‘Washington willing to send its sons to die in absurd war’ – Venezuela’s Maduro in open letter to US
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has slammed Washington’s belligerent rhetoric towards his country in an open letter addressed to the American people.
Maduro published an image of the letter on his official Twitter account, saying it would be delivered to the White House, demanding respect for Venezuela’s “inalienable right to peace.“
In the letter, Maduro denounces US President Donald Trump’s aggressive statements against him – in which he has branded Maduro an illegitimate dictator, as well as hinting at military intervention.
They want to invade and intervene in Venezuela – they say, as they said then – in the name of democracy and freedom. But it's not like that. The story about the usurpation of power in Venezuela is as false as the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
Maduro accuses Trump of “disrupting noble dialogue initiatives,” which were promoted by Uruguay and Mexico and backed by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). They aim for "a peaceful solution and dialogue favorable for Venezuela."
Venezuelans are willing to “continue being business partners” with the US, while politicians in Washington are ready to send their country’s “sons and daughters to die in an absurd war,” Maduro wrote.
The Venezuelan president demanded that the US stop its aggression against Venezuela, including both attempts to “suffocate our economy” and “the serious and dangerous threats of military intervention.” He signed off with the phrase “Long live the people of America!”
The Trump administration has been leading calls for Maduro to be overthrown, recognizing opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country’s “legitimate” leader. It was joined in these calls by a number of European nations. Several other countries – including Russia and Turkey – are backing Maduro as the legitimately elected president, and have denounced Washington’s actions as attempts to foment a coup.

NewsGuard, the establishment-backed “fact checker” that according to one report is approximately twice as likely to rate a conservative news site as “untrustworthy” compared to a non-conservative news site, urged caution to critics of the New York Times’ recent decision to alter a headline about Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring admitting to wearing blackface without notifying readers.
NewsGuard is an internet browser extension that displays green “trustworthy” or red “untrustworthy” labels next to links to news sites as its users browse the web. Because it offers a blanket rating to news websites rather than a story-by-story rating, this results in green “trustworthy” ticks sitting next to fake news stories from green-rated publications, which risks presenting users with the perception that false or inaccurate stories from green-rated publications (which include BuzzFeed, Rolling Stone, CNN and the New York Times) can be trusted.
The same is true of the recent New York Times story, where editors changed the phrasing of a headline about Herring admitting wearing blackface from “dark makeup” to “blackface” following criticism of the original headline on social media. The New York Times did not update its article to notify readers of the change or explain why the initial headline was deemed to be inaccurate.

Slowly and predictably, Normies will begin waking up. Many of the people we were told to trust (presidents, politicians, heads of F_I, D_J, C_A, religious leaders, popes, et al) were the very ones lying, stealing and murdering for personal gain and power.
When I woke up to the sick realities of 9/11, I was a mess for several months. All my values and beliefs were stripped from me; nothing was left to replace them. I was in a LOT of pain.
Now, stop and consider that 9/11 truths are but one small piece in a gigantic jigsaw puzzle, imagine what sleep-walking Normies are going to experience when they wake up.

New attack on Karl Marx – grave in London ‘damaged beyond repair’ in hammer attack
A memorial to the Father of Communism – Karl Marx – in London has been attacked with a hammer and ‘will never be the same again’, a charity has said.
The marble plaque at Highgate cemetery which carries Marx’s name, along with his wife and grandson, had been chipped by a blunt instrument likely to have been a hammer.
The Friends of Highgate Cemetery Trust, who run the cemetery in north London, said the monument was hit over in what looked like ‘a deliberate attack on the memory of Karl Marx himself’.
Ian Dungavell, the trust’s chief executive, said: “His name has been singled out, although the person wasn’t particularly coordinated.”
The ‘deliberate and sustained attack‘ on the Grade I-listed monument, which puts it on a par with the most important buildings in the country, was “very upsetting”, he said. “It will never be the same again, and will bear those battle scars for the future.”
The monument is owned by the Marx Grave Trust, which is represented by the Marx Memorial Library in Clerkenwell, which will make any decisions about future repairs, Mr Dungavell said.
But he added that the monument’s Grade I-listing means ‘you don’t rush in to do these things quickly’.
‘We will be seeking specialist advice.’
A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of criminal damage to a memorial in Highgate Cemetery, N6. No arrests have been made. Initial inquiries have been completed and at this stage the investigation has been closed. If any further information comes to light, this will be investigated accordingly.”

