The world's richest people added $336billion to their fortunes in a single day on Monday, marking the biggest 24-hour gain ever recorded.
The surge, calculated at the close of trading in New York, pushed the combined wealth of the world's 500 richest people to a record $13.3 trillion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Elon Musk, the world's first trillionaire, widened his lead as the world's richest person after his fortune jumped more than 10 per cent to $1.27 trillion.
SpaceX was the biggest driver of the historic wealth surge as retail investors rushed to buy shares following its blockbuster stock market debut.
The company's value jumped by around 20 per cent, adding $164billion to Mr Musk's fortune in a single day, almost equal to the combined gains of the other 499 billionaires on Bloomberg's index.
The extraordinary rise has also widened the gap among the super-rich, with the world's 50 wealthiest people now controlling $6.5 trillion - almost as much as the $6.8 trillion held by the remaining 450 people on the list.
The rise means even the 12 least wealthy people on Bloomberg's rich list are now worth at least $7.9 billion each, the highest-ever threshold needed to enter the ranking.

Moderna’s court filings from last week are explosive (imho) because they admit the company knew about problems with mRNA technology BEFORE EUA.
They knew mRNA was unstable.
They knew the immune system could attack it.
They knew they had to chemically modify it so the body ght away.
They knew it needed lipid nanoparticles to protect it and deliver it into cells.
They knew full-length coronavirus spike vaccines came with disease-enhancement concerns.
Then they sold the public Spikevax: modified mRNA, wrapped in lipid nanoparticles, instructing human cells to make full-length spike.
That is not the simple “safe and effective” story Americans were sold. Extremely rare & mild side effect. 🤥
That was a platform technology with known issues.

Local officials in Arizona’s Maricopa County have accused county recorder Justin Heap’s office of improperly seizing election equipment and documents as votes were being counted in local elections earlier this year.
In taking the equipment and files, Heap’s office set off “grave chain-of-custody concerns” and forced the county to purchase new equipment, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors said in a press release Monday.
In the county’s press release, Board Chair Kate Brophy McGee, a Republican, and Board Vice Chair Debbie Lesko, another Republican, said security cameras in March recorded staff from Heap’s office removing a scanner from a secure election site without permission.
Besides the scanner, which the board said it controlled, Heap’s office also took provisional ballot envelopes, some of which may have contained live ballots for municipal elections in Tempe, Arizona.

- 6.2 million people want a job but aren't counted they've stopped actively looking
- The number out of work for 27+ weeks rose 524,000 over the year
- That long-term group is now 27.5% of all unemployed - more than 1 in 4
A 4.3% rate can sit perfectly still while millions quietly give up underneath it.
