Record 89% Of Americans Say Government Corruption Widespread

A record 89% of US adults say government corruption is widespread - which is up 10% from last year, and far above the average 72%-79% between 2010 and 2025, according to a new Gallup poll.

Unsurprisingly, Democrats' perceptions of government corruption spiked the most since 2024 - going from 57% to 91% this year, while independents also feel this way at 90%. Republicans at 83% are up 12 points since 2024.

According to Gallup, the reasons are different between Republicans and Democrats - with Dems' perceptions appearing closely linked with whatever party is in power, while Republicans have much greater consistency on the topic - which "suggests a more underlying view of government corruption that depends less on the party in power."

Gallup also notes that before the recent increase, the US already outranked other advanced economies in corruption perceptions. Continued:

The U.S. has increasingly diverged from other advanced economies in perceptions of government corruption, based on Gallup polling across the 38 member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The median level of perceived corruption among OECD countries has fallen from 69% in 2009 to below 60% since 2022.

Full data collection for 2026 is not yet complete in all countries, so the closest comparison across the OECD is from 2025, when a median of 59% said corruption is widespread in their government.

In the early years of this trend, countries such as Greece, Hungary and the Czech Republic all saw scores above 90%. But over time, the highest levels of perceived corruption across the bloc have gradually fallen, reaching 79% in 2025 — placing the U.S. atop the OECD rankings for the first time, even before the additional 10-point increase within the past year.

By 2024, there was already a 15-point gap between the U.S. and OECD countries on this metric, but that rose to 20 points in 2025 as U.S. perceptions of corruption increased six points to 79%, compared with 59% across the OECD. The gap between the U.S. and the OECD median could potentially be even wider this year.

Two CDC-supported studies on Danish autism rates between 1995 and 2000 present contradictory findings: one claims an increase in autism cases after the mercury-based preservative thimerosal was removed from childhood vaccines, while the other reports a steady decline.

Both papers cannot be correct. And the CDC will not come clean about the discrepancy between the studies. One researcher, former CDC employee Diana Schendel, was involved in both studies. She should be questioned under oath as to what happened.

Two CDC Danish Autism/Vax Studies; Two Opposite Conclusions; The Felon Says Mercury Is Safe

Two US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) studies of the autism rate in Denmark in the 90s: the first one, produced by admitted felon Poul Thorsen, says the autism rate increased from 1995 to 2000, which was then used to claim there is no connection between giving infants mercury in vaccines and autism; the second study found that the autism rate in Denmark not only decreased from 1995 to 2000, but was more than 10 times higher than the rate claimed by Thorsen. At least one of these studies is bogus.

Thorsen was a Danish researcher hired by the CDC in 1999 to do a series of studies, including several on the role of vaccines causing autism. He was indicted for embezzling more than $1 million from the CDC and other crimes by a US federal court in 2011. He lived openly in Denmark, where he was an instructor at Aarhus University, but was finally arrested and extradited to the US in 2025. Yesterday he pleaded guilty.

The first study, ‘Thimerosal and the Occurrence of Autism: Negative Ecological Evidence from Danish Population-Based Data’, a widely publicised and highly influential study released in 2003, claimed that mercury in vaccines played no role in causing autism because the rate of autism in Danish children increased after mercury was removed from Danish-produced vaccines in 1992.

Another CDC study, ‘Recurrence of Autism Spectrum Disorders in Full- and Half-Siblings and Trends Over Time: A Population-Based Cohort Study’, led by Therese K. Gronborg and released in 2013, however, shows the exact opposite: that the rate of autism in Danish children decreased after mercury was removed. And if the increasing rate of autism claimed in the earlier study showed that mercury had no role in causing autism, then logic would also require that the rate of autism going down, as shown in the current study, indicates that mercury in vaccines may very well have a great deal to do with causing autism.

If you are lucky enough to experience a total eclipse somewhere quiet and close to nature, you may be able to notice unusual daytime animal behaviors. During totality, you may hear nighttime sounds like crickets and frogs and see fireflies. In the dark, most birds are quiet. Thinking that it is time to go to bed, ducks and other waterfowl prepare to sleep on one leg, with their heads turned around and their beaks tucked into their back feathers (they don't really sleep with their heads tucked under one wing). When sunlight returns at the end of totality, songbirds greet the new "morning" with their dawn songs. The crickets and frogs go quiet again. Animals and people resume their lifes, only briefly disturbed by the chance alignment of our Sun and Moon.

Another Google Court Loss: Federal Judge Orders Tech Giant to Change Its Ad Practices After Ruling It Ran Illegal Monopoly

Google received another public flogging in federal court on Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema in Alexandria, Virginia, ordered Google to stop the conduct that has been strangling revenue from web publishers for years — the latest blow in the government’s antitrust case against the tech giant’s advertising empire.

