President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he will suspend federal funding to sanctuary cities and states beginning Feb. 1 as his administration’s immigration crackdown continues.

“Starting February 1, we are not making any payments to sanctuary cities or states having sanctuary cities because they do everything possible to protect criminals at the expense of American citizens,” Trump said during his address at the Detroit Economic Club.

He continued, “It breeds fraud and crime and all of the other problems that come, so we’re not making any payment to anybody that supports sanctuary cities.”

Sanctuary cities often have policies limiting local law enforcement’s ability to cooperate with federal immigration officers.

The Department of Justice has identified 11 states as sanctuary jurisdictions, including California, Illinois, Minnesota and New York. The District of Columbia is also considered a sanctuary jurisdiction.

California’s stock market billionaires are angrily denouncing a proposed tax to fund healthcare for the millions of illegal migrants they welcomed into their state. The tech sector “is getting what they had coming ….[after] pushing for open borders and unbridled employment visas,” said Kevom Lynn, founder of U.S. Tech Workers, which opposes the H-1B program. He continued:

A strong, middling class that can form families, pay for college educations without going into debt, and pay for health care, doesn’t need this kind of a [tax] grift … but now it’s on the tech bros to pay for the health care for all these illegal immigrants — and all the healthcare workers who have to service them.

“You funded Democrats and the people who censored, locked down, and tormented us. That was your political gamble,” said a message from conservative activistMike Cernovich. In a later tweet, he added: 90% of Tech and VC [executives] are cultural Marxists with a hatred of Americans. That’s why they want infinite [subordinate] H-1B’s. They hate [citizens].But, he added, “There’s a split happening … We can take back the country with 10% of them.”

Billionaire Rethink

The political drama is forcing many billionaires to recognize that their pro-migration policies are importing resentment and poverty, so shifting national politics against their pocketbooks.

The proposed tax is likely to appear on California’s ballot in November. Once passed, the measure would require roughly 200 billionaires to pay a share of the controlling value they own in companies, including companies they founded.

Proponents say the ballot would raise $100 billion, mostly for healthcare programs. On January 10, the Wall Street Journal quoted an official at the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West, saying, “We’re simply trying to keep emergency rooms open and save patient lives…the few [billionaires] who left have shown the world just how outrageously greedy they truly are.”

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), a supposed moderate Democrat, has supported the proposed tax. He needs the support of Democratic-aligned unions for his expected presidential campaign.

Many billionaires are blasting the tax as a crude wealth-grab — and some are leaving the state . Those concerns were echoed by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on January 12:

Open immigration would be something interesting if we gave people nothing [in welfare]. Because if we gave them nothing, if they weren’t smart enough, capable, entrepreneurial enough, driven enough, they would starve to death, and so they wouldn’t stay here, they would self deport. But if you give them welfare, and you’re going to give them food stamps, and you’re gonna give them housing and you give them this, everybody’s gonna come and just leech off of us, and we’re going to pay and pay and pay.

Separately, a growing number ofAmerican CEOs — including some left-wingers — are increasingly alarmed at Muslim migration into the United States. Buying a Fix

The billionaires are spending some of their cash to win a political fix.“It’s time for Silicon Valley to actually get involved and organized in California,” said Gerry Tan, an investor in many tech companies. “I will fight,” said Fang, the DoorDash founder who has funded many prior political battles.

On January 13, they won support from California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is planning his own run for President in 2028. “This will be defeated — there’s no question in my mind … I’ll do what I have to do to protect the state,” he told the New York Times, which added:

While Mr. Newsom helped stop past wealth tax bills in the State Capitol, the new proposal is being driven by the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West through the initiative process and beyond the reach of his veto pen.

“I want to be adamant and very clear: This is a ballot measure we are putting on the ballot,” [Suzanne Jimenez, the chief of staff for the labor union] said. “We’re going to have voters vote on it in November.”

