Internal investigations announced after officers yelled offensive statement at Jerusalem anti-government demonstrator, manhandled Labor’s Naama Lazimi at Tel Aviv hostage rally

The Department for Internal Police Investigations (DIPI) said Sunday it had opened probes into a police officer who was filmed telling a demonstrator that he would rape his mother, and other officers who clashed with a lawmaker.

In a statement, the DIPI said it would contact the protester and Labor MK Naama Lazimi, and that the incidents would be investigated in depth.

At the weekly protest at Jerusalem’s Paris Square, near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s official residence on Saturday evening, an officer was filmed cursing and threatening a protester he detained, telling him “I’ll rape your mother” and calling him a “son of a bitch.”

DIPI also said it was investigating officers who were filmed in a confrontation with Lazimi at a protest in Tel Aviv.

Lazimi was shoved and grabbed by police officers, despite the parliamentary immunity granted to her as a Knesset member.

Why it matters:The intermittent access has resulted in many current and former White House aides being shocked at the 81-year-old president's limitations at the debate Thursday night.

Driving the news:Current and former White House aides are feeling whiplash — and now questioning whether Biden could fulfill a second term.

• "It's time for Joe to go." That's what Chandler West, the White House's deputy director of photography from January 2021 to May 2022, wrote in an Instagram story after the debate.

• "I know many of these people and how the White House operates. They will say he has a 'cold' or just experienced a 'bad night,' but for weeks and months, in private, they have all said what we saw last night — Joe is not as strong as he was just a couple of years ago," West wrote, according to screenshots obtained by Axios.

• Reached by phone, West said he wrote the post because "the debate was not the first bad day, and it's not gonna be the last." He declined to comment further.

The president and his team have acknowledged Biden had a bad night but said he had a cold.

Zoom in:Biden's behavior stunned many in the White House in part because Biden's closest aides — often led by Jill Biden's top aide, Anthony Bernal, and deputy chief of staff Annie Tomasini — took steps early in his term to essentially rope off the president.

• Even the White House's residence staff, which serves the first family in the mansion's living quarters, has been kept at arm's length.

• A former residence official told Axios that Jill Biden was "so protective of the president, and then Anthony just protects her, and they often wouldn't let us do anything for them."

• "The separation between the family and the residence staff was so big, so divided," the former official said. "It's not supposed to be and usually isn't, even in the Trump White House."

• A White House official said the president "is deeply appreciative of the residence staff's work, but is unused to being waited on regularly or having butlers, so some staff are often allowed to go home early."

• On July 4, 2021, Biden hosted a party on the South Lawn in which he declared "independence" from the coronavirus pandemic.

• It was a hot day and after hours outside, Biden went back into the White House through the Diplomatic Room, and then into the nearby Map Room.

• Biden sat down and the door was abruptly shut as Biden's aides blocked the White House butlers and residence staff from aiding the president.

They suggested to the staffersthat the president was just a little overheated. But the episode left residence staff feeling like his close aides were creating a barrier around anything possibly related to the president's health, the former official said.

• Asked about the incident, the White House official told Axios: "There are many reasons for presidents to need some staff to leave the room at any time, because they often deal with sensitive information."

Between the lines: Shielding Biden was a safe and obvious move during COVID. But some within the White House have felt that some of those habits have lingered long afterward.

• White House spokesperson Andrew Bates told Axios: "In every administration, there are individuals who would prefer to spend more time with the President and senior officials. President Biden fights hard for families every day, working with a wide range of team members at what he is proud is the most diverse White House ever - and achieving historic results for the American people because of his determination, values, and experience."

The Biden-Harris campaign is desperately trying to find a way to spin Joe Biden's disastrous debate performance, and has somehow landed on cherrypicking data that suggests the debate had no impact on the race, and then blaming the media for any dip in the polls he may experience.

"It’s a familiar story: Following Thursday night’s debate, the beltway class is counting Joe Biden out,"Biden campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon writes. "The data in the battleground states, though, tells a different story. On every metric that matters, data shows it did nothing to change the American people’s perception, our supporters are more fired up than ever, and Donald Trump only reminded voters of why they fired him four years ago and failed to expand his appeal beyond his MAGA base."

Then there's this gem:

Flash polls from CNN, 538, SurveyUSA, Morning Consult, and Data for Progress show what we expected: The debate did not change the horse race. This mirrors what the campaign’s internal post-debate polling showed: The president maintained his support among his 2020 voters and voters' opinions were not changed.

The truth is, it can often take a couple of weeks to see what impact, if any, an event will have on public opinion. So, immediate post-debate polls aren't going to tell the whole story. Nice try though. O’Malley Dillon then pointed to the campaign's own internal polling.

