It was reported this afternoon, Sunday, November 27, that armed men stormed the Villa Rose hotel in the Somali capital, Mogadishu. The facility is located between Godka Jilacow Prison and the National Theatre. Gunshots and two explosions are heard.
According to a tweet @HussienM12 outside, independent journalist Hussein Mohamed, of the militant group Al Shabab, has claimed responsibility for the attack. Earlier it reported that a suspected suicide bomber blew himself up in front of the hotel.
The hotel appears to be regularly frequented by government officials, and Somalia's Minister of Internal Security is believed to have been injured in the attack. According to reports, other senior ministers are also trapped in the facility.
