The elephant in the room:

There have now been 1.2 MILLION job cuts announced in 2025. And, 60% of Americans say we are in a recession.

Yet, the S&P 500 has added +$17 TRILLION since April, nearing its 29th record high of 2025.

What's happening? Let us explain.

US layoffs currently set to match levels seen in the 2008 Financial Crisis.

US employers have announced 1,170,821 job cuts in 2025, the 2nd-highest total in 16 years.

In November, US employers announced 71,321 job cuts.

This is the 3rd HIGHEST monthly total ever recorded.

And, it's impacting ALL demographics.

Unemployed Americans with 4-year college degrees now make up a record 25.3% of total unemployment.

The percentage has doubled since the 2008 Crisis and is above 2020 levels.

The US labor market is weakening across all education levels.

This explains why surveys show that the MAJORITY of Americans think we are in a recession.

68% of those surveyed say inflation and rising cost of living tops the list of reasons why they believe we are in a recession.

50% say family members are complaining about money.

However, the data says otherwise.

There is currently just a 33% chance that the US economy enters a recession by 2027, per Polymarket.

Odds are down ~11% percentage points since October 2025 and at their lowest level yet.

The data says we are NOT in or near a recession.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 is seeing one of its best runs in history.

The market just posted its 6th 35%+ rally in 6 months over the last 30+ years.

While Wall Street sees historic gains, most Americans think the stock market is DOWN.

So, why is there such a massive disconnect?

Data shows that US GDP grew by +3.8% YoY in Q2 2025, and +1.6% in the first half of 2025, far above contractionary territory.

However, ~63% of that growth came from AI-related spending.

In other words, without AI spending, the economy is running FAR weaker than it seems.

This chart says it all.

Spending on data centers in the US has TRIPLED since the release of ChatGPT in November 2022.

Spending on structures excluding data centers is down ~20% since the 2023 high.

The strength of technology companies has created 2 "economies" in the US.

This is why we see another Fed rate cut this week, their 3rd cut of 2025.

American consumers are struggling from a rapidly declining labor market.

Yet, the largest US companies are thriving as AI explodes, and rate cuts will add fuel to the fire.

All as inflation runs at 3%+.

We see more record highs ahead for the S&P 500.

Why? Because the biggest companies don't need rate cuts, but consumers do and they are coming.

The top 10% of US stocks now account for a record 76% of the US market.

These stocks will push the S&P 500 to 7000+ in our view.

U.S. military officials joined leaders from all 10 nations of the Combined Space Operations Initiative at the new French Space Command Headquarters this week, where they reaffirmed the strength and relevance of CSpO to deterrence, interoperability, and space warfighting capability.

The CSpO Initiative unites the 10 sovereign spacefaring nations of Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, the United Kingdom and the U.S.

Led by U.S. Gen. Chance Saltzman, Chief of Space Operations, U.S. Space Force; U.S. Gen. Stephen Whiting, commander, U.S. Space Command and commander, Multinational Force Operation Olympic Defender; and Robert Brose, deputy assistant Secretary of War for Space and Missile Defense, currently performing the duties of Assistant Secretary of War for Space Policy; the U.S. delegation underscored its commitment to defend U.S. interests in and through space.

The U.S. further reaffirmed the importance that the U.S. places on partnership with the CSpO nations, both on earth and on orbit.

"Our opponents are moving at jaw-dropping speed, and we must match that pace with integrated coalition capabilities that deter aggression and defend our interests," said Whiting.

Reflecting Secretary of War Pete Hegseth's guidance to restore a warfighting ethos, the U.S. delegation charged the CSpO Initiative to focus on pragmatic methods to enhance and sustain space power in the face of growing threats; ensure policy and plans reflect the best understanding of the challenges at hand; and further expand the robust operational cooperation in space that CSpO delivers.

"We are building a coalition capable of addressing the challenges of a contested space environment," said Saltzman. "To be effective, we must collaborate on our architectures, integrate our training, exercises, and operations, and build a common understanding of the threats we face."

Understanding the role space plays in providing security and prosperity for the American people, and on the ongoing increase in space threats, the U.S. delegation outlined areas where U.S. and CSpO member interests could be at risk.

These included U.S. commercial access to space, and the threat of an orbital environment in which unacceptable levels of orbital debris or weapons of mass destruction are present.

"Just as our military defends our freedom, rights, and interests on earth, the military of the United States of America will protect and defend our freedom, rights and interests in space," said Brose.

The 10 nations renewed their commitment to operate responsibly in space and to challenge those who do not. As the CSpO Initiative continues to evolve, its focus will remain on ensuring warfighters are ready and able to deter conflict, defeat enemies, and prevail in space.

Ukrainian drones destroy 70% of fuel tanks at Russia's Temryuk Seaport, General Staff says

Ukrainian forces destroyed 20 fuel tanks — 70% of the total — in a drone strike on Russia's Temryuk Seaport in Krasnodar Krai on Dec. 5, the General Staff reported Dec. 8.

The Dec. 5 attack sparked a large fire at the Temryuk Seaport, a facility that handles various types of cargo, including liquefied natural gas used to supply the Russian military.

