Trump: 'Surprising' if I don't declare national emergency for wall

President Trump on Thursday gave his strongest indication yet that he may declare a national emergency to circumvent Congress to build a wall along the U.S-Mexico border.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump said it would be “surprising to me” if he did not make an emergency declaration if talks with Democrats fail.

“If this doesn't work out, probably I will do it. I would almost say definitely,” Trump said.

Trump asserted that he has “the absolute right to declare a national emergency,” even though some legal scholars and Democrats say he lacks the power to do so.

But the president said his preference is still to work out a deal with Congress for wall funding.

The comments come one day after negotiations with top Democrats at the White House ended in acrimonious fashion, with Trump walking out of the room when Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) refused his demand for wall funding.

The failure of the talks raised the likelihood that Trump will act on his own to build the wall, which is one of his biggest unfulfilled campaign promises.

Trump laid into Democrats during his 15-minute session with reporters Thursday, saying they have “gone crazy” after being “taken over” by young lawmakers who don't “care about crime,” an apparent reference to freshmen members like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).

“I find China, frankly, in many ways, to be far more honorable than Cryin' Chuck and Nancy,” Trump said, referring to Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.). “China is actually much easier to deal with than the opposition party.”

The president also angrily denied Schumer’s claim that he slammed the table before getting up and leaving Wednesday’s negotiating session in the White House Situation Room.

“I didn’t pound the table. I didn’t pound the table. That is a lie,” he said. “I don’t have temper tantrums.”

Trump’s comments raised the question of if or how negotiations can move forward to end the shutdown, which started Dec. 22 and is affecting about 25 percent of the federal government.

The president is traveling on Thursday to the border town of McAllen, Texas, where he plans to press his case that a wall is the only thing that can stop what he says is a “crisis” of drug smuggling and illegal immigration at the southern border.

Some in Washington believe the trip is a chance for Trump to lay the groundwork for a national emergency declaration.

“I’m not prepared to do that yet, but if I have to, I will,” the president said of the emergency declaration.

Trump White House urging allies to prepare for possible RBG departure

After an ailing Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg missed oral arguments, the Trump team began early groundwork for another potential confirmation battle.

es. But her departure from the Court would allow Trump to nominate a third Supreme Court justice — the most in one presidential term since President Ronald Reagan placed three judges on the highest court during his second term.

The nine-member court is currently divided 5-4 between its conservative and liberal wings. Ginsburg’s departure would allow Trump to create the Court’s strongest conservative majority in decades, a scenario sure to bring intense opposition from Democrats and liberal activists still furious over the October confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

"It would be a brutal confirmation,” said John Malcolm, director of the Heritage Foundation's Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. “The first two were not easy at all, but this would be much harder in this respect: When Neil Gorsuch was the nominee, you were replacing a conservative with a conservative. With Kavanaugh, you were replacing the perennial swing voter, who more times than not sided with the so-called conservative wing, so that slightly solidified the conservative wing.”

“But if you are replacing Justice Ginsburg with a Trump appointee, that would be akin to replacing Thurgood Marshall with Clarence Thomas,” Malcolm added. “It would mark a large shift in the direction of the court."

The White House is urging outside allies to be prepared for another bruising confirmation battle should Ginsberg’s health take a sudden turn for the worse, according to four sources with knowledge of the overtures. Outside groups, led by the Federalist Society and the Judicial Crisis Network, played a leading role in helping to confirm Kavanaugh and, before that, Justice Neil Gorsuch.

The groups have advised the Trump team on everything from potential nominees to political and media strategy, producing television advertisements and blitzing reporters with supportive messaging. Together, the conservative groups spent over $7 million on ads supporting Kavanaugh’s nomination.

The White House has quietly pressed them not to rest on their laurels after Kavanaugh’s nationally-divisive confirmation battle amid charges of sexual misconduct.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Though Ginsburg and the Court itself have been tight-lipped about her health, her absence from the bench this week has become a cause of concern because of her remarkable past attendance streak, which persisted through two previous cancer treatments and a number of other health scares. At the outset of oral arguments on Monday, Chief Justice John Roberts said she was “unable to be present” but would participate in the cases nonetheless, reading briefs, filings, and a transcript of the sessions.

Supreme Court appointments are indefinite, and a seat is considered empty only if a justice dies or retires from the court. In the event a judge is unable to perform his or her duties, the only clear recourse is Congressional impeachment.

