Pence said, “I’m happy to meet the criteria for the upcoming presidential debates. I’m incredibly proud that more than 40,000 Americans in more than nine weeks have supported our campaign and made it possible for us to qualify for the debate stage. In fact, I think I’ll qualify for the second debate before we get to the first one because more Americans are seeing that my consistent conservative record, my years as vice president, my years as governor in Indiana, my years as a house conservative leader for 12 years are really just what the nation needs. This is no time for job training and distractions. Do we need leadership on day one that will be able to provide the team and the vision?”

Host Chuck Todd said, “Do you consider yourself a MAGA Republican?”

“We are definitely talking hundreds of thousands of children affected by reproductive abuse,” says Dr Reisinger, who has examined thousands of pages of survivor accounts, court documents and newspaper articles.

“I found the first abortion case involving a 13-year-old girl. And I found cases with girls even younger than that — 11-year-olds who had become pregnant as a result of sexual abuse by a priest.”

Larry Johnson and Stephen Gardner on How Do You Launder Loads of Money

I did not know much about Stephen Gardner until after I received his invitation for an interview. Stephen is your consummate regular guy just trying to make sense out of a confusing jumble of world events. He does not pretend to be an expert and does not require an ideological purity test for any prospective guest.

Anyway, the podcast from my first interview with Stephen generated over 700,000 views. That man has some genuine reach. One other thing I discovered about Stephen — he is a generous soul. After my first appearance on his podcast I received an incredible food gift from Stephen. He was just thanking me for taking my time to talk with him. I made no demands of any kind. He simply acted on his own. That’s a class act in my book.

Since Stephen and I spoke on Wednesday there have been some significant developments. The most important, in my view, is Russia imposing a de facto blockade on Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea. This is just one consequence of Russia’s withdrawal from the grain deal. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported:

On 13 August at about 6.40 a.m. Moscow time, the Black Sea Fleet patrol ship Vasily Bykov, which was carrying out shipping control monitoring, detected the bulk cargo ship Sukra Okan under the flag of Palau, which was on its way to the Ukrainian port of Izmail, in the south-western part of the Black Sea.

The captain of the bulk cargo ship did not respond to the request to stop for inspection for the carriage of prohibited goods.

The Russian warship opened warning fire from automatic small arms fire to forcefully stop the vessel.

In order to inspect the bulk cargo ship, a Ka-29 helicopter with a group of Russian servicemen was hoisted from the patrol ship Vasily Bykov.

Following radio conversations, the ship stopped its course and the boarding team landed on the bulk cargo ship.

After the work of the boarding team on board Sukra Okan was completed, the vessel continued its journey to the port of Izmail.

Black Sea Fleet ships continue patrolling in the designated areas.

There are still politically influential oligarchs in Ukraine that are being financially harmed by Russia’s blockade. Now that a major bite is being taken out of oligarch bank accounts it is highly likely that President Zelensky will face growing pressure to find a way to end the war and get the “commerce” back in gear. Also, don’t ignore the difficulties that this is creating for black market smugglers as well. Here is an excellent overview of how drug traffickers are using Black Sea routes…

Shifting topics to the continued delusional analysis by retired U.S. Generals. Phil Breedlove did a stint as the Commander of EUCOM (i.e., U.S. European Command) and is quoted in a recent NY Times article insisting that Ukraine’s counter offensive can succeed without air power:

All of which has raised a question: Without significant air power — a pillar of the warfare tactics that the West has urged Ukraine to adopt — can the counteroffensive prevail?

The answer appears to be yes, as current and former officials in Ukraine, the United States and Europe, as well as Western defense analysts, said in interviews last week as the counteroffensive ground on, with volleys of artillery fire and drone strikes but no major breakthroughs.

But it is likely to be far more difficult without the jets.

“It will have to happen without the F-16,” said Philip M. Breedlove, a retired United States Air Force general and former NATO commander, “but I believe they can.”

A former F-16 pilot, Mr. Breedlove said there was “great benefit” for Ukraine’s forces to learn and deploy the so-called combined arms tactics that are the backbone of modern ground warfare, given that they “are going to be applicable in many different phases of what you do, no matter what.”

Nevertheless, he added, “If you expect Ukraine to fight like we fight, then they have to have the tools that we have, and we have not given them those tools.”

Breedlove “believes?” What else does he believe in? Santa Claus? The Easter Bunny? Fiji winning the World Cup? I am flabbergasted that an experienced officer like Breedlove will say something that is so out of touch with reality. Russia’s air defense system, coupled with its robust combat air force, can easily defeat any threat posed by the F-16.

Without a large number of fixed wing combat aircraft Ukraine has ZERO chance of defeating even one layer of the Surovikin defense line. ZERO! As long as these Western “experts” continue to issue this kind of propaganda it will be difficult to generate the political opposition to sending Ukraine billions of dollars of more ineffective military assistance.

What could account for Breedlove’s crazy comments? Could it be money? He does have a commercial relationship with Dyncorp and other Beltway Bandits:

DynCorp was a scandal-plagued military contractor with an expertise in military flight operations support, whose primary client was the U.S. government until its acquisition last year by Amentum, a company that boasts of its “deep relationships with customers in the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Energy.”

