In the pre-gloat hours before the verdict in Judge Juan Merchan’s courtroom, Lawfare caporegime Andrew Weissmann (“Mueller’s Pitbull”) confessed Valley Girl style from his MSNBC clubhouse perch, “. . . Of course, the Alvin Bragg victory in the artfully constructed “Stormy Daniels Payoff Case” decided late Thursday calls to question how come the Mueller Special Counsel Probe into 2016 election interference (actually run by Mr. Weissmann, due to Mr. Mueller’s declining cognitive ability) failed to spot the same web of evidence — hard as they toiled, and they had a good two years and millions of taxpayer dollars to git’er done?

My guess: too many white lawyers on the Mueller staff. Everybody knows now from watching the latest crop of television commercials that white people are unusually stupid and helpless and cannot cope with common problems without assistance from helpful people of color (POCs). So, God bless Alvin Bragg for finally fixing what Bob Mueller’s fifteen bloodhounds led by a pitbull somehow botched.

The former president is now convicted on thirty-four counts of book-keeping errors in furtherance of an alleged 2016 federal election violation that the Federal Election Commission declined to charge — that is, paying a porn star to sign a non-disclosure agreement about a sexual liaison — because it is not a crime under federal election law, and about which the head of the FEC, James E. “Trey” Trainor III, was barred by Judge Merchan from testifying on during the course of the trial for reasons yet unknown.

Of course, that is but one of a great many points of law that will merit appeal in what everybody — even some white people (people of non-color, PONCs) — knows was a case so crookedly contrived that it is fated to get tossed in the higher courts, and probably with harsh remonstrance to the degenerate officers of the court who brought it and adjudicated it. But you will have to wait on that because the mills of the law grind slowly.

Now, in the radiance of the full Woke gloat, we await Judge Merchan’s sentence, to be announced a mere few days before the Republican Convention in Milwaukee in early July. Jail time at Rikers? Home confinement (with ankle bracelet)? Severe travel restrictions? Reporting to a parole officer? Drug tests? Hey, No one is above the law!It is hard to imagine that the judge will demur from inflicting maximum humiliation on this wanton repeat violator (thirty-four times!) of book-keeping errors. It would tend to interfere with the presidential candidate’s campaign schedule, but so what? Where does it say in the Constitution that an election must be fair?

Or Judge Merchan could suspend all that pending appeal and just allow Mr. Trump to go about his election business free on bail. But why would he? After all the trouble he went to. And all the glory he’s reaping for it. “Joe Biden’s” party has Mr. Trump exactly where they want him, they think: pinned down like a moth in a shadow-box, inert and pathetic. (But, in reality, more like King Kong, chained in the rank basementbelow the stage of a Broadway theater before busting loose in midtown and upending subway cars so as to devour the little humans tumbling out like so many tic-tacs.)

Cancer patients often do better with less intensive treatment, new research finds

Scaling back treatment for three kinds of cancer can make life easier for patients without compromising outcomes, doctors reported at the world’s largest cancer conference.

It’s part of a long-term trend toward studying whether doing less — less surgery, less chemotherapy or less radiation — can help patients live longer and feel better. The latest studies involved ovarian and esophageal cancer and Hodgkin lymphoma.

Thirty years ago, cancer research was about doing more, not less. In one sobering example, women with advanced breast cancer were pushed to the brink of death with massive doses of chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants. The approach didn’t work any better than chemotherapy and patients suffered.

Now, in a quest to optimize cancer care, researchers are asking: “Do we need all that treatment that we have used in the past?”

It’s a question, “that should be asked over and over again,” said Dr. Tatjana Kolevska, medical director for the Kaiser Permanente National Cancer Excellence Program, who was not involved in the new research.

Often, doing less works because of improved drugs.

“The good news is that cancer treatment is not only becoming more effective, it’s becoming easier to tolerate and associated with less short-term and long-term complications,” said Dr. William G. Nelson of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, who was also not involved in the new research.

