A man obtains a 3D-printed replica pistol, scrawls epithets on the bullets, lays in wait, and shoots a man who is in the insurance business in the back of the head at point-blank range on a New York City street.
A man steals his grandpa's rifle, positions himself on the rooftop at a Utah college, and waits for a popular young man to come into his crosshairs. He shoots him in the neck, silencing his voice.
That's bad enough, but in every case, a chorus of evil-spirited ghouls cheer on the demons. Some even copied the acts.
If you've gone to church longer than a cup of coffee, you know how debased our human natures are, and how much we need God. You also know that good and evil exist. As fewer people attend a house of worship and rely on their own understanding about human nature, the soul, and erroneous assumptions about man's goodness, evil gains a foothold.
I heard a sermon the other day in which a pastor tells about a conversation with a man at a golf club. They got to talking about God, and the man brought up the fact that he kept getting interrupted while praying. The pastor prayed for the guy about that issue, and suddenly a voice began coming out of the man — and it wasn't his voice. He called the demon out of the man.
Remember the story about the guy who was duct-taped on the plane? He was sitting next to a Messianic pastor (Jewish Christian) and author, and the two had been chatting nicely for two hours when the man asked the pastor what his latest book was about. The book was about demon possession, and the man, using a voice that wasn't his, went berserk. Central London hit by mass power cut with 32 postcodes affected
Buildings in central London lost power this morning in a widespread outage.
Swathes of central London were hit by a power cut following a fault.
Around 32 postcodes, including thousands of homes and businesses across east London, were affected by the outage on Monday, according to UK Power Networks (UKPN) which maintains the electricity networks across the capital, the South East, and east of England.
The agency said the outage was caused by a fault with an underground electricity cable in the local area.
London Liverpool Street was impacted as a power outage affected parts of east London
Pictures on social media showed London Liverpool Street’s departure screens were blank and shops were left in the dark. Offices came to a standstill as wi-fi was switched off during the power outage and monitors turned black.
The Great Northern line was affected, with trains unable to stop at Essex Road as the platform lighting cut off. The train provider advised people to travel via Old Street or Highbury and Islington to complete their journey, and to allow extra time to arrive at their destinations.
The power cut began around 10.32am, with electricity gradually being restored to parts of London. At least 15 minutes after the outage began, UKPN diverted power to restore electricity to 4,989 homes and businesses.
Customers in E8 and surrounding areas came out of the outage at 11.32am, before power was restored at 12.09pm across all postcodes.
UKPN initially said it believed power would be fully restored between 12pm and 1pm.
Official government guidance for power cuts advises those affected to keep a battery or wind-up torch at home, and a supply of bottled water and non-perishable food that doesn’t need cooking such as ready-to-eat tinned meat, tinned fruit and vegetables, and a can opener.
The government also suggests those eligible sign up for their energy supplier’s priority service register if they need additional support during a power cut.
As internet connectivity and mobile signal can go down during an outage, they advise keeping a battery- or wind-up radio (and spare batteries) at home to communicate by radio during a power cut.
People with personal alarms or equipment that monitors their health, such as diabetes sensors, may also be affected by power cuts. The government advised these people to speak to their device provider or manufacturer to understand how they will function during a power cut.

CHICAGO — Former House speaker Dennis Hastert, who less than a decade ago stood second in line to the presidency, was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison Wednesday for a bank fraud case linked to allegations he sexually abused teen boys more than 30 years ago.
Federal Judge Thomas Durkin called Hastert, 74, a "serial child molester" and rejected a prosecutor's recommendation of six months in prison on a banking charge that carries a maximum five-year sentence. The court also fined Hastert $250,000 and sentenced him to two years of supervised release after leaving prison. Hastert must register as a sex offender.
"Nothing is more disturbing than having 'serial child molester' and 'Speaker of the House' in the same sentence," Durkin said.
Hastert, who entered court in a wheelchair and needed help standing to address the judge, admitted for the first time mistreating some athletes when he was a high school wrestling coach in Illinois before he began a political career that saw him become the top Republican in Congress.
“I want to apologize to the boys I mistreated,” Hastert said. “They looked (up) at me and I took advantage of them.”
Zachary Fardon, the U.S. Attorney for Northern Illinois, said federal guidelines for the charge of illegal structuring of bank withdrawals dictated his office's recommendation for up to a six-month prison term. Hastert pleaded guilty to the charge in October. Fardon noted that Hastert would have faced more serious charges for sex abuse had the statutes of limitation for the criminal sexual misconduct not expired years ago.
The federal guidelines set a maximum sentence for illegal structuring at five years in prison. Prosecutors say Hastert knowingly tried to evade triggering a rule that requires banks to report withdrawals over $10,000 to the IRS, but the money was legally obtained and he paid all appropriate taxes on the funds. Those details direct prosecutors to seek a relatively short sentence under the guidelines.
"We followed the case where it led, we brought the charges we could bring, and through that Mr. Hastert's legacy and legend are gone," Fardon said. "In its place are a broken, humiliated man."
Durkin acknowledged he could not sentence Hastert "for being a child molester" and that his sentence would "pale in comparison" to what the former lawmaker would have faced had he been convicted of state charges for sexual abuse of a child.