Following the debate, our internal dials showed President Biden led Trump on key measures of being presidential, speaking to the issues that matter, and being likable by more than 20 points. Dials showed that independent voters were turned off by Trump’s personal attacks, and had deep negative feelings when Trump talked about January 6, his support for Putin, and refusing to lay out his vision for America. Our internal poll confirmed the dials: Trump's performance left independent voters feeling less confident about his position on reproductive rights and abortion, respect for the Constitution and rule of law, and truthfulness.

Oh, but this wasn't even the worst part of the memo. According to O’Malley Dillon, even though she says that the metrics that matter were all super awesome for Joe Biden, "If we do see changes in polling in the coming weeks, it will not be the first time that overblown media narratives have driven temporary dips in the polls."

In 2012, we saw media coverage of President Obama's first debate performance drive a large, but temporary, drop in his polling – driven almost entirely by fewer Democrats answering polls in the days after the debate, rather than true changes in support.

It's true that Barack Obama had a terrible first debate against Mitt Romney in 2012. I remember watching it and thinking that Mitt Romney had that election in the bag after that. Of course, Obama eventually recovered with an improved debate performance in their next faceoff. But, here's the problem: The issue of Joe Biden's performance wasn't the same as Barack Obama's. Barack Obama was clearly unprepared for the debate. Joe Biden spent an entire week off from being president, preparing. Being unprepared for a debate is something that is not impossible to recover form. Joe Biden has to prove to the entire nation that he isn't too physically frail and cognitively impaired to be president. Good luck.

And the Biden campaign is basically saying that if Biden sees a dip in the polls, it's not because he bombed the debate, but rather it's the media's fault. Can you believe that? Polls have been saying for months—heck, years now—that most voters think Biden is too old and frail to be president, and the debate is only the latest thing to make that abundantly clear. The media has been doing everything it can to cover up Biden's cognitive decline; as recently as last week, the media was pushing the "cheap fakes" line.

CNN’s Dana Bash confronted Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) — a longtime ally of President Joe Biden’s — about whether Biden should stay in the race in the wake of Thursday night’s debate. (Which Clyburn himself deemed a “bad performance.”) But the South Carolina congressman fired back by criticizing the lack of fact-checking during the debate — which Bash co-moderated with Jake Tapper.

In a tense interview on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday, Bash pressed Clyburn about whether President Biden, 81, is able to carry out his duties through January 2029 — should he win in the fall.

“Are you saying you have absolutely no concerns about JoeBiden’s ability not only to win in November,but to be the leader of the free world for the next four years?”Bash asked.

“I do not believe that Joe Biden has a problem leading for the next four yearsbecause he’s done a great job of leading for the last three-and-a-half years,” Clyburn replied.

Bash followed up by asking the congressman to address concerns stemming from the debate — even from within his own party.

“What about his performance on Thursday, though, sir?” Bash asked.

“Do you understand why some Democrats, some independents who are not that interested in voting forDonald Trumpand were considering voting for Joe Biden look at that and say ‘I just don’t see it. I don’t want to vote for him.’ What do you say to them?”

“I would say to them, take into account the record,” Clyburn said. “Yes, it was a bad performance. I’ve been around these things. I’ve been a part of debate preparation before, and I know when I see what I call preparation overload. And that’s exactly what was going on. The other night, I saw Joe Biden grabbing for words and phrases and even numbers that he was loaded up with. The next day, he gets to North Carolina, he’s freewheeling, and he captivated the audience.”

“I believe on Friday in North Carolina, he had a teleprompter,”Bash noted.

The CNN anchor then asked if there will be another debate between Trump and Biden. Clyburn responded that he didn’t know, but believes Biden would do well, should that second debate take place. He then complained about how the first debate was run to Bash — who helped run it.

“I don’t like the debate where nobody will do any fact-checking,” Clyburn said. “You just say what you want to say. You know it’s a lie. The guy told 30 some odd lies! And nobody checked him on it! And said that was up to Joe Biden to do it. I’m not too sure. If I ask you a question, and you lie to me with the answer, I ought to follow up, and give you what the facts are. and see what your reaction to that would be. So that, to me, was not the way to plan the debate. And whoever, did that, agree to that, really should think about what they’re doing.”

Bash noted that the Biden campaign was on board with the debate rules.

“Well, it was a debate agreed to by President Biden,” she said, “who first who proposed this, this debate.”

Chikli calls on Newsom, Bass, to protect Californian Jews

Chikli said that while his ministry appreciated the statements and condemnations issued by California politicians in response to such incidents, he felt that proactive steps were needed.

Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli in a Tuesday letter called on California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to protect the state's Jewish population in the face of violent anti-Israel and antisemitic incidents.

