Officers to be charged with abuse and assault over 2023 incident in East Jerusalem, as well as possibly for deleting footage of altercation during arrest

The Department of Internal Police Investigations (DIPI) said Tuesday that it had recently notified seven police officers that they would be charged in a 2023 incident in which a Star of David was allegedly branded on the face of an East Jerusalem resident during his arrest.

According to a statement from DIPI, the seven cops were slated to be indicted on varying charges of abuse of a helpless person, aggravated assault, obstruction of investigative proceedings, and abuse of official power.

Not all seven officers were set to be charged with all of those offenses, and it was unclear what would be decided regarding nine other cops who also took part in the August 2023 arrest of 22-year-old Arwah Sheikh Ali.

In the incident, the East Jerusalem Palestinian claimed that police officers had beat him and branded his face with a Star of David while arresting him for suspected drug trafficking.

Ali filed an official complaint to the Justice Ministry’s DIPI several days after the arrest, which made headlines over its apparent brutal nature.

LONDON — More than 100 business leaders on Tuesday voiced their support for the U.K.’s center-left opposition Labour Party, nearly five weeks before the country heads to the polls.

The group, which includes Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and former vice-chairman of JP Morgan Cazenove Charles Harman, said in an open letter to The Times newspaper: “We, as leaders and investors in British business, believe it is time for a change.”

The writers of the letter claim that the U.K. economy has suffered from a decade of stagnation amid a lack of both political stability and a long-term, consistent economic strategy. The country has been “denied the skills and infrastructure it needs to flourish,” the letter says.

The Labour Party has “shown it has changed and wants to work with business to achieve the UK’s full economic potential,” they said.

Signatories also include WPP

’s former U.K. President Karen Blackett, JD Sports and British Retail Consortium Chair Andrew Higginson, and the former CEOs of Tesco Bank and Heathrow Airport. Few current FTSE 250 chief executives appear on the list.

The right-wing Conservative Party has been in power since 2010, initially as part of a coalition with the smaller, centrist Liberal Democrat Party. The U.K. has had five prime ministers during that period.

The last U.K. general election was held in 2019 and resulted in a decisive victory for the Conservatives under former U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who resigned in 2022 following a series of controversies.

Political polls for the last two years have pointed to a likely Labour victory, despite the major turnover in the national vote that will be required.

Incumbent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak last week called a surprise election for July 4. In his speech and in comments to media, Sunak said his government had overseen a fall in inflation and a return to economic growth.

The U.K. economy expanded by 0.6% in the first quarter, after falling into a shallow recession last year.

Labour has placed a major focus on committing to fiscal discipline in the party’s campaign messaging. In a release Tuesday, Labour said its pledges include establishing a new publicly owned energy company and bringing train operators under public ownership.

Labour’s shadow finance minister and former banker Rachel Reeves, has meanwhile made a long-running effort to woo business and finance executives.

In a speech on Tuesday, Reeves said the Labour Party would cap corporation tax at its current level, work with the private sector to drive U.K. investment and publish a business tax roadmap within six months of taking power, the BBC reported.

Delivering his own speech on the campaign trail, Sunak said that Labour would not bring financial security to people, according to the BBC.

The Israeli army arrested around 20 Palestinians from 25 to 26 May, bringing the total number of arrests in the occupied West Bank since 7 October to over 8,875.

The Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Club jointly issued a statement, revealing that the total arrests since 7 October have surpassed 8,875.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the arrests over the weekend took place across several areas in the West Bank, including Jenin, Bethlehem, Hebron, Nablus, Ramallah, and Jerusalem.

During the arrest campaign, Israeli settlers, accompanied by police, entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem on the morning of 26 May. Local reports also indicate that the arrest raids caused widespread destruction of property.

The reports added that local enforcement was stationed at the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque and prevented tens of worshippers from entering.

Additionally, Israeli forces distributed demolition notices on the same day for commercial shops along the road connecting the Jaba and Qalandia military checkpoints, situated north of occupied Jerusalem, and for a bridge linking the towns of Jaba and Al-Ram.

Simultaneously with the conflict in Gaza, Israeli settlers have increased their assaults on Palestinians in the West Bank. The Israeli military has also heightened its operations in the occupied West Bank, leading to 518 deaths, 5,000 injuries, and numerous arrests.

Earlier this month, in a similar incident, the Israeli military detained 25 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, killing six civilians in the process.

According to a local statement, the Israeli forces physically assaulted and mistreated Palestinians, as well as damaging their property.

Detention drives are often marked by increasing incidents of mistreatment, physical assaults, and intimidation directed at the detainees and their families. This encompasses the demolition of residences along with the seizure of vehicles, funds, and valuables like jewelry.

Israel has allegedly led an almost decade-long “war” against the International Criminal Court’s intention to pursue arrest warrants against its leaders, dedicating immense intelligence and diplomatic efforts to finding out the court’s plans and attempting to thwart them via multiple channels and tactics including espionage and threats, The Guardian reported Tuesday.

