Given the massive contradictions between the CGI Clone Wars movie and television show with the the rest of pre-disney Star Wars canon, is there any hope of reconciling that? What would you do if you ended up with the rights to the franchise, and had to resolve those differences between these parts of the EU without axing TCW? all Disney canon excluded obviously

Maybe you could rewrite the TCW episodes that conflict with EU sources and release them as novels covering the major story arcs of the show?
I'd retcon the the pacifist Mandalorians as being some unwanted faction created and propped up by the Republic and used to control the planet- but then you'd have to explain why they weren't mentioned any other sources. That, or it's some other planet that decided to take the same name for idiotic reasons.
I've got no idea how to deal with the nightsister stuff though.

rattataki and dathomiri are easy and don't break anything. Just look into it and figure it out. Don't play dumb. The siniteen thing is stupid but it doesn't destroy anything. Ventress and Maul remain unscathed even with their tcw origin retcons.
>mandalorians
ez pz. There are two capitals on mandalore. One in the desert (sundari) aka the the clone wars peace faction.. and the other one is Keldabe aka the repcom version (located somewhere else on the planet ).
It's true though, TCW doesn't fit 100% without heavy suspension of disbelief. It what it is, it's Filonis fault and at this point not worth worrying about too much tbh. At one point or another, you will have to temporarily turn your brain off and accept that things don't completely line up. My honest opinions though: I like how packed the clone wars timeline is. You have TWO entire multimedia projects dedicated for one event.
If you demand absolutely flawless airtight continuity, you can just pretend the entire series is an in-universe holodrama.

You have to wonder why the other Mandalorians don't get pissed off at the pacifists sullting their culture and declare war long ago though. It's kind of suspicious that a pacifist faction could survive long on a planet full of violent warrors you know. You might want to watch at least some of the video in the OP, the show heavily contradicts 90% of the original multimedia project- only one or two of the novels and comics end up being left standing.
It's a shame because TCW was good, and could have been even better had Filoni made any effort to keep with continuity like the rest of the EU writers had to.

Okay I admit, trying to make sense of it all is a pointless excercise. It's not even just about Mandalore, but a whole bunch of stuff as you're well aware. I already skimmed through the video a bit and he seems to bring up all the familiar arguments I've seen on other forums. I don't recommend anyone researching this, you'll just get mad. Just turn your brain off and come up with a superficial timeline of events. You know how I fit my TCW comics between the dark horse Republic comics? I literally just go by whatever armor the clone troopers are wearing (phase 1 or phase 2) or I look at Anakin or Obi-wans hairstyle/hair length. When you're literally trying to fit a round peg into a square hole, it's not worth making sense out of it without giving something up. Being someone that likes both TCW and the clone wars EU, I absolutely cannot let go of any material from either project. Except the brain implant chips, I can easily do without those even if the episodes themselves were fun.

yeah ok some differences, some superficial similarities. If tcw didn't bring up the nightsister stuff so often, you would be able to swap one backstory with the other and it wouldn't make or break the character.

I thought the Mandalorian retcon was done as an indirect way to get Karen Traviss to quit instead of firing her due to rewriting Star Wars. She kept forcing Mandos to the point where she was dismantling everything else for it to work. Traviss always bitched about how the Jedi were Nazis and couldn't watch the original trilogy because of it. They didn't want to fire her because she was the Kennedy of the EU and feared discrimination blowback, so they used a roundabout way to cut her out.

I feel the same way, TCW was a great show, but the continuity errors get on my nerves. I'd say EU stuff should take precedence and and TCW should be rewritten to fix contradiction with it. Publish the true TCW as novels or something.

Yeah, she considers the Jedi ubermensch and thinks they're evil Nazis. It was on her own website a few years ago and it was a glimpse into how warped her viewpoints were about Star Wars. Traviss has a habit of taking over shared fictional universes, trashing factions that have any kind of special powers granted by god or science, then forces her faction of noble savage warriors to be the main attraction. It got to the point where she was sabotaging multiple author series with her mandalorians that the old storygroup had enough and used George canon to effectively erase most of her work with CW 2008. She ragequit midway through an imperial commando novel. One novel writer later joked about how the next novel series would have writers that "didn't like Boba Fett so much".

Not really a fair comparison. For a while, Traviss was almost a mini celebrity in the EU-world and actually had fans that kept begging for her to come back and to finish the series. Meanwhile, no one except verified twitter users would be angry if Kathleen suddenly quit.

I'd say original Mandalorians, as the new ones are just boring pacifists you've seen a million times before. A society of space warriors that's continued since past the death of it's founder species and is constantly a thorn in the side of the galactic powers is something far more interesting.

I wish the we would have gotten a chance to better integrate the pacifist mandos with eu shit. That would have been a fun job for Luceno.

I half-like/half-dislike the originals.
On the one hand I like their armor and I like how fleshed out they are, on the other hand I don't like how people keep trying to make them relevant after Malachor, like in TOR. I very much like the idea that Malachor V was the great turning point in their history that broke their momentum, despite the efforts of Canderous, and made them turn to isolationism.
Everyone also tries to make their own OC Donut Steel Boba Fett armor clones as well

It does make sense for them to be relevant in the prequel era to legacy era however. Given the Jango and other Mandalorians being responsible for training the clone army. Even though they got buttfucked by their civil war, the ARCs going rogue and Boba Fett really kickstarted the Mandalorian culture again.

I don't think the prequel era was all that big for them. While Jango was himself a Mandalorian, and the clones adopted Mandalorian tradition and customs, they also had a very limited legacy due to their accelerated aging and that most of them were forever tied to the Empire, the only thing they really left behind when all was said and done was the destruction of the old Jedi order, and the battle scars from the Clone Wars. I'd argue that Boba Fett's acceptance to become Mandalore later down the line did a lot more for Mandalore than the clones did.
I think my main issue comes from TOR, only after 300 years after Malachor we see the Mandalorians once again assisting the Sith as they did before, even though it contradicts Kreia's prediction that Mandalore was broken. At least for the the foreseeable future for her time.

that's true. my point is that Mandalorian culture is not based on territory or descent. it's a meritocracy and a way of life open to any worthy individual. while I'd expect the majority to have blood/soil ties, there would be a significant minority without.
with that said, given the current climate, I have to emphasize that Mandalorians are not inclusive. you must learn the language, assimilate, and live up to the code. it is not for cosplayers or people who switch identities and genders every 2 weeks.