The Krasnodar Krai Operational Headquarters confirmed that the port sustained damage from the drone strikes.

The fire continues to burn at the liquefied gas loading rack, where roughly two dozen rail tanks are stationed. As of the evening of Dec. 7, the fire had spread across nearly 1,000 square meters, according to the General Staff.

Ukrainian forces targeted multiple sites in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories overnight on Dec. 8, the General Staff added.

Strikes hit an ammunition depot near the village of Chmyrivka in Luhansk Oblast and a drone depot in the city of Donetsk in Donetsk Oblast.

Ukrainian forces also struck a fuel and lubricants depot near the Simeykine settlement in Luhansk Oblast, as well as a mobile fire group and a Pantsir-S1 air defense system in Donetsk Oblast.

The consequences of the strikes and the full extent of the damage are still being assessed, according to the report.

Ukraine has routinely targeted oil facilities in Russia and in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories in an effort to disrupt Moscow's military logistics and supply lines.

Britain Unveils “Atlantic Bastion”—AI Drone Wall to Counter Russia Under the Sea

Britain is set to deploy a new multi-layered underwater surveillance and anti-submarine warfare network known as Atlantic Bastion, a programme described as a major step in reshaping how the Royal Navy secures the seabed and critical infrastructure, according to UK Defence Journal on December 8.

The initiative links autonomous surface and subsurface vessels, AI-enabled sensor grids, and existing naval and air platforms.

During a visit to Portsmouth, Defence Secretary John Healey framed the programme as a cornerstone of the Strategic Defence Review’s push to “rapidly innovate at a wartime pace.”

Healey warned, “People should be in no doubt of the new threats facing the UK and our allies under the sea, where adversaries are targeting infrastructure that is so critical to our way of life.”

He added that “This new era of threat demands a new era for defence.”

The UK Defence Journal notes Atlantic Bastion has emerged against the backdrop of increased Russian underwater activity, including operations by the intelligence-gathering ship Yantar near UK waters.

Healey called the effort “a blueprint for the future of the Royal Navy”, combining autonomous systems, AI and existing fleets “to detect, deter and defeat those who threaten us.”

British defence intelligence has assessed that Moscow aims to modernise its submarine fleet in ways that increase the risk to undersea cables, energy links, and pipelines—assets that power Europe, carry global financial data, and underpin NATO communications.

According to the UK Defence Journal, Atlantic Bastion is designed to counter that shift through a fused network of crewed warships, submarines, unmanned platforms, and distributed acoustic sensors powered by AI analytics.

Industry uptake has been significant. UK Defence Journal reporting states the government has already allocated £14 million in seed funding, with private sector investment matching at a four-to-one ratio.

Twenty-six companies have submitted new sensor designs, and twenty firms are demonstrating early systems, some of which are expected to enter water trials next year.

The First Sea Lord, General Sir Gwyn Jenkins, is expected to expand on how Atlantic Bastion fits into a broader maritime future at the International Sea Power Conference.

In his remarks, he argues the maritime domain is “increasingly vulnerable” and that “maritime security is a strategic imperative for the UK. It is time to act.”

He calls Atlantic Bastion “our bold new approach to secure the underwater battlespace against a modernising Russia” and a “revolutionary underwater network—more autonomous, more resilient, more lethal and British built.”

Jenkins adds, “We’ve already made rapid and significant progress with delivering Atlantic Bastion—a force that keeps us secure at home and strong abroad.”

The programme also showcases capabilities under development by UK-based and international defence firms, a trend repeatedly highlighted by the UK Defence Journal.

Dr. Rich Drake of Anduril UK said the government had challenged the industry “to create the modern warfighter,” adding that its Seabed Sentry project reflects investment in “British talent, British technology and Britain’s tomorrow.”

BAE Systems and Helsing have made similar statements, pitching autonomy and AI as the decisive factors in future underwater warfare.

Helsing’s Amelia Gould told the UK Defence Journal the company stands ready to help “create a sea drone wall to protect NATO.”

Officials say Atlantic Bastion represents early delivery against the Strategic Defence Review and could support the UK’s growing hybrid-navy industrial base.

The challenge now, they argue, lies in successfully integrating naval, air and digital assets into a real-time sensor-to-shooter system spanning the North Atlantic—one designed not to react to threats but to anticipate them.

Earlier, the Swedish navy said it was encountering Russian submarines in the Baltic Sea on an almost weekly basis and is bracing for even more activity if Russia’s war against Ukraine moves toward a ceasefire or armistice.

American and international staff at the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Center in Kiryat Gat have raised concerns over Israeli representatives allegedly covertly and overtly conducting surveillance at the center, according to a report by The Guardian, citing anonymous sources briefed on the issue.

According to the sources, Israeli intelligence gathering at the center – which is tasked with monitoring the Gaza ceasefire and hosts representatives from dozens of countries and organizations – led the US commander of the base, Lt. Gen. Patrick Frank, to meet with an Israeli counterpart, warning him that “recording has to stop here.”