"I write to you with deep concern regarding the escalating antisemitism in Los Angeles since October 7, 2023, and the troubling response from law enforcement," Chikli said to Newsom and Bass.

"In addition to the violent demonstrations and encampments that have plagued college campuses, posing a serious threat to the safety of Jewish students studying in California, two particularly alarming incidents of violent antisemitism have occurred in Los Angeles."

Chikli criticized LA Law enforcement and city officials for failing to prepare for a protest at the Adas Torah synagogue, despite having foreknowledge of a protest last Sunday. A demonstration of an Israeli real estate event by anti-Israel activists at the Pico-Robertson synagogue devolved into a riot. Jewish community members were beaten and sprayed with bear mace.

Another incident that concerned Chikli was the killing of Paul Kessler, who was struck on the head at a pro-Israel protest in November.

PARIS — France on Sunday took a step closer to delivering what was once seen as an unthinkable nightmare: a far-right government taking power in Paris for the first time.

Marine Le Pen’s National Rally made big gains in the first round of a snap election that could upend political orthodoxy across Europe and beyond, with implications for markets and global security that will be hard to predict.

According to early estimates by pollsters Ipsos, the far-right National Rally is on course to win 34 percent of Sunday’s vote while French President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist alliance suffered staggering losses, coming third with 20.3 percent of vote. The left-wing alliance made a strong showing with 28.1 percent of the vote.

“The French people have shown that they want to draw a line under seven years of [Macron’s] disdainful rule,” said Le Pen, speaking at a party event in the Eastern French town of Hénin-Beaumont. “We haven’t won yet, the second round will be crucial … we need an absolute majority so that Jordan Bardella, in eight days, can be appointed prime minister by Emmanuel Macron,” she added.

According to early projections based on exit polls, Le Pen’s party is expected to get 230-280 seats in the 577-seat national assembly, the left wing alliance 125-165 seats and Macron’s coalition 70-100.

Seat projections however are conjectural at this stage and dependent on political decisions taken in the coming days ahead of the second round of voting on July 7. Macron himself is due to stay in power until the end of his mandate in 2027, regardless of the outcome of this assembly election.

France is voting in a crucial snap election that looks set to have a resounding impact across Europe. The far right is skeptical of France’s role in NATO and the EU and has never been closer to power. If the early estimates are confirmed in later results, Le Pen’s party, now led by the slick 28 year-old Jordan Bardella, stands a good chance of forming a ‘cohabitation’ government under Macron’s presidency.

On Sunday, the French president called for “democratic and republican” forces to unite against Le Pen’s party. “Faced with the [rise of the] National Rally, we need to foster a wide unity that is clearly democratic and republican ahead of the second round,” Macron said, according to a statement from the Elysée Palace. “The high turnout … shows how important the vote was for our fellow citizens, and how they want to clarify the political situation.”

The French president shocked the nation and France’s international allies when he triggered the vote only a couple of weeks before the Olympic Games, after a humiliating defeat in June’s European parliament election.

It was an audacious move designed to stop the far right advance in its tracks by forcing French voters to choose a new parliament.On the strength of the early projections so far, his gamble looks set to fail.

What next?

In constituencies where three candidates have qualified to go through to the second round next Sunday, the third-placed candidate will be under pressure to pull out to defeat the National Rally. It looks likely that Macron will face a tough choice in many areas over whether to withdraw his candidates in an effort to defeat Le Pen’s party.…

Jill Biden is under fire from Democrat donors for refusing to advise the president to pull out of the 2024 presidential race.

The first lady, who has been married to Joe Biden since 1977, was on Sunday due to attend several fundraising events alongside her husband in New York.

But some donors said they were skipping an event in the Hamptons after Mr Biden’s disastrous performance in the first presidential debate on Thursday night.

“Lots of people are blaming his wife… for not telling him [to step aside],”one told the New York Post.

Mrs Biden is considered to be the most influential voice in the president’s tight inner circle.

=•On Friday, she was mocked for saying he did extremely well at the debate== and “answered all the questions” at an ensuing rally.

In private, the school teacher believes that Mr Biden’s debate performance, in which he stumbled over words and repeatedly lost his train of thought, was just a “bad night”, the New York Times reported.

On Saturday,several Silicon Valley “megadonors” were trying to reach the first lady in an attempt to persuade her to convince Mr Biden to end his campaignin favour of a younger candidate, the paper said.

Mr Biden admitted he does not walk as smoothly or debate as well as he “used to” on Friday, but insisted he was still the best candidate to defeat Trump. His aides have since repeated that line.

But in an editorial, theNew York Times called on Mr Biden to stand aside.

“There are Democratic leaders better equipped to present clear, compelling and energetic alternatives to a second Trump presidency,” it said.

