There are several non-capeshit counterexamples to this, though. The Deathwish remake is the one that comes to mind for me, bombed with the critics but did incredibly well with audiences and in the box office. Because no matter what the critics say, the fact of the matter is a FUCKING WHITE MALE defending his family is a very compelling and relatable story.
