Judging from Papa Kasdan's presence at the writing, and how Jon's acting out so loudly, I would guess that Lawrence was distant and permissive parent. The kind that says "well, son, you can do whatever you like," but then obliviously arranges things so that he's sheltered in the big house or swanky apartment. No friends, no normality, just a house full of things and a father's ongoing grandeur. Move to the present, and it seems that Lawrence is trying to make up for lost time, but is again permissive even as his son confusedly dips his old work in sewage.
It's possible to pity Jon, to an extent. He never really got to grow up.

It doesn't sound like he has any real convictions toward anything. He lives in some kind of abstract realm and his fake nostalgia is painful to read about. He's clearly a sheltered kike loser with a thoroughly inauthentic and broken worldview and personality. The worst type of person to write Star Wars. He reeks of "reddit".