The IDF declined to comment to The Guardian on Frank’s alleged demand to halt recording, noting that conversations within the CMCC are unclassified.

“The IDF documents and summarizes meetings in which it is present through protocols, as any professional organization of this nature does in a transparent and agreed-upon manner,” the Israeli military tells the British newspaper in a statement.

“The claim that the IDF is gathering intelligence on its partners in meetings in which the IDF is an active participant is absurd,” the statement adds.

Additional staff and foreign visitors at the CMCC have also “raised concerns about Israel recording” inside the center, the report continues, saying that some have been urged not to share sensitive information to avoid the risk it could be “collected and exploited.”

The US military declined to comment to The Guardian on the alleged Israeli surveillance activities.

WHO says 114 people were killed, including 63 children, in last week’s drone strikes in Sudan

CAIRO (AP) — The head of the World Health Organization said Monday that the death toll from drone strikes on a kindergarten and other sites in Sudan’s Kordofan state last week is now at 114 people, including 63 children.

WHO said that there were three separate drone strikes on Kagoli last Thursday. The first targeted the kindergarten and the subsequent strikes targeted paramedics as they were transporting the survivors, and a hospital.

The death toll wasn’t immediately clear at the time, in part because of communications outages.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X that the organization “deplores these senseless attacks on civilians and health facilities, and calls again for an end to the violence, and increased access to humanitarian aid, including health.”

The Sudan Doctor’s Network and Emergency Lawyers, groups that track violence against civilians in Sudan, blamed the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, for the strikes.

In a statement Saturday, Emergency Lawyers called the attack “a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians, especially children, and vital civilian infrastructure.”

RSF and the Sudanese military have been engaged in a war since 2023. More than 40,000 people have been killed, according to WHO, and 12 million others displaced. However, aid groups warn that the true death toll is likely far higher.

The battle is now concentrating on the oil-rich Kordofan region, after RSF took over the last military stronghold, el-Fasher, in Darfur, in western Sudan.

The RSF takeover of el-Fasher has been mired with violence. There have been reports of executions of civilians, rapes and sexual assaults, and other atrocities.

More than 100,000 people have fled since the takeover, according to the International Organization for Migration.

U.N. human rights chief Volker Türk warned last week that Kordofan could face new atrocities like those in el-Fasher.

The humanitarian situation in the Kordofan region is worsening as famine is also spreading after more than two years of the devastating war.

Famine was declared last month in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan. Dilling, also in South Kordofan, has reportedly experienced the same hunger conditions as Kadugli.

RSF announced Monday that it took control of the area of Heglig in South Kordofan from the Sudanese military.

Heglig hosts the largest oil processing facility in Sudan, and is a key facility in processing oil coming from South Sudan. Oil from landlocked South Sudan has to pass through Sudan for export.

In November, RSF drone attacks on two key oil installations, including Helglig, forced a temporary emergency shutdown, halting production and export from South Sudan.

A military official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to talk to journalists, acknowledged the RSF’s takeover of the oil facility.

He said that military forces withdrew to avoid further destruction there.

Clashes erupt along Thai-Cambodian border

Thailand carried out airstrikes in Cambodia on Monday, as the two Southeast Asian neighbors accused each other of violating a US-brokered ceasefire.

In July, the countries saw a border dispute dating back over half a century escalate into violence. US President Donald Trump, however, was able to mediate a truce after five days of fighting.

The Royal Thai Army has said new clashes first erupted on Sunday and accused Cambodian troops of opening fire at Thai soldiers in eastern Ubon Ratchathani province. One Thai soldier was killed and four others were wounded, after which additional Thai soldiers were attacked with artillery and drones at Anupong Base, the army said.

Royal Thai Air Force spokesman Air Marshal Jackkrit Thammavichai announced later on Monday that F-16 fighter jets were deployed to “reduce Cambodia’s military capabilities to the minimum level necessary to safeguard national security and protect civilians.”

Cambodian Defense Ministry spokeswoman Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said late on Sunday that Thai troops had carried out several attacks on Cambodian positions using small arms, mortars, and tanks.

“The Thai side also falsely accused Cambodia without any basis, despite the fact that Cambodian forces did not retaliate at all,” she said. The ministry also denied Thai claims of a military buildup along the border.

The border dispute dates back to colonial times, when France, which ruled Cambodia until 1953, mapped the lines between the two countries. The July conflict left dozens of people dead and displaced more than 200,000 on both sides.

A federal judge has dealt a setback to Justice Department efforts to seek a new indictment against former FBI Director James Comey, temporarily barring prosecutors from using evidence they had relied on when they initially secured criminal charges.

In a decisive blow to cross-border narco-smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) carried out multiple successful operations along the Punjab border, seizing a major consignment of heroin, opium, and a drone equipped with pistol parts.

According to the BSF release, late last night, following reports of suspected aerial movement, BSF teams conducted a thorough search in agricultural fields near Daoke village, Amritsar.

The operation led to the recovery of two large packets of heroin weighing a combined 6.641 kilograms, wrapped in yellow adhesive tape with illuminating sticks and metal loops attached.