Ginsburg told an audience in mid-December that she “will do this job as long as I can do it full steam.” As a candidate in July 2016,

Trump tweeted that her “mind is shot — resign!” But after her surgery last month he wished her a “full and speedy recovery."

The White House counsel’s office and senior aides on the Senate Judiciary Committee, now chaired by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.), have begun drafting a shortlist of potential court nominees. It features judges the president has considered for previous vacancies along with some new names. Many of them are women, sources say.

They include Seventh Circuit judge Amy Coney Barrett, who was a leading contender for the last Supreme Court vacancy, created by Justice Anthony Kennedy; Sixth Circuit judges Joan Larsen, Amul Thapar, and Raymond Kethledge; Eleventh Circuit judge Britt Grant; and Third Circuit judge Thomas Hardiman; and Neomi Rao, Trump’s current nominee for Kavanaugh’s old seat on the D.C. Circuit Court.

Should Ginsburg’s seat open, it would be the first confirmation battle of White House counsel Pat Cipollone’s tenure. The president’s first White House counsel Don McGahn — who focused heavily on confirming conservative judges to the federal bench — left the White House shortly after he played a central role in Kavanaugh’s October confirmation.

“Outside of war and peace, of course, the most important decision you make is the selection of a Supreme Court judge, if you get it,” Trump said last summer.

Pedophile Reportedly Confesses to Killing 6-Year-Old Beauty Queen JonBenét Ramsey in 1996

On Thursday, The Daily Mail reported that a man who has been a suspect in the murder of six-year-old beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey in 1996 reportedly admitted he killed her. The crime has been unsolved for 22 years.

DailyMailTV obtained letters written by Gary Oliva, who is now 54, to a former high school classmate, music publicist Michael Vail. Investigators have conjectured that Oliva joined other men in in breaking into JonBenét's Ramsey’s house. A ransom note demanding $118,000 for the girl was found on the kitchen staircase before her body was found. The tiny girl was found with a broken skull from a blow to the head and had been strangled; a garrote was tied around her neck. In 2003, trace DNA that was taken from the child’s clothes showed it came from an unknown male; prompting the DA to send the Ramseys a letter of apology in 2008, declaring the family "completely cleared."

Oliva, a convicted pedophile who is currently serving a 10-year sentence in a Colorado prison for having child pornography on his phone, allegedly stated in a letter to Vail, “'I never loved anyone like I did JonBenét and yet I let her slip and her head bashed in half and I watched her die. It was an accident. Please believe me. She was not like the other kids.” He wrote in another letter, “JonBenét completely changed me and removed all evil from me. Just one look at her beautiful face, her glowing beautiful skin, and her divine God-body, I realized I was wrong to kill other kids. Yet by accident she died and it was my fault.”

Vail, 55, told DailyMailTV:

My suspicions began when Gary called me late at night on December 26, 1996. He was sobbing and said, 'I hurt a little girl.' I had known Gary from my time at high school and we had kept in touch. When he said he had hurt a little girl I tried to get more information out of him. The only other thing he told me was that he was in the Boulder, Colorado area. On December 27 I read on the front page of my local newspaper 'Girl, 6, slain in Boulder, Colorado'. I knew I had to alert the police. I immediately called the Boulder Police Department and told them what I knew about Gary and what he had told me just days earlier. They didn't get back to me. Three months later I called the police again to find out what was going on in its investigation of Gary, but instead I was sent to a police answering machine set up for tips on the JonBenét case. I left a message on the recorded line and again I never heard back from investigators.”

He continued:

I've continued this for decades now, even with him being in prison. But he has only just admitted to killing her. He believes he will go to hell if he doesn't admit to it. I have now sent these letters to Boulder police in the hope it will get Gary to provide them with firm proof and to name who else may have been involved in JonBenét's death. I hope it helps bring justice for JonBenét and peace for her family. Now they have this, a written confession, the police need to charge him with her murder. The thought that he could be released on probation next year chills me to the bone because he should never be allowed out. He is a danger to society. The day he walks free is the day I will be terrified for every child and family.

The letters were given to Boulder, Colorado, police. Police spokesperson Laurie Ogden told DailyMailTV, “The Boulder Police Department is aware of and has investigated Mr. Olivas’ potential involvement in this case. We have passed the additional information you provided onto investigators. We will not comment on any actions or the status of this investigation.”