A Florida state Senator introduced a bill that would ban abortions after an unborn baby’s heartbeat is detected.
The bill was filed by State Sen. Dennis Baxley, a Republican, on Feb. 6. Brett Kavanaugh Just Declared War on Roe v. Wade
On Thursday night, the Supreme Court blocked a stringent Louisiana abortion law by a 5–4 vote, with Chief Justice John Roberts joining the liberals to keep the measure on hold. Roberts’ vote is surprising, but not a total shock: The Louisiana statute is a direct violation of the Supreme Court’s 2016 ruling in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, and until the court overturns that decision, the Louisiana law cannot take effect. To Roberts, this precedent matters. To Justice Brett Kavanaugh, it does not. Kavanaugh so disagreed with the majority that he wrote a dissent explaining why the Louisiana law should be allowed to move forward—an opinion that should not be taken as anything less than a declaration of war on Roe v. Wade.
The case, June Medical Services v. Gee, should be an easy one. It is a challenge to a Louisiana law that is nearly identical to the Texas statute invalidated in Whole Woman’s Health. Louisiana, like Texas, compelled its abortion providers to obtain surgical privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of their clinics. These privileges are often difficult if not impossible to obtain—hospitals can, and do, deny them because they oppose abortion. More importantly, they provide absolutely no medical benefit to women, as the Supreme Court ruled in Whole Woman’s Health. Because these measures impose a substantial burden on abortion providers (and their patients) while providing no benefit to women, the court found them to be unconstitutional.
Then, in 2018, Justice Anthony Kennedy, who cast the fifth vote in Whole Woman’s Health, retired. He was replaced by Kavanaugh, who has a history of upholding abortion restrictions while claiming fidelity to Roe. In anticipation of Kavanaugh refusing to apply abortion precedents, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused to enforce Whole Woman’s Health. Instead, it asserted (falsely) that the Louisiana law does provide some benefit to women (it does not) and that it doesn’t impose a serious burden. (It does: The law would likely shutter two of Louisiana’s three abortion clinics.) Clearly, the conservative 5th Circuit thought it could overturn Whole Woman’s Health on its own, and trust the Supreme Court to play along.
In the lead-up to this week’s decision, Roberts’ vote was an open question. I wrote last week that his “vote on this emergency appeal will reveal how aggressively the chief justice wants to attack abortion access—and whether he’s willing to sacrifice the rule of law to nullify Roe as fast as possible.” On Thursday, we got our answer. While the chief justice dissented from Whole Woman’s Health, he does not seem disposed to let a lower court simply ignore it.
Kavanaugh feels quite differently. In his dissent, he focused on the fact that, according to the 5th Circuit, Louisiana’s abortion providers did not try hard enough to obtain surgical privileges. That should not matter, because Whole Woman’s Health says the requirement that doctors get privileges in order to perform abortions is unconstitutional, as it bestows no benefit onto patients. This is classic Kavanaugh. On the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, Kavanaugh had a penchant for pretending to apply Roe while finding arbitrary reasons to uphold abortion restrictions. Kavanaugh let the Trump administration prevent an undocumented minor from terminating her pregnancy, on the laughable theory that she could find a sponsor who would remove her from government custody, where she could reassert control over her body. It was a pseudo-moderate procedural solution that had the effect of denying the undocumented minor abortion access altogether. Here, Kavanaugh made the same play, pretending like he’d found a reasonable middle ground that, in reality, serves to rubber-stamp unconstitutional abortion laws.

Foreigners Make Up 80 Percent of Swiss Prison Inmates
The number of prisoners in Switzerland has soared in the last 30 years with foreigners now accounting for 80 per cent of the prison population, according to the Swiss Federal Statistical Office.
The study shows the rate of incarceration has gone from 72 per 100,000 residents in 1988 to 82 in 2017, Radio Télévision Suisse reports.
During the 30-year period, Switzerland saw its prison population increase from 4,621 to 6,907, a 50 per cent increase overall.
In the first decade from 1988 to 1998, Swiss citizens made up around 31 per cent of the prisoners compared to 28 per cent who were foreigners living in Switzerland and 41 per cent who were foreigners residing overseas. In 1989, Swiss citizens made up as much as 44 per cent of prisoners.
During the next two decades, the number of Swiss citizen prisoners fell to only 20 per cent, with foreigners residing in Switzerland going up to 37 per cent in the second decade and back down to 28 per cent in the third.
Foreign prisoners who live overseas rapidly grew in the third decade to where they now account for over half of the prisoners in the Swiss prison system.
The statistics come only months after it was revealed that Switzerland had deported 1,000 migrant criminals in 2017, including 348 from the Balkan region and 250 from Africa.
The trend also mirrors other European countries which have seen high rates of crime in which foreign nationals are often suspects.
In Germany, certain cities such as Berlin have released statistics showing that up to half of the crimes committed in the city involve foreign suspects. In some specific crimes, foreigners were shown to be vastly overrepresented including heroin trafficking where migrants made up 85 per cent of suspects in 2016 in the German capital.
In the Austrian capital of Vienna, the disparity between the crime rate of natives and migrants is even starker with foreigners making up more than half of all the suspects in crimes, according to a report released last August.