But the billionaires have yet to offer any concessions to the many millions of American voters who have lost wages and wealth amid the billionaires’ stock-market boom and far-left political advocacy.

Those wealth-sharing concessions could include elite support for ending the Extraction Migration economy that damages ordinary Americans. The billionaires might even offer curbs on the H-1B visa program that is deliberately used to push millions of American college graduates out of productive and innovative careers.

“They should take the same lesson that an element of the business community took in the 1920s,” said Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies. He added:They saw the political changes related to [1920s] anarchism … and immigration, and they concluded that it might be worth paying a nickel an hour more [in wages] to have American workers instead of these kinds of political consequences. Obviously, the nickel an hour doesn’t apply anymore here, but it’s the same concept: cheap [migrant] labor not only creates a lot of welfare costs and political costs.

KEY OBSERVATIONS

For many observers, the interstellar object known as 3I/ATLAS seemed to fade from relevance after its closest pass by Earth in December 2025.

But according to a new scientific analysis, the object is entering a short-lived geometric alignment that could unlock information humanity has never before obtained from interstellar material.

And the timing matters, because this moment arrives just ahead of 3I/ATLAS’s rare approach toward Jupiter in March 2026, a region already under intense scrutiny by NASA and international space agencies.

A fleeting January alignment may reveal what this interstellar visitor is truly made of, just weeks before it begins a historic approach toward Jupiter and its ocean-bearing moons.

A newly published research note by astrophysicist Avi Loeb, co-authored with Italian astronomer Mauro Barbieri, argues that 3I/ATLAS is about to enter an observational sweet spot that may not repeat for decades.

On January 22, 2026, Earth, the Sun, and 3I/ATLAS will line up with unusual precision. From our vantage point, Earth will pass almost directly between the Sun and the interstellar object.

This geometry, known as a near-opposition alignment, creates a rare lighting condition that allows astronomers to measure how dust around the object reflects sunlight when shadows effectively disappear.

To the average reader, this might sound abstract. In simple terms, it’s like standing directly between a flashlight and a dusty mirror. When the angles line up just right, hidden details suddenly become visible.

This phenomenon is called an “opposition surge.” It’s a brief but measurable jump in brightness that happens when dust grains stop casting shadows on one another and, at extremely small angles, when light waves reinforce each other on the way back to the observer.

The result is a glow that carries clues about the dust itself.

Why does that matter? Because 3I/ATLAS is not from our solar system.

Discovered on July 1, 2025, by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System, publicly available orbital data confirm that 3I/ATLAS is traveling on a sharply hyperbolic path.

Its speed relative to the Sun — nearly 58 kilometers per second — far exceeds that of the two previously confirmed interstellar visitors, ‘Oumuamua and Borisov.

According to trajectory data released through NASA’s JPL Horizons system, it did not originate here and will not remain.

Interstellar objects are scientific time capsules. They carry material formed around other stars, under conditions we cannot recreate or sample directly.

Yet until now, astronomers have struggled to study their dust in detail. ‘Oumuamua showed no clear dust at all, and Borisov was never observed under lighting conditions close enough to opposition to trigger a measurable surge.

3I/ATLAS changes that.

For nearly a full week surrounding January 22, 2026, its alignment angle will remain below two degrees — an unusually long window in astronomical terms.

During that time, astronomers can track subtle changes in brightness that reveal whether the dust grains are dark and carbon-rich, bright and icy, tightly packed, or loosely clumped like cosmic lint.

Argentina Logs Lowest Year-End Inflation in Eight Years

Argentina’s yearly inflation in 2025 came in at 31.5 percent — the lowest in eight years – the National Institute of Statistics and Census of Argentina (INDEC) announced Tuesday. INDEC, a decentralized entity within the Argentine Economy Ministry, is tasked with measuring Argentina’s monthly inflation rates.

The announcement of Argentina achieving its lowest yearly inflation rate in nearly a decadecame alongside INDEC’s detailed monthly inflation report for December 2025, which the institution measured at 2.8 percent.