In further embarrassment for the president, who would be 86 at the end of his second term, aides told the Axios news website that he is often too tired to work past 4pm and struggles to rise before 10 in the morning.

Democrat officials and donors were on Saturday increasingly angry with Mr Biden’s closest advisers for failing to use their influence with him.

“This is no longer about Joe Biden’s family or his emotions,” one adviser in touch with the White House told Axios. “This is about our country. It’s an utter f—ing disaster that has to be addressed.”

Other longtime Democrat strategists lamented that none of Mr Biden’s most important aides, such as Anita Dunn or Ron Klain, were “peers” of the president who could deliver the unwelcome message he should quit.

Mr Biden could be replaced by his vice president, Kamala Harris, though there are concerns she would prove even less popular than he is. Other options include Gavin Newsom, the charismatic governor of California, though he remains vocally supportive of the president staying in the race.

Experts say it would be virtually impossible for the Democrats to oust Mr Biden at this late stage of the campaign, and that in reality the decision lies solely with the president.

“They’re [Biden’s team] saying, ‘we just had one bad night…what they’re missing, a vital point they’re missing, is it’s not just one bad night. There’s no fixing this,”one Democrat donortold Politico, the US news site.

There is also concern that some Democrat party donors may pull funding if they feel there is no hope of Mr Biden recovering from the debate.

“The biggest problem is donors. If the money dries up, everybody will start to panic,” another source said.

At times the debate on Thursday descended into farce as Mr Biden argued with rival Trump about their golf handicaps and the quality of the Democratic leader’s golf swing. Even on lighter topics, the president had difficulty expressing himself clearly and occasionally drifted off topic completely.

His slack-jawed expression and thin, rasping voice prompted panic in Democrat circles and mockery on social media.

On Saturday, one poll revealed that 60 per cent of US voters believe Mr Biden should drop out of the race.

Increasing numbers of voters don't think Biden should be running after debate with Trump

For months before the first debate, the nation's voters repeatedly expressed doubts over whether President Biden had the cognitive health enough to serve.

Today, those doubts have grown even more: now at nearly three-quarters of the electorate, and now including many within his own party.

And today, after the debate with former President Trump, an increased number of voters, including many Democrats, don't think Mr. Biden should be running for president at all. Nearly half his party doesn't think he should now be the nominee.

The move came across the partisan board, but it includes a double-digit movement among Democrats, and movement among independents.

Given that, today nearly three in four voters also don't think Mr. Biden should be running for president in the first place. That's a higher-percentage sentiment than in February, when almost two-thirds said he should not run.

Most voters who say he shouldn't run say it's both about his campaigning and his effectiveness in office, along with his age.

But Democrats' concerns, when expressed, lean more toward the strategic.They are worried more about his ability to campaign than his decision-making as president.(Are you fucking kidding me?)

Trump, by contrast, finds a wide view among Republicans that he should be running.

That comes as voters widely believe that in the debate, Trump presented his ideas more clearly, appeared more presidential, inspired more confidence, explained his policies better and —quite simply — won the debate.

This is the case, despite the fact that voters overall think Trump was not as truthful.

And it's relative, of course. There are plenty of voters who think neither candidate did well.

Delusional Joe Biden Makes Laughable Claim About Debate at Posh Fundraiser in New Jersey While Smearing President Trump

While Joe Biden’s future as the Democrat Party’s presumptive presidential nominee is uncertain, he remains as demented and delusional as ever.

NJ.com reported Saturday that while at a private Saturday fundraiser in New Jersey hosted by Governor Phil Murphy, Biden admitted to the paltry crowd his debate performance was not up to par and vowed to fight back.

Biden then made a bizarre claim about Thursday’s presidential debate with President Trump that completely contradicts all available facts.

“Research during the debate shows us converting more undecided voters than Trump did, in large part because of his conduct on Jan. 6,” Biden boasted to the 50 attendees. “People remember the bad things during his presidency.”

“The big takeaway was his lies,” he added.

The New York Post notes that this boast from Biden is complete nonsense. Several polls released in the last two days show Biden’s support has dwindled across the board.

Moreover, even CNN’s own poll showed Trump won the debate in a massive landslide.

Biden also took a series of cheap shots against Trump. He first called his predecessor a “genuine threat” to America and emphasized that Trump’s economic plans would worsen inflation.

At last check, inflation was not an issue until Biden assumed power.

Biden went on to hammer Trump’s treatment of our nation’s veterans, which is quite ironic considering his own disgusting behavior toward our men and women in uniform.

Murphy had nothing but praise for the mentally declining Biden, calling him “America’s comeback kid.” He also vowed not to abandon him despite the campaign crisis.

“You’re on fire and we are all with you 1,000%,” Murphy said to Biden.