Studies demonstrating the trend were discussed over the weekend at an American Society of Clinical Oncology conference in Chicago. Here are the highlights:

OVARIAN CANCER

French researchers found that it’s safe to avoid removing lymph nodes that appear healthy during surgery for advanced ovarian cancer. The study compared the results for 379 patients — half had their lymph nodes removed and half did not. After nine years, there was no difference in how long the patients lived and those with less-extreme surgery had fewer complications, such as the need for blood transfusions. The research was funded by the National Institute of Cancer in France.

ESOPHAGEAL CANCER

This German study looked at 438 people with a type of cancer of the esophagus that can be treated with surgery. Half received a common treatment plan that included chemotherapy and surgery on the esophagus, the tube that carries food from the throat to the stomach. Half got another approach that includes radiation too. Both techniques are considered standard. Which one patients get can depend on where they get treatment.

After three years, 57% of those who got chemo and surgery were alive, compared to 51% of those who got chemo, surgery and radiation. The German Research Foundation funded the study.

HODGKIN LYMPHOMA

A comparison of two chemotherapy regimens for advanced Hodgkin lymphoma found the less intensive treatment was more effective for the blood cancer and caused fewer side effects.

After four years, the less harsh chemo kept the disease in check in 94% of people, compared to 91% of those who had the more intense treatment. The trial included 1,482 people in nine countries — Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Australia and New Zealand — and was funded by Takeda Oncology, the maker of one of the drugs used in the gentler chemo that was studied.

Zelensky taunts Trump as potential ‘loser’

Donald Trump’s alleged plans to end the conflict with Russia could cost the US its global standing, the Ukrainian leader has said

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has warned Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump that he could become a “loser president” if he insists on a peace deal with Russia involving territorial concessions from Kiev.

Trump has boasted that he will be able to end the Ukraine conflict within 24 hours by brokering a peace deal if he is reelected later this year. According to a report last month by the Washington Post which cited Trump campaign insiders, his strategy for achieving this involves pressuring Kiev into relinquishing its claims to Crimea and Donbass and recognizing them as parts of Russia.

Asked by The Guardian to comment on Trump’s supposed plan in an interview published on Friday, Zelensky warned that this strategy could have dire consequences for America and Trump personally.

“Does he want to be a loser president later? Let’s imagine what happens if Trump becomes presidentand decides to end the war at the expense of Ukraine… Let’s imagine that after this Putin will go further – then this new US president will be seen as weak, and this does not speak merely of his personality, but of the US government, they will be perceived as weak,” Zelensky said. (Zelensky crossed a line he’s going to severely regret.)

He added that by forcing Ukraine to abandon its territorial claims, the US would lose international influence and allow “Putin to move forward, realizing that the US is no longer a strong player.”

“Then other authoritarian leaders will enter the arena. And this will be the beginning of exactly what everyone is so afraid of – the third World War,” Zelensky claimed.

Trump has never officially detailed his peace plan for Ukraine, but has said that he personally knows both Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin and can make them agree to a ceasefire if he can get them to the negotiating table.

In 2022, the Ukrainian leader signed a law banning peace talks with Russia as long as Putin remains in power. According to Zelensky’s ‘peace formula’ presented that year, negotiations also cannot be held unless Russian forces withdraw from territories that Kiev claims as its own and Russia’s leadership faces an international tribunal for alleged war crimes.

Russia has long said that it is open to a political solution to the conflict, but considers Zelensky’s plan unrealistic. It is expected that the Ukrainian leader’s suggestions will be the focus of the upcoming ‘peace summit’ in Switzerland in mid-June, which Russia has not been invited to attend. Moscow has said it will not attend the event even if it receives an invitation, arguing that it is unlikely to bring about any viable suggestions for ending the conflict.

Hundreds of protesters marched in the German capital, Berlin, on Saturday,demanding a halt to military aid for Kiev and the “dangerous” anti-Russia rhetoric. This comes on the heels of explosive statements from the German government earlier this week regarding Ukraine’s use of Western-supplied weapons for strikes deep inside Russia.