One element of the ultimately failed campaign was reported in a separate Guardian story earlier in the day, outlining then-Mossad chief Yossi Cohen’s alleged campaign of “threats and intimidation” aimed at dissuading then-ICC chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda from opening a war crimes investigation into Israel.

In a follow-up story hours later, The Guardian — in an investigation carried out in conjunction with Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine and Hebrew-language outlet Local Call — claimed that was just part of a nine-year attempt to dissuade Bensouda and her successor Karim Khan from prosecuting Israeli leaders, which began in 2015 and was still being waged as recently as last month.

Citing “more than two dozen current and former Israeli intelligence officers and government officials, senior ICC figures, diplomats and lawyers” familiar with the matter, the report said that alongside the Mossad spy agency, the intelligence-gathering efforts also included the Shin Bet security service; and the Israel Defense Forces’ Military Intelligence Directorate and its signal intelligence branch, Unit 8200.

Israel, having barred ICC staff from accessing the West Bank and Gaza, regularly intercepted their calls and communications with Palestinians, though it never directly tapped ICC official’s devices, the report said.

One former Israeli intelligence official was quoted as alleging that the “entire military and political establishment” viewed this “as a war that had to be waged, and one that Israel needed to be defended against. It was described in military terms.”

CIA is involved in domestic censorship collusion with Big Tech, bombshell report reveals

A bombshell report recently proved that the government's intel arm colludes with Big Tech to impose domestic censorship.

Unlike the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the law strictly prohibits Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) employees to spy or run clandestine operations against Americans in the United States. However, a new Twitter Files investigation has revealed that a member of the Board of Trustees of the CIA's mission-driven venture capital firm and "former" intelligence community (IC) and CIA analysts were involved in a 2021-2022 effort to take over Twitter's content management system.

Bestselling author and independent journalist Michael Shellenberger disclosed on May 23 that the said "project" between CIA and tech companies involved a long-time IC contractor and senior Department of Defense research and development official who spent years developing technologies to detect whistleblowers like Wikileaks' leakers. It also implicated the proposed head of the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) aborted Disinformation Governance Board Nina Jankowicz, who aided U.S. military and NATO "hybrid war" operations in Europe.

On June 11, 2020, a little-known book publisher published Jankowicz's "How to Lose the Information War: Russia, Fake News and the Future of Conflict," which argues for an "info war" like the kind the U.S. government waged in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. She compared the lack of regulation of speech on social media regulations to the lack of government regulation of automobiles in the 1960s. She called for a "cross-platform" and public-private approach, so whatever actions are taken are taken by Google, Facebook and Twitter, simultaneously.

She also cited Europe as the model for regulating speech. "Germany's NetzDG law requires social media companies and other content hosts to remove 'obviously illegal' speech within twenty-four hours," she said, "or face a fine of up to $50 million." In the U.S. "Congress has yet to pass a bill imposing even the most basic of regulations related to social media and election advertising," she lamented.

Meanwhile, Jim Baker, who helped start the "Russiagate" hoax and urged Twitter executives to censor the New York Post story on the contents of presidential son Hunter Biden's laptop, was also implicated in the collusion efforts. "These existing or former IC employees, contractors or intermediaries weren't satisfied with simply controlling Twitter. They also wanted to use PayPal, Amazon Web Services and GoDaddy in a totalizing effort to de-platform, de-monetize and excommunicate from the Internet entirely those individuals that the IC et al. deems to be a threat," Shellenberger exposed.

He further expressed that the investigation may still need more information. "We do not know if officials within the CIA or any other IC organization ran the operation. It is possible that the only individuals involved in the effort were the ones we discovered. And none of the individuals involved responded to our request for information except for one," he pointed out.

The NHS and the Government took part in a “chilling” cover-up of the infected blood scandal that has claimed more than 3,000 lives, a public inquiry has concluded.

Sir Brian Langstaff, who chaired the five-year inquiry into the NHS’s worst treatment disaster, said doctors, civil servants and ministers had “closed ranks” to hide the truth for decades.

He said the “horrifying” scandal could and should have been avoided, but a “catalogue of failures” led to “calamity”.

Between 1970 and 1998 more than 3,000 patients “died or suffered miserably” as a result of being given contaminated blood products that infected them with HIV and Hepatitis.

The tragedy happened because medics and successive governments “did not put patient safety first”. When the scandal was exposed, “the response of those in authority served to compound people’s suffering”, Sir Brian said.

He added: “I have to report that it could largely, though not entirely, have been avoided. And I have to report that it should have been.”

He recommended that a compensation scheme be set up immediately for victims and bereaved families, which Jeremy Hunt, the Chancellor, is expected formally to accept on Tuesday.

“Now is the time for national recognition of this disaster and for proper compensation to all those who have been wronged,” he said.

