US backs Israeli invasion of Syria

The IDF’s advance past the Golan Heights will prevent terrorists from taking over the border area, according to the State Department

Washington has defended Israel’s military incursion into Syria, with State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stressing that the operation is in self-defense. At a press briefing on Monday, Miller claimed that the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) advance to the Syrian side of the Golan Heights was done to prevent Syrian-based militants from taking over the border areas and launching an offensive into Israel in the future.

Israeli troops moved into the demilitarized buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights on Sunday, after Syrian opposition forces seized Damascus and forced former President Bashar Assad to flee the country. On Monday, Israeli forces moved beyond the buffer zone and into Syria proper, with Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz saying they intend to create a new “security area” there that would be clear of “heavy strategic weapons and terrorist infrastructure.”

According to Miller, by abandoning its positions in the area around the buffer zone, the Syrian Army “potentially created a vacuum” that could be filled by terrorist organizations.

“That would threaten the state of Israel and would threaten civilians inside Israel. Every country has the right to take action against terrorist organizations,” Miller stated, adding that “ultimately, it’s important that there is security along that border,” which, according to him, the Israeli military can now ensure.

Miller noted, however, that Washington expects the Israeli occupation to be temporary.

“This is a temporary action that they have taken in response to actions by the Syrian military to withdraw from that area… We want to see the 1974 disengagement agreement upheld, and that includes the terms of the buffer zones, which includes Israel withdrawing to its previous positions,” he stated, referring to Israel’s 1974 agreement with Syria to establish a demilitarized strip in the Golan Heights.

Miller’s words run counter to remarks made earlier by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. While West Jerusalem told the UN Security Council that its incursion into Syria is a “limited and temporary measure” at a press conference on Monday night, Netanyahu declared that “the Golan Heights will forever be an inseparable part of the state of Israel.” He previously argued that Israel’s disengagement agreement with Syria effectively “collapsed” once Syrian troops “abandoned their positions” in the buffer zone.

The UN has criticized Israel for the incursion, saying it violates the disengagement agreement and stressing that “there should be no military forces or activities in the area of separation.” A number of Middle Eastern countries have also condemned Israel’s advance past the Golan Heights, accusing West Jerusalem of orchestrating an illegal land grab. In a statement on Monday, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry slammed the move as “a blatant attack on Syria’s sovereignty and unity” and “a flagrant violation of international law.” Similar remarks were made by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.

Army Secretary Christine Wormuth in a dramatic and rare move on Tuesday fired one of the service's top generals following an Army inspector general investigation that concluded he improperly intervened in the process for selecting senior commanders.

Gen. Charles Hamilton, who had been the head of Army Materiel Command, was removed after what officials described as a flagrant abuse of authority aimed at securing a leadership role for a subordinate officer who was found unfit for command and had an inappropriate relationship with the general, according to the IG report.

The move marks the first time in nearly 20 years an Army four-star general has been outright fired and comes after a Military.com investigation in March detailed how he attempted to intervene on behalf of the subordinate officer. The publication's report earlier this year immediately triggered both his suspension from the command leadership position and the inspector general probe.

The lieutenant colonel scored in the bottom 1% out of about 800 candidates for command, failing the initial BCAP panel in a 0-5 vote after being found to be an "ineffective" leader.

After his subordinate failed the BCAP assessment, Hamilton sought and was successful in getting her an unusual second consideration by the panel – a situation that has never happened in the program's history since it began in 2019, aside from instances involving technical or administrative snafus.

Jimmy Theo Patronis Jr. (born April 13, 1972) is an American politician and the current chief financial officer of the state of Florida. He previously served as a member of the Florida Public Service Commission from 2015 to 2017, a member of the Florida House of Representatives representing the 6th district, which includes Panama City and other parts of southern Bay County, from 2006 to 2014, and as a member of the Florida Elections Commission from 1998 to 2003.[4] He is a member of the Republican Party.

Patronis is a candidate in the 2025 Florida's 1st congressional district special election.[a][5] His candidacy has been endorsed by President-elect Donald Trump.[6]

Early life and education

Patronis was born in Panama City, Florida on April 13, 1972. Patronis attended Gulf Coast Community College, where he graduated with his associate degree in restaurant management in 1994, and Florida State University, where he graduated with his bachelor degree in political science in 1996.[7] While at Florida State University, Patronis worked as an intern in the Florida Senate and the House of Commons of the United Kingdom.[8]

After graduation, in 1998, he was appointed by Governor Lawton Chiles to the Florida Elections Commission and again in 2001 by Governor Jeb Bush where he served until 2003.Patronis also served as chairman of the Bay County Airport Authority from 2004 to 2006.[9]

prepare yourself. it makes a hell of a lot of sense. I asked specififly, if a .rip file could be a video file. and chatGPT explained me why not. But then it came up with a hell of an explanation why somebody (e.g. Anthony Weiner) would manually CHANGE the ending of the video file to .rip

It also hid the file in the search for videos and it did not generate a thumb in the browser. It just sat there as an innocent .rip file. To watch it, he switched the ending into .avi or mp4 or else. all by hand.

Please tell me this does not make sense.

The White House threatened to veto once-bipartisan legislation to expand the federal judiciary for the first time in decades, joining congressional Democrats who have turned against the bill following President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.

In a statement of administration policy released Tuesday, the Biden administration said it opposes the Senate-passed bill (S. 4199) to add dozens of federal trial court judges, in phases, over the next decade to help courts facing ballooning caseloads.

The legislation would represent the first broad expansion of the courts since 1990, and the first time any additional permanent judgeship has been authorized in over two decades.

The White House said the bill is “unnecessary to the efficient and effective administration of justice.”

“The bill would create new judgeships in states where Senators have sought to hold open existing judicial vacancies,” the statement said. “Those efforts to hold open vacancies suggest that concerns about judicial economy and caseload are not the true motivating force behind passage of this bill now.”
