FBI Agents Raid Home of Pro-Life Author With Guns Drawn in Front of His Screaming Kids

It’s getting to be a thing now — the questionable FBI raid with political overtones — under the Biden Administration. That’s a frightening thing to say. How quickly we have gotten there under Biden, where law enforcement is politicized.

The latest victim of the armed FBI agents raiding people’s homes first thing in the morning for things that don’t seem to justify it is Mark Houck, founder, and president of “The King’s Men,” a group that promotes healing for victims of pornography addiction and promotes Christian virtues among men in the United States and Europe. He’s also a pro-life activist and on Wednesdays, he sidewalk counsels people in front of a Planned Parenthood in Philadelphia.

According to Mark Houck’s wife, Ryan-Marie, 25-30 agents surrounded their house, pounded on the door, yelling with guns drawn at 7:05 a.m. on Friday. That was until yesterday when, according to his wife, 25-30 armed FBI agents raided their home at 7:05 a.m.

His wife said they entered the home and pointed rifles at them as their kids began screaming.

His wife and kids watched and they arrested Mark.

Before opening the door, she explained, her husband tried to calm them, saying, “‘Please, I’m going to open the door, but, please, my children are in the home. I have seven babies in the house.’ But they just kept pounding and screaming,” she said.

When he opened the door, “they had big, huge rifles pointed at Mark and pointed at me and kind of pointed throughout the house,” Ryan-Marie described.

When they came in, they ordered the kids to stay upstairs. “Our staircase is open, so [the kids] were all at the top of the stairs which faces the front door, and I was on the stairs as well, coming down.” “The kids were all just screaming. It was all just very scary and traumatic,” she explained.

After asking them why they were at the house, the agents said they were there to arrest Mark. When Ryan-Marie asked for their warrant, “they said that they were going to take him whether they had a warrant or not.”

When Ryan-Marie protested, saying that is kidnapping, “you can’t just come to a person’s house and kidnap them at gunpoint,” they agreed to get the warrant for her from one of their vehicles. Why did they show up at his home and arrest him like that? What had he done?

According to Ryan-Marie, a pro-abortion protester kept getting in the face of their son who was with his father in front of Planned Parenthood. The pro-abortion protester kept saying inappropriate and obscene things to the son, according to Houck’s wife.

And “he kept doing it and kind of came into [the son’s] personal space” obscenely ridiculing his father. At this point, “Mark shoved him away from his child, and the guy fell back.”

“He didn’t have any injuries or anything, but he tried to sue Mark,” and the case was thrown out of court in the early summer.

According to the official press release about the arrest, the DOJ claims Houck, shoved a man to the ground twice in front of a Planned Parenthood in Philadelphia. They claim there were “injuries that required medical attention” without saying what they were.

Mark Houck is now facing a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and fines of up to $350,000.

In a non-federal prosecution, if you shoved someone and there were no real injuries, if it was prosecuted at all, it would probably be a misdemeanor, with no real time, assuming you had no prior record. Normally, this is the kind of federal raid that you would get if you were a drug dealer, not an author who allegedly shoved someone who was saying inappropriate things to his son.

But now we’ve seen that even a former president isn’t safe from this kind of excessive FBI approach and that even something that was relatively minor a year ago can get you armed FBI on your doorstep — if you’re just coincidentally of the wrong political persuasion. This is scary stuff. We’re still waiting on the raids for the firebombings from leftists of the crisis pregnancy centers.

Some blasted the two-tiered approach that we’re seeing once again. Nobody responsible for the nearly 100 attacks, including firebombs and vandalism, on pro-life pregnancy centers has been charged by the DOJ.

But a pro-life activist who pushed a Planned Parenthood volunteer threatening his sonis now facing 11 years in jail.

Two-tiers justice.

US threatens Russia with ‘catastrophic consequences’ in case of nuke action

Washington will respond in kind if Moscow uses WMDs in Ukraine, Biden's national security adviser promised

The US will retaliate forcefully if Russia uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine, President Joe Biden's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, told CBS on Sunday. He also declared that the referendums in the Donbass republics and Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions of Ukraine had not altered Washington’s support for Kiev.

“Any use of nuclear weapons will be met with catastrophic consequences for Russia,” Sullivan said on the network’s Face the Nation program, explaining that the Biden administration had told Moscow both privately at ‘very high levels’ and publicly that “the United States and our allies will respond decisively if Russia uses nuclear weapons.”