Footage from the demonstration shows protesters marching from Berlin’s Alexanderplatz with flags and banners reading: “Stop war and hate speech against Russia,” “Stop Russophobia in Politics and Media,” and “NATO is the aggressor not Russia.” Activists accused the German government of making political decisions “on orders from Washington,” and warned of the consequences of a direct conflict with Moscow.

“The German government is not sovereign…When you see how the German government destroyed its economy with agreeing with Washington… then you see Germany is not in control of the situation,” an activist who identified himself as George told Ruptly video agency. He added that the government’s decisionto give Kiev “weapons that can reach Russia” makes Germany “a partner in this war,” creating a situation which is “very dangerous for Germany, for Germans, and the rest of the world.”

Another activist called on Berlin to “do everything it can to ensure that no war economy is necessary and that no land war comes.”

NATO and its Western allies have provided weapons and equipment to Ukraine, but maintained restrictions on their use. However, Kiev has recently intensified calls to relax the restrictions, especially those limiting its ability to strike targets in Russia. Several NATO states have spoken in favor of the move, including Germany.

Earlier this week, German government spokesmanSteffen Hebestreit said Berlin believes Kiev’s “defensive action is not limited to its own territory, but [can] also be expanded to the territory of the aggressor.” On Friday, he went on to signal that Kiev can use the weapons supplied by the West to attack Russian border regions from which the Ukrainian army’s positions in Kharkov Region are attacked.

Moscow has warned that Western arms supplies to Kiev will only prolong the conflict. Commenting on talk within NATO regarding Ukraine’s use of Western-supplied weapons to strike deep inside Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused the bloc of provoking a new “round of tensions.”

“They are doing this deliberately, we hear a lot of hawkish statements… They are in every possible wayprovoking Ukraine to continue this senseless war. Theythemselves intend to continue the war with us, the war in both the literal and figurative sense,” he told reporters on Thursday.

Experts discover ancient treasure made of 'alien' metal from another planet

Being lucky enough to come across a treasure trove is one thing, but also being able to distinguish what could actually be valuable is another.

When it comes to ancient treasures and discoveries, looks can certainly be deceiving.

A 1963 find of treasures from the Iberian Bronze Age certainly does catch the eye with all of its gold, however, two of its most corroded objects might be the most precious of all.

The two items are a dull bracelet and rusted hollow hemisphere decorated with a bit of gold are made up of interesting metals. The hemisphere object is believed to be part of a larger scepter.

The treasure of Villena is made up of 66 objects, which include golden, silver, and amber items.

As far as researchers can make out, they are not made from any metals found on Earth.

Both of these objects are particularly hard to date, sparking intense debate within the community.

Salvador Rovira-Llorens, the now-retired head of conservation at the National Archeological Museum Spain, led the investigation into these items.

Researchers now believe that the metal that they are made from is actually iron from meteorites in space, not found on Earth.

There is a way to tell the difference: iron from meteorites has a much higher nickel content than iron dug out of Earth's ground.

The possibility of the two items being made from this type of iron would help explain how they fit in with the rest of the collection - they were made around the same period, dating back to around 1400 to 1200 BCE.

"The presence in the Villena Treasure (Alicante) of two pieces of iron, a hollow semisphere and an open bracelet or ring, has generated controversy around its chronology since its discovery in 1963,” researchers said in the journal Trabajos de Prehistoria.

"Data from new analyzes are presented, the results of which support in favor of both pieces being made of meteoritic iron, implying the possibility of locating their chronology at some point in the Late Bronze Age prior to the beginning of the production of terrestrial iron," the researchers wrote.

"The available data suggest that the cap and bracelet from the Treasure of Villena would currently be the first two pieces attributable to meteoritic iron in the Iberian Peninsula which is compatible with a Late Bronze chronology, prior to the beginning of the widespread production of terrestrial iron."

Scientists are hoping greater research into the treasure will help uncover more about the treasure and when and how it was formed.