Breedlove is also promoted as an “advisor” at Stellar Solutions, a consultancy that markets itself to clients needing expertise in “coalition operations” and “expert solutions for Department of Defense customers related to space and missile systems of national protection and security.”

In other words, since retiring from the Air Force, Breedlove associated himself with firms that either directly profit from military contracts, like DynCorp, or market themselves as effective consultants for defense contractors seeking to manage their relationships with the U.S. government.

I used to have a cat that was a self-taught mouser. While the instinct to hunt is inbred in them, cats usually need to be taught by their mothers how to kill prey.

In this, the psychological torture of the mouse apparently added to Ebony’s enjoyment.

The game could last an hour or more. Finally, tiring of the sport, Ebony would deliver the fatal bite and saunter off to eat real cat food.

Donald Trump is not a cat. But since 2015, I have been writing about his feral instincts as a politician — easily the best I’ve seen in watching politics for nearly half a century. Both Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will be in Iowa today. DeSantis is at the Iowa State Fair to look for votes. The Florida governor trails Trump by 24 points in the state, according to a recent Sienna poll. Trump’s lead is much larger nationally.

Trump was in Iowa not specifically for votes, but rather to troll the Florida governor. Trump had several Florida congressmen in tow when he arrived in Iowa, highlighting the fact that he is more popular in Florida than DeSantis.

Axios:

Reps. Gus Bilirakis, Byron Donalds, Matt Gaetz, Carlos Gimenez, Brian Mast, Cory Mills, Anna Paulina Luna, Greg Steube and Mike Waltz will accompany Trump to the annual fair, a staple of the Iowa circuit that DeSantis will also attend, the Des Moines Register reports.

Trump has spurned several GOP “cattle call” events in Iowa and has feuded with the state’s popular Gov. Kim Reynolds, who is hosting a “fair-side chat” series with candidates on Saturday. Trump is not planning to attend a public chat with Reynolds.

The DeSantis campaign responded to news of Trump’s troll with a two-word tweet: “Rent free.”

Zoom out: DeSantis has been campaigning aggressively in the first-of-the-nation caucus state, attending nearly 30 counties as of Saturday, the New York Times reported. His campaign says he plans to visit all 99 counties in the state.

At this point, Trump needs DeSantis as a foil — a punching bag to try out attack lines. And DeSantis is still trying to “right the ship” and reboot his campaign.

It could be going better.

The super PAC supporting DeSantis’ campaign announced Friday that it has at least one chairperson in all 99 of Iowa’s counties, a move that will strengthen the Florida governor’s organizing muscle.

At a taping Thursday of the conservative podcast “Ruthless,” DeSantis said he intends to visit every Iowa county. He also jabbed at Trump for so far refusing to commit to the first GOP presidential debate, in Milwaukee on August 23.

“You got to be willing to answer questions,” DeSantis said. “You’ve got to be willing to defend your record, and you’ve got to articulate a vision for the future.”

Trump will arrive at the State Fair about 1 p.m. — long after DeSantis has left. Whether DeSantis can make a stirring comeback or not, he knows it has to begin in Iowa. And so far, Iowans aren’t helping his cause.

Just one day earlier, Cuomo had announced a similar partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to develop “a smarter education system.” Calling Gates a “visionary,” Cuomo said the pandemic has created “a moment in history when we can actually incorporate and advance [Gates’s] ideas … all these buildings, all these physical classrooms — why with all the technology you have?” he asked, apparently rhetorically.

It has taken some time to gel, but something resembling a coherent Pandemic Shock Doctrine is beginning to emerge. Call it the “Screen New Deal.” Far more high-tech than anything we have seen during previous disasters, the future that is being rushed into being as the bodies still pile up treats our past weeks of physical isolation not as a painful necessity to save lives, but as a living laboratory for a permanent — and highly profitable — no-touch future.

Prayer is the western version of meditation. Do most Christians do it the way they were instructed? No. Hell no. But again, prayer is "effective" in the same sense that Buddhist meditation is. When people put their minds to something, great things are made possible. This will be the third time I've posted this. I keep doing it because it is something I see among many of my conservative Christian friends. A child goes away to college and leaves alienated from family. In conservative communities such as Amish a young person is ready to support and care for a family in their teens, plus they are not normally alienated from their family and community. Why waste time on college? What is there to gain from it? In the old days when people chuckled about the "MRS" degree it actually made more sense as people from similar background and talents could find connections at "college" and meet suitable spouses. I've been acquainted with one family that trained their sons to make money in high school (homeschooled) so that when their eldest was ready to get married he could pay cash for a house in the same neighborhood he grew up in. If all "college" does is leave an American young person broke, sterile (vaccines) and alienated from all that is good I say ditch (and sue the "heck" out of) "colleges".

Not mentioning the two offspring of mine who (in my opinion) were severely damaged at "college". It is very personal the damage done by the education system and I won't relent in praying against this evil.