This follows Brinkema’s ruling last year that Google violated US antitrust laws by unlawfully maintaining monopoly power in open web display advertising. It was the SECOND time a federal judge ruled that Google held an illegal monopoly in part of its business, after Judge Amit Mehta found the same thing in online search.

Google is a monopolist. The courts confirmed this again.

The Department of Justice announced its victory in their case in April 2025:

“This is a landmark victory in the ongoing fight to stop Google from monopolizing the digital public square,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “This Department of Justice will continue taking bold legal action to protect the American people from encroachments on free speech and free markets by tech companies.”

Assistant Attorney General Abigail Slater went even further in the same DOJ statement:

“The Court’s ruling is clear: Google is a monopolist and has abused its monopoly power. Google’s unlawful dominance allows them to censor and even deplatform American voices. And at the same time, Google destroyed and hid information that exposed its illegal conduct. Today’s opinion confirms Google’s controlling hand over online advertising and, increasingly, the internet itself.”

Google censors and deplatforms American voices. The DOJ said it clear and out loud.

Here’s what the case was about… Google controlled BOTH sides of the online advertising market. It owned the platforms publishers use to sell ad space, the platforms advertisers use to buy it, AND the AdX exchange where the transactions happen — while pocketing a 20 percent fee.

Government lawyers even recounted how a senior Google executive once compared the setup to Goldman Sachs owning the New York Stock Exchange.

Historically, Google has taken a cut of over 30 cents on the dollar for every advert that passes through the system.

On Wednesday, Judge Brinkema, in a two-page order, declined to force Google to sell off the AdX exchange. But she ordered “behavioral remedies” — a set of rules governing how Google must operate — and will publish the full details in 14 days. She indicated she accepted “most of the parties’ proposed behavioral remedies.”

The DOJ said it was “pleased that the court ordered substantial relief” and added: “We are one step closer to restoring competition and bringing relief for the American people in online advertising markets. The Department is evaluating appropriate next steps.”

Google, of course, spun the ruling as a win because the court didn’t break the company apart, and it says it will appeal.

But Google’s troubles are far from over. Last year, the European Commission fined the company €2.95 billion ($3.5 billion) over its ad tech practices in an EU shakedown. A trial in Texas over its digital advertising practices was paused pending the outcome in Virginia.

And publishers and competitors are moving ahead with their own lawsuits seeking financial damages.

Two federal judges. Two illegal monopolies. And Big Tech’s grip on the digital public square is finally being pried loose — one ruling at a time.

Mysterious decagon over Saturn’s south pole even bigger than its famous northern hexagon

Cape Canaveral: Scientists have discovered an enormous 10-sided wave pattern in the icy ammonia clouds over Saturn’s south pole.

The spinning, meandering decagon appears to be even bigger and more unstable than the hexagon of clouds around Saturn’s north pole that was spied by NASA’s twin Voyagers in the 1980s, the Spanish-led team reported Wednesday.

This new jet stream formation popped up in the Hubble Space Telescope’s sights in 2023 after earlier observations came up empty.

The researchers suspect the bizarre atmospheric phenomenon may have formed between 2017 and 2023, when Saturn’s south pole was tilted away from Earth and therefore out of view.

It could still be evolving, with a single side of the decagon already exceeding 16,700 kilometers.

The findings are significant because it shows “the ‘unique’ hexagon is not as extraordinary as we thought," lead author Agustin Sanchez-Lavega with the University of the Basque Country said in an email.

The findings were published in the journal Science Advances.

Although all of the solar system’s planets with atmospheres have wave-spawning disturbances, only Saturn churns them out looking like polygons, geometric shapes bounded by straight lines.

Both sit on jet streams, but the hexagon is practically stationary whereas the decagon migrates eastward at a tame 6 mph (10 kph).

“Saturn still has the ability to surprise us," the University of Leicester's Leigh Fletcher said in a statement. He measured the wind in the decagon as part of the study using the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in Chile.

By comparing these two formations on opposite ends of Saturn, scientists can learn more about the weather patterns of giant gas planets, according to Sanchez-Lavega.

“This is a highly interesting phenomenon that appears to be unique to Saturn, and we want to know why,” he said.

Sanchez-Lavega wonders whether they might be related to the cyclones on Jupiter that are arranged in polygonal shapes.

Improving views of Saturn's southern hemisphere over the next several years should allow astronomers to capture more details of the decagon and perhaps solve “this intriguing atmospheric mystery,” he said.

It’s unclear whether the decagon will last as long as the hexagon, which has been visible by spacecraft for more than 40 years. That is longer than a Saturnian year, which is equivalent to 30 Earth years.