The Villena's Archaeological Museum in Spain where the treasure is kept describes the discovery as one of the ‘most important prehistoric treasures in Europe’.

So, yeah, kind of a big deal.

Germany has broken promise to Nazi blockade survivors – Lavrov

The current leadership in Berlin feels that the country has “settled accounts with everyone,” the Russian foreign minister has said

Berlin has failed to honor its promise to build a hospital for survivors of the World War II Nazi blockade and siege of Leningrad, and refused to pay reparations to non-Jewish survivors, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has claimed.

The World War II blockade of Leningrad, conducted by the Nazi Army Group North and forces of their ally Finland foralmost 900 days, killed 1 million people, more than 600,000 by starvation.

In an interview with the ‘No Expiration Date’ education project published on Saturday, Lavrov said that in 2008, Berlin decided to introduce lump-sum payments to survivors of the blockade, the longest and most brutal in modern history, but only those who are Jewish.

“We appealed to them and said that justice must prevail. All [victims of the blockade] suffered the same, froze, died,” Lavrov said. “We were told that Holocaust victims can and should be compensated according to the law, andthat everyone else is not a victim of the Holocaust. I don’t even need to explain how cynical this sounded.”

Berlin instead offered to build a small hospital and organize events for young people to meet the survivors, to which Moscow agreed, Lavrov said. However, no further steps were taken, according to the diplomat.

This meeting house and hospital have still not been completed.

Moscow made lump-sum payments to blockade survivors, following a September 2021 decree by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Lavrov, German officials were “sending signals” that the issue was “a thing of the past, Germany has settled accounts with everyone, paid reparations, apologized repeatedly.” Moscow does not want modern Germany to constantly repent for the past, Lavrov said, but Berlin’s position “smacked of hubris,” which could lead a nation to arrive at ideas of exceptionalism, he added.

Lavrov described how Nazism has managed to rise again in Ukraine as a warning to Germany. The country is useful for the West as a tool to fight Russia, Lavrov said, so itsbackers have turned a blind eye to “open actions to introduce Nazi theory and practice.”

Democratic ex-New York Gov. David Paterson says he would have wanted President Biden to consider pardoning Donald Trump in his hush-money conviction if the prez had the power.

Paterson, speaking Sunday on 77 WABC radio’s “The Cats Roundtable,” agreed with Trump’s gripes that the case was “rigged.

“There are a lot … of erroneous qualities to that trial,” Paterson said. “Some of the people who are involved: A person who worked at the White House somehow wound up in the Manhattan DA’s Office.

“All of it, when it adds up, really looks very much like what the former president describes it as,” the top Dem told host John Catsimatidis.

A US president cannot pardon someone of state crimes — such as the felony raps involving falsifying business records that Trump was convicted of in Manhattan court last week — but if the commander in chief could, he should have considered it in this case, Paterson said.

Paterson said Biden should be “real careful” about gloating, especially with the president’s son, Hunter Biden, now on trial.

“There was a press release [after former President Trump’s conviction] from the White House: ‘No one is above the law.’ I think President Biden should be real careful. There are investigations on him and his son right now. That dog could come back to bite him,” Paterson said.

Former New York Republican Gov. George Pataki joined Paterson in blasting the prosecution of Trump — and both governors warned it could boomerang on Biden and other Democrats.

Pataki said the unprecedented conviction of an ex-president could lead to a tit-for-tat, with conservative prosecutors indicting Biden or other Democrats down the road.

“When Biden is out of office, what is to prevent the district attorney of some rural county in Texas prosecuting him for millions of dollars for damage done by illegal aliens because he didn’t uphold his oath of office on the border?,” the former three-term governor said.

“They have opened a can of worms here that can go anywhere,” he said of Democrats pushing for Trump’s conviction.

Pataki, while worrying that the conviction will cause long-term damage to the justice system, also said that in the short-term, it will have a negative impact on Trump’s comeback bid for The White House.

He said Americans who have not followed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s successful prosecution closely will just look at the outcome — that Trump is a convicted felon.

