Is there any point in liking Star Wars anymore? Call me a cynical shitlord, but I'm growing more and more disillusioned every day. We all know everything now is run by Disney and we know how bad that is, but even looking backward to the Expanded Universe I'm starting to see many of the "old guard" nowadays propagating pro-Disney support, shilling for Disney on social media, and pushing the same leftist oral diarrhea on the fans and the franchise, and lemme say it, I don't care what someone's politics are, but when they're shoved in my face? Nah man.

I just don't feel any enjoyment anymore. The future of Star Wars is a void, and looking back a lot of what used to be good isn't good now. Is there any good reason to not just give up and stop caring?

I don't think I'll ever be a hardcore fan again. Star Wars is just something I'll think of when I get the urge to play an old EU video game or see a scan from a good comic. It'll just be something for which I feel the occasional nice vibe of nostalgia like when somebody edits a Spongebob or Simpson's clip into a joke. I used to get some of that old feeling by regularly posting and lurking here but it's just not doing the trick anymore.

There's kinda no point in liking anything by that logic honestly since its just not Star Wars. Everything's gonna fall eventually. Even Lord of the Rings is next. http://archive.is/FYHyp

Same is true for video games. Everything is going to shit. Best thing we can do for now is just look to the past, enjoy the fan content/mods/etc for the old stuff because otherwise we'll have nothing left to enjoy. Thinking this bullshit is only happening to SW is shortsighted. Everything is going to shit, but we shouldn't abandon the old stuff just because a bunch of obnoxious twats are going out of their way to rape the future of the things we held dear. At the very least let us not discard the past. Let's just hope the media trainwreck that's tainting everything crashes horribly soon or someday…

Speaking of Lord of the Rings, just remember what Tolkien taught us, anons

Dragons may be horrifying, they may be overwhelming, and they may seem to win, but they will eventually be beaten, and the dawn will be brighter than before.

Oh hello, Nihilist-Kun or should I say Nihilus-Kun now?. How did you find your way over from /tg/?

The EU only dies if you let it die. I've still got my novels, Steam still has the old games, and places like this still exist. The communities may be smaller, and there might not be new novels, but the collection we were left is vast and rich. All good things come to an end sooner or later; if it wasn't Disney it would have been something else. And Star Wars at least had a longer run than most before going to shit; it could have been like Dune and gotten weird after book 3.

Tolkien was off base there because dragons can be good and noble, which SJWs aren't capable of. Also, unlike SJWs, dragons have faced actual prejudice in many settings where they appear, whereas SJWs are invariably from the richest families and have never had to endure any sort of struggle in their entire lives.

…For crafting a fantastic world, that is to say one meant to be different from our own? If you have a personal grudge against happy-go-lucky, everything is happy and perfect settings that's all well and good, but you can't even describe Middle Earth as that. The ending was happy, albeit with bittersweet undertones, but the protagonists weren't handed victory, they had to fight tooth and nail and risk just about everything in order to defeat their adversary. And, to reiterate, that came at great cost, and didn't stop some 'unjust' things from happening–the Elves having to return to Valinor, because the Three Rings no longer preserved their civilization, the general withdrawal of magic from the world, and other things I'm sure I'm forgetting. Middle-Earth is, at best, not a noblebright world but a nobledark one: It's not by default a "just" or happy place, but through great strength and effort a few heroic men can change it for the better.

>it could have been like Dune and gotten weird after book 3.

I kinda disagree, while Dune went off in strange directions, I don't think the later books are bad or even inferior. it was supposed to be 7 books, with a Maud'Dib trilogy, a chapterhouse/whatever the fuck trilogy, and God Emperor as the centerpiece. GEoD is where Frank Herbert fleshes out his larger ideas, and it's quite good if you look at it that way. the later trilogy is strange, but it's also an unfinished product – we don't know how it was going to be resolved, and the hackjobs refuse to release the Dune 7 notes. speaking of which, Dune got ruined when Brian & Kevin got their grubby hands on it. nuDune really is analogous to nuWars. it's strangely fitting that both franchises met the same fate, given the obvious influence of Dune on SW.

Star Wars has to fall before it can rise up again. Like what happened to Batman after Batman and Robin. Even that might not help and it will end up where Star Trek is now - with shrinking and aging fanbase, and living off of old merchandise.

I wanted to like GEoD, I really did. Leto II and his grand plan were very appealing to me. It's been a little while so I'm a little hazy on what exactly turned me off of it (got partway through and stopped)–if I recall, I think it was that, while I thought he was "right," Leto as he was written didn't try very hard to defend his point of view. I also read that from Book 5 onward spice could be synthesized, which irked me because spice being hard-limited to Arrakis and only Arrakis was a central point to the first half of the series. Oh yeah, and it triggered my autism just a little bit that Leto's plan to make humanity less dependent on shield warfare was to enact a High Capacity Fully Semi-Automatic Assault Shield Ban and call it a day. Maybe I'll give the rest of the series another shot.

 No.17917

>>17908

GEoD is subtle. it's all about the Golden Path aka the survival of humanity, and Leto II doing what's necessary to ensure this. later in the book, Siona gets a vision of what would happen had Leto II not taken the reins, and it wasn't pleasant. aside from keeping us alive, Leto II wants to set a bad example by taking despotism to the extreme, in order to build up social forces to push us to the opposite extreme aka The Scattering. That + his breeding of prescience-cloaking genes, and the development of prescience-cloaking technology, would ensure that the human race could never be consolidated under one rule again. like I said, this can be kinda confusing unless you read all the way through and analyze it. the book as a whole is very philosophical, unlike the space opera feel of the first.

as for the second, incomplete trilogy, it takes place thousands of years later. yes, spice as a scarce and vital resource was very significant to the first trilogy, but it's also understandable that game-changers would come along over millennia of time, especially when it became apparent to all factions that they could be conquered by anyone who monopolized the Spice.

Duinuogwuin (Star Dragons) were dragon-like and have most of the common traits of stereotypical dragons (although they're more similar to dragons in Elder Scrolls in terms of how they live and physically they look unique overall) and its said that the more familiar dragon-esque species in the galaxy were possibly descended from them, like Krayt Dragons (Tatooine), Condor Dragons (Endor), Arkanian Dragon (Arkania), etc since they were capable of surviving in the vacuum, much like Givin and the Exogorth from ESB.

I'm a big /tg/ guy and the table top SW games are great. FFG is a little gimicky with their card and miniature wargames but the table top rpg is gold. And I'm serious on that. It is pretty much EU and Legacy content written by authentic SW enthusiasts. It is the safe harbor for the franchise right now.

I honestly never recall seeing that "Tygra gets high" episode when I was a kid, so I'm getting quite a lot of nice surprises. I'm honestly surprised such an upbeat company like Rankin Bass could come up with such crazy yet in-depth lore for a setting. Then again, I re-watched Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July a couple of months back and that shit has some really in-depth world building that even tries to tie together most of the previous RB Christmas specials.

The outer rim and the unknown regions are unironically the best place to be.