“For the time being, all I can confirm is that the decagon is still there,” Sanchez-Lavega said.

NASA Rocket Takes First Multi-Point Look Inside Radio-Disrupting Clouds

High above Earth, thin veils of metallic haze drift through the edge of space.

Known as sporadic E layers, these high-altitude “clouds” form from the vaporized dust of burnt-up meteors, earning their name from the unpredictable way they emerge and then dissipate.

Now, new results from a NASA sounding rocket — a suborbital research rocket — that flew five detectors through one of these layers simultaneously reveal unexpected complexity in the layer for the first time.

Though invisible to the eye, sporadic E layers make their presence known to the radio signals we rely on for long-distance communication.

When present, sporadic E can send those signals ping-ponging off in unexpected directions, rendering the technology temporarily unreliable.

Scientists have long sought a fuller understanding of these radio-disrupting clouds, but until recently, they had only sampled them one narrow slice at a time.

The rocket, called the sporadic E Electrodynamics Demonstration, or SpEED Demon for short, launched from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia on Aug. 24, 2022, and demonstrated the first concurrent, multi-point view inside sporadic E.

Its results, from a team led by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, are described in a new study in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics.

Sporadic E layers form in the ionosphere, a region of the upper atmosphere beginning around 40 miles (60 kilometers) up where the neutral gases begin to transform into plasma, or ionized gas.

Some of the particles there come from meteors, which burn up and leave behind traces of iron, magnesium, and other metals. These metals occasionally clump into dense, cloud-like sheets — the sporadic E layers — that reflect radio waves.

“Sporadic E layers are, in one sense, giant mirrors of radio frequency waves in the sky,” said Aroh Barjatya, the mission’s principal investigator and a professor of engineering physics at Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, Florida.

When a sporadic E layer forms, signals meant to travel out to space can ricochet back toward the ground.

Air traffic controllers and marine radio users may pick up distant transmissions as though they were nearby, and radars scanning beyond the horizon can register so-called “ghosts,” or false targets. The effects reach everyday technology, too.

“The biggest source of error in the GPS in your phone, for example, is from the plasma in the ionosphere, and sporadic E layers can contribute to this uncertainty,” said Henry Valentine, the study’s lead author, who conducted the work at Embry-Riddle and is now a researcher at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.

Station Crew Cleans Up, Relaxes After Busy Month of Spacewalks

The Expedition 75 crew members are coming off a busy period that saw four spacewalks take place in one month outside of the International Space Station.

The orbital septet cleaned spacesuits, conducted cargo operations, and relaxed throughout Wednesday.

Astronauts Sophie Adenot of ESA (European Space Agency) and Jessica Meir of NASA completed the last of four spacewalks during a monthlong period on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Adenot and Meir spent six hours and 49 minutes installing a spacecraft navigation aid, swabbing the station’s exterior for microorganisms, and preparing a cosmic particle detector for future upgrades.

The duo spent Wednesday mostly relaxing taking time out for exercise and joining NASA flight engineers Anil Menon and Jack Hathaway for a post-spacewalk conference with mission controllers on the ground.

Menon worked throughout Wednesday refilling spacesuit tanks with water, photographing suit gloves for inspection, and downlinking video captured from cameras attached to the spacewalkers’ helmets.

He also transferred cargo in and out of the Cygnus XL cargo spacecraft berthed to the Unity module since April 13. Hathaway swapped out orbital plumbing components in the Tranquility module and uninstalled gear from inside a research incubator.

The duo also spent a portion of Wednesday relaxing following their daylong support of Tuesday’s spacewalking activities.

During August, three spacewalks were performed with the first taking place on Aug. 6 when Meir and Menon installed a modification kit on the station’s starboard truss structure preparing it for a future roll-out solar array.

The next two spacewalks saw Menon and Adenot disconnect a failed space-to-ground antenna from the Z1 truss segment on Aug. 18, then install a spare antenna on Z1 on Aug. 25.

The station’s three cosmonauts from Roscosmos stayed busy throughout Wednesday with a variety of research, cargo, and inspection duties.

Flight engineer Andrey Fedyaev turned off a camera that automatically photographed wildfires on Earth in multiple wavelengths during the crew’s sleep shift. Next, he photographed the condition of light fixtures in the Zarya module for analysis.

Flight engineer Pyotr Dubrov packed items for disposal inside the Progress 94 resupply ship then photographed the condition of windows inside the Zvezda and Nauka modules.

Flight engineer Anna Kikina checked the operation of scientific equipment, deployed carbon dioxide monitoring hardware, then cleaned Roscosmos ventilation systems.

NASA’s SpaceX Crew-13 mission now is targeted to launch no earlier than late September to the International Space Station. A new target launch date will be shared once confirmed.