“If you’re an undecided voter who … doesn’t understand Bragg’s partisan and ideological history; or the judge’s [Juan Merchan] partisan and ideological history … it’s going to have an impact on this election, which is unfair,” Pataki said.

Pataki anticipates the Biden campaign running an attack ad against Trump reminding voters that “by the way, he’s a convicted felon” — while Trump’s appeal of the verdict won’t be heard until after the fall election.

“This isn’t about convicting Trump. This is about hurting him in the election. To use our justice system for this partisan political benefit is a disgrace,” said Pataki, a lawyer.

Additionally, the obstruction charge forms the core of DOJ special counsel Jack Smith‘s January 6 prosecution against former President Donald Trump.Fisher and his attorneys contend the obstruction felony — a provision enacted by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 in the wake of the Enron scandal — represents an abusive application of what was supposed to be a statute addressing document destruction in the course of committing a financial crime. Two pilots were caught in a hilarious exchange after a reported UFO sighting over Irish airspace occurred in the early hours this morning.

The Unidentified Flying Object (which doesn’t necessarily equate to alien spaceships), was spotted over Irish airspace shortly after midnight on Wednesday (May 29), with the sighting being reported to Air Traffic Control.

Some of the exchanges between the pilots and ATC were shared online by online aviation journalist Shaun Dunne — Shaun’s Aviation on Twitter (X) — with the sighting happening in the direction of Northern Ireland/Scotland.

The pilot described seeing the UFO as ‘an object [that was] there and then it went,’ adding to Air Traffic Control ‘it was almost like it was staying still then it went really quickly.’

While the exact description of the object now known, Shaun’s Aviation managed to catch a witty exchange between two pilots — with one saying ‘I’ve never seen something amazing like that before,’ prompting another pilot to comment ‘You obviously haven’t seen my landings.’

Sources claim Miriam Adelson is giving $100 million to Trump campaign

Miriam Adelson, the wife of the late billionaire Sheldon Adelson, has reportedly pledged to spend more than $100 million to support former President Donald Trump in the upcoming general election after staying neutral in the Republican presidential primaries this year.

Adelson, an Israeli-born physician who specializes in substance abuse, is set to finance a rejuvenated pro-Trump super PAC, Preserve America, which was initially formed for Trump’s reelection bid in 2020, Politico reported Thursday. The Adelsons contributed $90 million to Trump in that election cycle.

Sheldon Adelson, the casino magnate who died in 2021, was the most generous single donor for Trump in 2016 — spending $20 million. But he didn’t cut checks until September of that year, and leveraged his support to demand that Trump announce the relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem when he won.

Miriam Adelson is the latest of several billionaires who have pledged their support to Trump in recent weeks. And Bill Ackman, the founder of Pershing Square Capital Management and a prominent critic of colleges’ handling of campus antisemitism, will likely endorse Trump, the Financial Times reported Thursday. Both Trump and President Joe Biden used Thursday’s verdict against Trump for falsifying business records in fundraising appeals. Trump has raised less than Biden, but narrowed the gap in April.

Trump honored Miriam Adelson with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018.

Initially, it appeared that she was not going to be actively involved in the 2024 election. She said in 2021 that it was time to move beyond the divisions that Trump stoked following his loss. After the death of her husband , she kept a low political profile, though she resumed making political contributions in the 2022 midterm elections.

She refused to take sides in the presidential primary though she was courted by Trump and his chief rivals, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

It is unclear why she made the decision to back Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, right now — and whether she has secured any commitments about policy in a possible Trump administration.

According to Politico, Trump has met with Adelson multiple times and has also had phone conversations with her in recent months.

Some speculate that it may explain a recent shift in the former president’s more favorable stance towards Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. At a recent fundraiser, Trump told donors he supports Israel’s right to continue “its war on terror” and vowed to crush the pro-Palestinian protests across campuses and deport foreign demonstrators.

After Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel and in recent months, Trump criticized the Israeli leadership’s handling of the war in Gaza. In an interview with Israel Hayom, a newspaper owned by Miriam Adelson, Trump said that Israel had made a “very big mistake” by broadcasting to the world the images of the destruction in Gaza. Trump also indicated that Netanyahu should pay a price for the failures leading up to the Hamas attacks.

GOP megadonor Miriam Adelson to fund colossal super PAC for Trump

Republican megadonor and casino billionaire Miriam Adelson plans to help bankroll a massive super PAC for Donald Trump as he seeks to close his financial gap with President Joe Biden.

Adelson is planning to play a major role in funding Preserve America, a pro-Trump super PAC founded during the former president’s 2020 reelection campaign. The group is now being reconstituted for the purpose of helping Trump’s 2024 bid, according to a person with direct knowledge of her plans who was granted anonymity to speak freely.

How much Adelson will donate to the super PAC is not clear, though the person familiar with her plans said the group was expecting to spend more than it did four years ago when Adelson and her late husband, Sheldon, donated $90 million to Preserve America. Their funds accounted for about 85 percent of what the organization raised in total.

Adelson, who is the principal shareholder of Las Vegas Sands and who also has a majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks with her son-in-law, has an estimated net worth of $33.3 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Adelson’s expected investment represents a major boost for Trump, who has been cultivating her as part of a broader effort to bring major GOP donors into the fold. The former president has met with Adelson a handful of times in recent months and has also spoken with her on the phone, according to another person familiar with the talks. Adelson decided to sit out the Republican primary despite being wooed by a number of candidates.

Trump has been looking to make up a substantial fundraising gap with Biden and is leaning on big donors for help. Through the end of April, Biden’s campaign account had $84 million cash on hand, compared to $49 million for Trump.

Adelson’s relationship with Trump stretches back years. Miriam and Sheldon had a seat on the dais at Trump’s 2017 inauguration, and in 2018 Trump awarded Miriam, a physician who specializes in drug addiction rehabilitation, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In a 2021 POLITICO story about Miriam Adelson’s political activity, Trump praised her as a “wonderful woman who her husband loved greatly and, at the same time, respected for her great intelligence.”

Dave Carney, a longtime Republican Party strategist who advises Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and has previously worked for a number of presidential candidates, will lead the organization. Carney is known for his aggressive political tactics: A 2022 profile in the Texas Observer described him as “Abbott’s Attack Dog.” Texas Lieutenant Gov. Dan Patrick, a close Trump ally who attended the hush money trial last week, praised Carney in a statement as “an experienced hand well versed in running big races, in the hundreds of million dollars.”

During the 2020 campaign, Preserve America was overseen by Chris LaCivita. LaCivita is now serving as Trump’s co-campaign manager and is no longer active with the super PAC.

“Joe Biden is ruining our country with high prices, open borders and weakness abroad. We’re going to do everything we can to stop him and return President Trump to the White House to put America First once again,” Carney said in a statement.

Those familiar with Preserve America’s plans say the group is expected to raise money from other donors in addition to Adelson. While the Adelson couple gave the group the vast majority of its funds in 2020, it also drew checks from other major GOP givers including investor Warren Stephens, businessperson Ronald Cameron and construction executive Diane Hendricks. In total, the organization drew contributions from nearly a hundred people, according to campaign finance records.

Like her late husband Sheldon, the Tel Aviv-born Adelson has long been an outspoken supporter of Israel. Adelson, who is the publisher of the Israel Hayom newspaper, compared the Oct. 7 attack on Israel to the terrorist attacks on the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001 in a speech late last year.

Preserve America will be one of several pro-Trump super PACs. The primary vehicle has been MAGA Inc., an organization whose fundraising events Trump has appeared at, and which is being overseen by Trump ally Taylor Budowich. A more recently created outfit is Right for America, which is being bankrolled by Trump friend and former Marvel Entertainment executive Ike Perlmutter. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a former Trump primary opponent who is now reestablishing his relationship with the former president, has been helping to raise money for Right for America.