The Argentine Economy Ministry published accompanied the announcement with a chart comparing2025’s yearly 31.5 percent inflationrate with previous years — in which2024’s 117.8 percent, 2023’s 211.4 percent, and 2022’s 94.8percent notably stand as the years with the highest measured yearly inflation rates in recent times.

In a social media post, Economy Minister Luis Caputo explained that 2025 ended with thelowest inflation in the past eight years, both in general and core inflation. Caputo described it asan “extraordinary achievement” and said it was accomplished within a context of price readjustment in Argentina, the implementation of a floating exchange rate, and other economic factors.

“The stabilization program based on fiscal surplus, strict control of the money supply, and capitalization of the [Argentine Central Bank] will continue to be the pillars for continuing the disinflation process,” Caputo wrote.“It is increasingly clear that this is the only viable path to definitively eradicate inflation and make Argentina great again,” he continued.

President Javier Milei praised Caputo, who is commonly referred to with the nickname “Toto,” as “The greatest” in a brief social media post.

“Inflation in 2025 was 31.5 percent, the lowest in the last 8 years.When we took office, inflation in 2023 had been 211.4 percent, the highest in the world,” Manuel Adorni, Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers of Argentina, wrote on social media.

Last week, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent announced that Argentina has already repaid the United States the $2.5 billion it drew down from a $20 billion swap line President Milei signed with the administration of President Donald Trump.

Although December’s measured 2.8 percent monthly inflation rate stands higher than November’s 2.5 percent according to INDEC’s statistics, Sebastián Menescaldi, president of Argentine finantial monitor company Eco Go, explained to the local newspaper La Nación on Tuesday that the increase in inflation during December was mainly due to the readjustment of meat and fuel prices, both of which contributed nearly one additional percentage point to the consumer price indices.

“This poses a challenge for the government due to its immediate impact, but at the same time it provides some reassurance, as these are one-off increases associated with a price adjustment in key components of the basket that had lagged behind in the run-up to the elections,” Menescaldi reportedly said.

“The challenge is to make the macroeconomic regime more sustainable and return to the downward path of inflation; regional experience shows that this is not a quick process,” Claudio Caprarulo, director of Argentine consulting firm Analytica explained to La Nación.

Elon Musk told a crowd at SpaceX’s Texas facility that he wants to turn “Star Trek” into reality. Speaking just days before the new series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy premieres on Paramount+, Musk said his goal is to make science fiction real.

During his short presentation, Musk described a future with huge spaceships carrying people to the Moon, other planets, and even distant star systems.

He added, “We have spaceships going through space — big spaceships — with people going to other planets, going to the Moon and ultimately going beyond our star system to other star systems where we may meet aliens or discover long-dead alien civilizations.

I don’t know, but we want to go, and we want to see what’s happening, and we want to have epic, futuristic spaceships with lots of people in them traveling to places we’ve never been to before.”

Musk’s speech took place at a podium labeled “THE ARSENAL OF FREEDOM” while Alice Cooper’s No More Mr. Nice Guy played in the background.

He also welcomed the audience to Starbase, Texas, previously known as Boca Chica Village.

“This is a city — it’s actually legally a city — that, thanks to the hard work of the SpaceX team, we built out of nothing and is now a gigantic rocket manufacturing system,” Musk said.

“For people out there who are curious to see it, we’re actually on a public highway, so you can come and visit and drive down the road and see the epic hardware.”

Before discussing his Star Trek vision, Musk gave Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and other Pentagon leaders a tour of the factory.

He highlighted the manufacturing there as essential for America’s strength, before joking about the public perception of Space Force.

“That’s the goal,” Musk said with a laugh before passing the mic to Hegseth. “And that’s what I think the public thinks of Space Force.”

Musk’s comments continue his pattern of bold statements linking SpaceX’s real-world missions to iconic science fiction, inspiring fans and critics alike with visions of humanity traveling across the stars.
