't want to watch a Boba Fett movie, I mean, what does Boba even look like, is he hot? I doubt it." Fett canceled.

They then go, "Hmmm, who are some new characters I shlick to? Definitely not that gorilla Finn, and Kylo and Poe are already in the sequels, oh, I know, Mexican Han Solo! He was hot!" And that's how you get a Cassian Andor series. Also, the Mandalorian show is the same thing, they were going to make a Fett movie, but then Solo flops, so they repurpose all the sets and concept art for not-Boba Fett.

Star Wars is currently in the hands of people who never were Star Wars fans. They don't understand the franchise, that's why they cut the Expanded Universe immediately, it was beyond their comprehension.

That's become horribly clear after they released their "recruitment" video. Only person in it that was a veteran and actual fan was a 3D artist.

Anons… am I dumb for just having realized this? This never even crossed my mind, but it explains so much. I thought the Fett movie wasn't even in production yet, but it actually does feel like the contrary. Could this Cando show also be them recycling sets and ideas from another cancelled movie? Like the Obi-Wan film or some other unannounced projects? If this is true, Lucasfilm might be more desperate than we thought.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Cando show picks up plot threads from the Solo movie that they were planning to explore in the Solo trilogy, lol. The bullshit with Darth Maul and the Crimson Dawn or whatever.

Generic Spic protag doesn't have any established lore. They can make him a Katarn knockoff without the comparison to the much better EU version.

tl;dr version: it means they are trying to sell a product that they think customers should want based on ideology as opposed to selling what customers do want based on sales and market research.

long version: the current Lucasfilm policy of focusing on diverse and inclusive protagonists is ideologically motivated. The story group, who uphold this policy, believe it is a moral imperative to make amends for the dominance of white males in the original six Star Wars films. Despite a lack of customer enthusiasm for these new characters Lucasfilm will continue pushing them until as they believe customers will get used to them or as others believe they will eventually run out of customers.

I actually would rather they stepped away from established characters (and imagery). Get back to telling stories, rather than just endlessly showing us things we recognise to illicit a Pavlovian response.

Not that I expect much out of Disney in that regard.