(Washington, D.C.) – September 13, 2018 –The non-partisan ethics watchdog group, the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), has asked the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate three outside political groups, the Maine People’s Alliance, the Mainers for Accountable Leadership PAC and Be a Hero Fund PAC for illegally running a crowdfunding website meant to bribe Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) over her upcoming vote on the confirmation of United States Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The groups have tied a payment of over one million dollars directly to Senator Collins’ vote.
According to recent media reports, Senator Collins has become the subject of some very disturbing threats and illegal tactics meant to pressure her into voting against the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh. In one of those actions, the three above mentioned outside groups created a crowdfunding website asking donors to contribute to a yet-to-be named opponent of Susan Collins in her next campaign if Senator Collins votes to confirm Kavanaugh.
The pledge to potential donors offers two scenarios: (1) “Senator Collins votes NO on Kavanaugh and you will not be charged, and no money will go to fund her future opponent.” (2) “Senator Collins votes YES on Kavanaugh and your pledge will go to her opponent's campaign, once that opponent has been identified.”
FACT notes that bribing a public official is illegal under 18 U.S.C. section 201(b)(1) even if the bribe is paid to another person, in this case a potential and unnamed opponent of Senator Collins. As the complaint notes, “the three groups have made the illegal promise to give over one million dollars to another person with the stated intent and purpose to influence a Senator’s vote.” Also, the law also does not require there be an “agreement” between the one offering the bribe and the intended recipient of it.
“This fundraising ploy is not ‘politics as usual,’ but an illegal attempt to influence an elected official’s specific vote and ability to fulfill her constitutional duties,” said Kendra Arnold, Executive Director, Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT). “We are asking the Department of Justice to investigate this matter immediately because this blatant act of public bribery only serves to fuel suspicion of and distrust in our politics and government.”

Kuwait and Indonesia urged the U.N. Security Council on Feb. 6 to call for protection of Palestinians following Israel’s decision to suspend an international observer mission in Hebron, where hundreds of hard-line Jewish settlers live alongside more than 200,000 Palestinians, but diplomats said the United States objected.
The two predominantly Muslim nations on the council called closed-door discussions on the Israeli announcement and then circulated a draft press statement that would recognize the mission’s “efforts to foster calm in a highly sensitive area and fragile situation on the ground.” But the U.S., Israel’s closest ally, rejected the proposed statement, diplomats said, speaking on condition of anonymity because consultations were private.
The Temporary International Presence in Hebron was established in 1994 following Israeli settler Baruch Goldstein’s massacre of 29 worshippers at the Ibrahimi Mosque in the West Bank city that triggered riots across Palestinian areas. The mosque is located at the site that is also revered by Jews as the Tomb of the Patriarchs.
Indonesia’s U.N. ambassador, Dian Djani, told reporters that he and Kuwaiti Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi brought up Israel’s action because they don’t want to see a repetition of the 1994 incident and want “to make sure the situation that is already fragile and tense … is not going to worsen.”
A Security Council resolution adopted in March 1994 strongly condemned the Hebron massacre and called for measures to be taken to guarantee the safety and protection of Palestinian civilians, which led to the monitoring mission. In its latest form, Norway, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey provided unarmed observers and funded the mission in Hebron.
Al-Otaibi said there was “overwhelming support” for an expression of concern that Israel’s action might exacerbate the situation on the ground, saying the mission “was like a preventative tool.”
Ambassador Anatolio Ndong Mba of Equatorial Guinea, the current council president, signaled differences among council members immediately after the meeting, where the U.S. reportedly said Israel had a right not to renew the temporary mission.
Ndong Mba said he had been authorized to inform the Israeli and Palestinian ambassadors about the meeting and to discuss a proposed Security Council visit to the territory that the Palestinians claim for a future independent state.
Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian ambassador at the U.N., stressed that “it is the duty of the Security Council on the basis of the resolutions” to ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians and said he looked forward to meeting with Ndong Mba “as quickly as possible.”
He said the Palestinians will react to a Security Council visit “in the most positive way.”
But Al-Otaibi told reporters that council visits require approval by all 15 members as well as the countries involved, so the U.S. and Israel would have to give a green light.
Mansour said it was premature to say whether the trip would go ahead.
“The positive thing is that there is an agreement, an authorization to the president of the Security Council to begin the process of consultation on that issue,” he said. “Let us give it time, with a positive expectation that it might happen.”

Wells Fargo customers are reporting over social media that they aren't seeing paychecks and direct deposits in their online and mobile banking accounts after Thursday's massive outage, according to USA Today.
As we reported yesterday, Wells Fargo customers were unable to access their accounts for most of the day, which the bank blamed on a power shutdown after smoke was detected at a data center in SHoreview, MN.