JonBenét Ramsey’s body was discovered by her father John Ramsey in their home’s basement on December 26, 1996. DailyMailTV gained possession of a police report regarding Oliva’s 2016 arrest; the report stated hundreds of photos of JonBenét were found on the phone. Prior investigations showed Oliva had an address ten blocks from the Ramsay home in 1996.

Pompeo: Turkey’s Threats Won’t Delay US Pullout From Syria

Speaking in the Iraqi Kurdish capital of Irbil on Wednesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo dismissed the idea of Turkish threats of military action against the Syrian YPG having any impact on the US withdrawal from Syria. He said that the pullout would not impact a US commitment to protect the YPG.

Pompeo’s position seems to be to overtly ignore the comments made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on how no concessions can be made with respect to the YPG. OK so now here are Pro lifers arguments for their position - rebuttal

Fetus are called "babies" in scripture:

“The babies jostled each other within her.” (Genesis 25:22)

Sorry but this is just a misleading translation - in Hebrew the word "baby" comes from the root word that means "nursing." Furthermore this verse symbolizes (or prophecizes) the future conflict between the two lines of Isaac (hebrew) and Esau (arab) resulting from the battle over Isaac's birthrights. it is not intended to be read literally.

And here - "As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.(Luke 1:41) - Again this is clearly not intended to be read literally - the "baby" (translation misleading) did not leap - it is just a honor and manner of saying that your child (Mary) will be greater than mine (Elizabeth) And that was certainly true.

However, the most quoted scripture in support of the the pro life position is Jeremiah, which refers to God knowing and honoring the fruits of his mother's womb:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” (Jeremiah 1:5)

Of course this says nothing at all about when life begins or abortion - it only makes clear that God knew the future and fate of that Prophet BEFORE he even was formed in the womb - not after.

And this Psalm:

For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb…Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be. (Psalm 139:13,16) Again this only states that Gos knows all and creates all - it says nothing about when life begins or abortion.

Same case for these scriptures:

This is what the Lord says—He who made you, who formed you in the womb. (Isaiah 44:2)

“Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One form us both within our mothers?” (Job 31:15)

And of course the Ten Commandments - "thous shall not murder" is the correct translation but pro- lifers say "Thou shalt not kill" = clearly wrong since killing is condoned in the bible in war, for pusnishment, in self defense etc and is NOT murder.

I was involved in the internal decisions involving James Damore's memo, and it's terrible what we did to him.''''

First of all, we knew about the memo a month before it went viral. HR sent it up the reporting chain when he gave it as internal feedback, but we did nothing. There wasn't anything we could do, except admit to wrongdoing and lying to our employees. We just hoped that no one else would see his document.

Unfortunately, the memo started spreading within the company. The floodgates opened and previously silent employees started talking. To quell dissent, we: told executives to write to their employees condemning the memo; manipulated our internal Memegen to bias the ratings towards anti-Damore posts (the head of Memegen is an "ally" to the diversity cause); and gave every manager talking points on what to tell their reports about the memo. In all our communications, we concentrated on how hurt employees purportedly were and diverted attention from Google's discriminatory employment practices and political hegemony, never mind the science.

We needed to make an example of Damore. Looking for some excuse to fire him, we spied on his phone and computer. We didn't find anything, although our spying probably made his devices unusably slow, preventing him from organizing support within the company. When we did fire him, our reputation and integrity took a hit, but at least other employees were now afraid to speak up.

Firing him without an NDA was a huge risk though. He was a top performer and knew too many compromising secrets, like Dragonfly, the secret censored search project in China. He had also reported several legally dubious practices in Search that still exist. Only God knows why he never leaked Dragonfly or the other issues, but I think it's because he actually cared about Google.

Our response after we fired him was equally disgraceful. We were supposed to have a Town Hall TGIF to answer employees' questions about the controversy. However, after questions started coming in that we couldn't reasonably answer, we had to cancel it. We shifted the blame onto "alt-right trolls" and have avoided talking about it openly since then.

To control the narrative, we planted stories with journalists and flexed Google's muscles where necessary. In exchange for insider access and preferential treatment, all we ask for is their loyalty. For online media, Google's ads pay their paycheck and our search brings their customers, so our influence shouldn't be underestimated.

We dealt with his NLRB case in a similar way. People are ultimately lazy, so we found a sympathetic lawyer in the NLRB and wrote the internal NLRB memo for her. No one wanted to spend the effort to oppose it, despite it being laughably weak. Then, after Damore dropped his NLRB case and filed a class action lawsuit, we had the NLRB publicly release their memo.