In a 2,527 report published on Monday, Sir Brian also warned that a substantial number of people remain unaware that they were given transfusions or other products of infected blood, and are therefore undiagnosed.

They include around 900 people infected with Hepatitis C and around 200 people who were infected with HIV - the virus that causes Aids - as children.

Among those who are singled out for criticism are Kenneth Clarke (now Lord Clarke) who, as health minister in 1983, wrongly claimed there was no proof that Aids could not be spread through blood products, even though there was already evidence of a link.

The inquiry’s remit did not include making any recommendations for prosecutions, but the report is likely to be studied closely by the police and the Crown Prosecution Service for any evidence of criminal liability.

One of the most shocking episodes in the scandal happened at Lord Mayor Treloar School for children with disabilities in Alton, Hampshire, where many of the pupils were haemophiliacs.

Children there were “betrayed” when they were used as “objects” of experimental trials, and were not always told they were part of a trial, then suffered a “nightmare of tragic proportion” after being given disease ridden drugs.

Young boys at the school were told in batches of five if they had or had not tested positive for HIV in front of each other before being immediately sent back to class.

In other cases doctors made the “unconscionable” decision not to tell pupils and parents they had tested positive for the disease at all.

Sir Brian said of the overall scandal: “It will be astonishing to anyone who reads this report that these events could have happened in the UK…that a level of suffering which it is difficult to comprehend, still less understand, has been caused to so many”.

He said victims of the scandal “have been forced into a decades-long battle for the truth.

“Successive governments claimed that patients had received the best medical treatment available at the time, and that blood screening had been introduced at the earliest opportunity. Both claims were untrue.”

Sir Brian’s recommendations include that the statutory duty of candour that currently applies to doctors should be extended to NHS managers, executives and board members and that the “culture of defensiveness” in the NHS must end.

He also said the Government should pay for a public memorial to the victims and for a second memorial at Treloar’s School.

BuzzFeed's market value has plummeted from around $1.5 billion to just under $100 million

Former 2024 GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has issued a seven-page letter to BuzzFeed's board of directors, reviewed by FOX Business, urging the troubled media company to add three more directors he has vetted and adapt its business model to survive as the company hemorrhages money.

Since going public in December 2021, BuzzFeed's market value has plummeted from around $1.5 billion to just under $100 million. While shares of BuzzFeed have rallied 180% this year, the recent boost coincided with reports of Ramaswamy's buying of the shares. He is now the second-largest Class A shareholder with an 8.37% stake.

"The public markets have spoken," Ramaswamy said, adding, "I own your stock because I believe BuzzFeed can still become a more valuable company than at its initial listing, but this requires a major shift in strategy," Ramaswamy said.

Still, the stock is well off its peak of around the $40 per share level reached in 2021. "Almost two decades after its founding, BuzzFeed is now effectively a startup with a paltry ~$100 million market capitalization," he said. "I view that as an opportunity."

Ramaswamy said BuzzFeed was once a "pioneer of the social internet," attracting sky-high valuations, but now "the social-internet model is dying or dead, and BuzzFeed is caught without a viable strategy."

He also stressed BuzzFeed has an opportunity to redefine its purpose, by regaining the public’s trust in the media. He pointed topast blunders by BuzzFeed, including publishing the uncorroborated Steele Dossier or reporting that President Trump allegedly directed Michael Cohen to lieabout construction of a building in Moscow, which was later rebutted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report.

With revenue expected to decline further, Ramaswamy implored BuzzFeed to transform its business model now that more companies are relying on burgeoning AI technologies. He forecasted that BuzzFeed faced likely bankruptcy by the end of 2024 if it fails to adapt its business model.

To get back on track, Ramaswamy recommended the company roll out a new strategy in three phases:Get Back to Startup Size, Invest in Creator-Led Audio & Video Content, and Make BuzzFeed a Bold, Distinctive Brand.The silver lining in all of this, Ramaswamy argued, was that the competitors of BuzzFeed "are equally bad."

"Americans are desperately turning to other sources of information, such as independently distributedaudio and video podcasts," he said. Against this backdrop, you have a historic opportunity to redefine BuzzFeed and set yourself apart from every other major media organization," Ramaswamy said, recommending that the company admit to its audience: "We failed in our obligation to tell you the truth."

For a rebranding and reshuffling to take place, Ramaswamy said, the company should focus on fostering "true intellectual diversity, both in its rank-and-file and in its leadership."

As an example, he noted that of the more than 200+ "political contributions made by BuzzFeed employees since 2010, only 2 were to Republicans. The number doesn’t have to be 50%, but less than 1% is just abysmal for any company that claims to pay homage to "diversity" in its hiring practices" he said.

Ramaswamy anticipated partisan objections from the company, invoking his bid as a Republican contender in the presidential race, but suggested that it may be in the company’s best interest "to hear from someone who shares views in common with [more than] 150 million Americans."