Concern over measles, a condition that had been declared eliminated in the United States almost 20 years ago, is growing after Texas this week reported several confirmed cases. Texas is the 11th state so far to report a measles outbreak.
The Houston Chronicle reports a cluster of five confirmed cases were identified Monday (Feb. 4) in the greater Houston area. The cases involved four children, all under the age of 2, and a woman between the ages of 25 and 35, the report says.
The Houston cases bring the current total of confirmed measles cases in the U.S. to 84 so far this year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Measles outbreaks have also been reported in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Washington. The majority of people who are infected were not vaccinated against the disease, according to health officials.
Last year, the agency reported 372 measles cases across the U.S., including two cases in New Orleans. Those cases involved unvaccinated adult patients who were infected before traveling to the U.S.
Louisiana has not reported any confirmed or suspected cases so far this year, according to Louisiana Department of Health officials.
Louisiana has a 1 percent vaccine exemption rate among kindergarteners, which is relatively low compared with other parts of the country. Roughly 0.1 percent of Louisiana parents opt their child out of receiving the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine for medical reasons, according to LDH, which tracks data on parents who request exemptions from the vaccination requirement in Louisiana schools. The remainder of parents opt out because of personal beliefs.
St. Tammany Parish has the highest exemption rate among kindergarteners in state at 4.3 percent, followed by Terrebonne Parish at 2.4 percent, according LDH data. Orleans Parish has an exemption rate of 1.2 percent, placing it among Louisiana parishes with the top 10 highest exemption rates.
Nationally, the number of unvaccinated children under the age of 2 is rising. About 0.9 percent of children born before 2011 had not received any vaccinations, according to CDC estimates. That rose to 1.3 percent of children born in 2015.
Health officials continue to emphasize that the best way to protect children from and prevent measles is to have two doses of the MMR vaccine, which is 97 percent effective against measles.
It can take between 10 and 21 days for a person to develop symptoms after coming into contact with someone who has measles. Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes. Patients eventually develop a rash that spreads across the body.
Residents can call the Orleans and Jefferson Health Units at 504-658-2540 for more information on how and where to get vaccinated. HealthMap Vaccine Finder, a web-based app, also allows users to search for vaccine locations in their area by vaccine type.

All carpets at Los Angeles City Hall may need to be replaced amid a Typhus outbreak that may have infected one city employee while at work, according to a motion filed by Council President Herb Wesson on Wednesday.
Wesson first became aware of a vermin issue in November 2018, contacted pest control experts and removed all his office's carpets, according to the motion.
The motion reported cleanup issues and a noticeable increase in rodents in the area, which could have contributed to the outbreak.
On Thursday, Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez provided to KTLA video showing rats running through City Hall offices. Spooked staffers could be heard shrieking in the background.
Los Angeles county health officials first reported a Typhus outbreak in downtown Los Angeles in October 2018, the year there were 142 Typhus cases in Los Angeles County alone, according to a study by the California Department of Public Health.
Typhus is a deadly bacterial disease that is typically transmitted through fleas that have been infected by rodents.
Symptoms include high fever, chills, headaches, muscle aches, rashes, and in some severe cases, internal bleeding. The disease can be treated with antibiotics, according to the California Department of Public Health.
Wesson's motion asks for a report on the scope of vermin and pest control issues at City Hall, and instructs city staff to report back with a cost estimate for removing all carpets in the building and an assessment of all live plants in any city building.
Elizabeth Greenwood, an L.A. city employee, said she started experiencing flu-like symptoms and went to the doctor in November last year.
A blood test revealed she had contracted Typhus.
“I was in shock. Who thinks of Typhus?” Greenwood said. “I thought of Typhus as something I read about in history books."
She said she felt so sick, she thought she was going to die.
“It is terrifying to me that going from my car, up an elevator to my office, I can get this disease from a flea bite,” Greenwood said.
Greenwood said she refuses to return to work until all of City Hall East is fumigated.
Mayor Eric Garcetti's office issued a statement saying that multiple city departments began a coordinated effort to improve cleanliness in Civic Center last fall.
"In addition to increased trash collection and cleanings, aggressive action has been taken to address pests both in the buildings and in the surrounding outside areas," the statement said.
On Thursday, city workers were seen power-washing the sidewalk outside City Hall, cleaning up piles of trash and filling in rat burrows in the surrounding area.
An email was sent out to all city employees telling them not to leave food out in their work area and to take out the trash daily.
“Rats and cockroaches are survivalists and so they are not easy to eliminate,” Wesson told KTLA. “We need to try to stay one step ahead of them, because what we don’t want, is for some of our employees to get sick.”
Typhus is transmitted through the bite of an infected flea and does not travel from person to person, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
