The YT-1300 being a common, 72 year old, ship line really meshes well with Luke's first impression of the Falcon being a "piece of junk". Imagine someone bragging about their sweet car and discovering it's a Toyota Corolla older than the two of you combined.
Twi'leks being slaves and criminals does pair nicely with them being from a world where the only resources of value are people and drugs.

Ryloth was perfect in that sense. A shame fucking Clone Wars tried to retcon it and make it an ordinary desert world.

It is a "piece of shit", but a fantastic custom piece of shit in peak working condition. Its even confirmed in the fucking OT. And even Lando sees it as looking like shit when they arrive in Bespin.

Just remembered another one. I don't know where it came from, but the imps paying for their huge new army by (among other things) raising tarrifs really high does serve as a nice explanation for why "smugglers" are everywhere and can be something other than spice/slave transporters (heinous and uterrly lacking in sympathy) or alliance supply runners (by definition already allies to the rebellion). It also makes the Empire more oppressive without making them cartoonishly evil.

i'll have to find it again, but in one of the yidsney books i believe it was that i found that the phrase was retconned into being appreciative, not insulting.

Was there anything in the movies to actually suggest that Han wasn't just lying about the Falcon's speed? I always got the feeling he was just exaggerating the whole Kessel Run thing to potential customers.

>Was there anything in the movies to actually suggest that Han wasn't just lying about the Falcon's speed?
That's the great question among EU fags these days. Some maintain that he was an amateur bullshitting, and the fact that he used parsecs as a measure of distance indicates that he doesn't know what he's talking about, while others say that he does know what he's talking about, and he managed to do it in less than 12 parsecs because he managed to follow a shorter, more dangerous route that no one else had been able to complete up to that point. The latter is the Legends canon and was confirmed by Lucas IIRC.
As for evidence in the movies: In ANH and RotJ, the Falcon got into dogfights with TIE fighters and did relatively well. Considering that TIEs were designed from the ground up for speed and maneuverability, we can assume that the Falcon is reasonably fast, certainly more than you'd expect from a cargo vessel. Lando's "what have you done to my ship" in ESB suggests it was special enough that he still cared about it even after it passed into Han's hands, but that could be nostalgic value rather than performance so it could go either way.

oh, my bad, the original design for the falcon (which later became the tantive iv) was based on a hot rod. the falcon was given a flying saucer for a template and then massively modified.
>>21517
han's boasting about the speed was false, but the ship did have its merits, as the films proved.

Essential Guide to Warfare gives a good explanation for the Tantive IV guards being the standard model for rebel troops without making the Tantive IV's claim of being a diplomatic vessel completely transparent: It's just a common uniform style and equipment among planetary security forces. People from various PSFs both defected to the rebels in large numbers and arranged for equipment to be stolen by the rebels if they didn't defect openly.