Sullivan also revealed that Washington was keeping “a close eye” on the Zaporozhye nuclear plant. In order to lessen the chance of a catastrophic incident, the facility has been placed in cold shutdown in response to constant shelling that both sides blame on each other.

However, the plant is still operating. The International Atomic Energy Agency, which visited the site earlier this month, identified an “urgent need for interim measures to prevent a nuclear accident,” specifically the “immediate establishment of a nuclear safety and security protection zone.” The IAEA, however, failed to mention the culprit behind the attacks, despite Russia providing evidence that pointed to the Ukrainian side.

The US and its allies have condemned the referendums, which are still underway, as “illegitimate,” vowing not to recognize the results because the votes “in no way respect democratic norms,” despite international observers from several countries volunteering to come to the regions to verify the vote.

The Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics declared their independence in 2014 and were recognized as independent states by Russia in February 2022, eight years after initially voting for self-rule in landslide referendums following the US-backed coup in Kiev. Most of Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions have been under Russian control since March.

I wasn’t there — and neither has anyone who’s inclined to shred this piece for any number of reasons, most likely because it’s in part sourced from The Washington Post and several unidentified sources reportedly close to Trump — but this sounds like quintessential Donald Trump. The egocentricity, most of all, from claiming “I made him” in reference to the popular Florida governor, who has not only become one of the most high-profile Republican leaders in America and has not only vigorously opposed the Biden administration and all things “woke,” but has also followed up his attacks against the left with concrete actions, much to the delight of conservatives across America.

It’s also interesting that Trump reportedly gauged DeSantis’s “good job” as doing a good job “about me.”

Trump recently polled a room of visitors at his Bedminster golf club about what they thought of DeSantis, according to a person present for the gathering. I bet you could’ve heard a pin drop, if not a few gulps, with visitors thinking it would in be insane to praise DeSantis in front of The Donald.

So there it is — for now. Is every word of every quote true? Again, dunno, I wasn’t there.

That said, what I do know is a revolving-door reality existed in Trump’s White House.

Administration officials who were initially described by Trump as among the smartest and most accomplished people on the planet, often later resigned or were fired, followed by any number of ad hominem attacks. Among them were Secretary of Defense Jim “Mad Dog” Mattis, Chief of Staff John Kelly, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Attorney General Bill Barr, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, National Security Aide and Deputy Assistant to Trump Sebastian Gorka, Senior Advisor Steve Bannon, White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, and the State Department’s entire Senior Staff.

The point of the above? Play “stupid games” with Donald Trump; win stupid prizes.

Much is yet to be seen as the Republican 2024 run for the White House begins in earnest, the day after the November 2022 midterm elections. As is always the case with politics, particularly with the presidential election more than two years away, there will certainly be twists and turns, some of which will be unsurprising; others that will blow the doors off the popcorn maker.

Given the two heavyweights likely to duke it out, the price of admission will be worth every penny.

London Banks Prepare For Possible Blackouts

Banking and financial firms in London are closely studying and updating contingency electricity supply plans to protect themselves and their customers in case power outages hit the UK this winter.

Some banks are discussing the idea of again encouraging the work-from-home policies from previous Covid lockdowns or using offsite locations, representatives of the trade association UK Finance, coordinating the talks, told Bloomberg.

The UK and the rest of Europe are preparing for potential blackouts this winter, especially if the weather is colder than usual and gas and power shortages strain the grids. Governments in Europe are asking people to conserve energy to avoid rolling outages.

In the City of London, banks are paying closer attention to plans for backup power supply in case of blackouts.

“There is no sense of panic, just everyone is making sure that their ducks are in a row,” Andrew Rogan, director of operational resilience at UK Finance, told Bloomberg in an interview.

This summer, London narrowly avoided a blackout in the eastern part of the city at the end of July. While London and much of the UK were reeling from the hottest day on record in Britain, high power demand and a bottleneck on the grid left parts of East London close to blackout. The UK, however, managed to avoid a blackout in London by buying more electricity from Belgium at a mind-blowing price of $11,812 (£9,724) per megawatt-hour (MWh), which was more than 5,000% higher than the typical price.

Outside the UK, banks across Europe are bracing for energy rationing and possible power outages this winter by getting backup generators ready so that they won’t leave bank transactions and ATMs in the dark if the energy crisis worsens, sources familiar with plans told Reuters earlier this month. As governments in Europe appeal for voluntary gas and electricity conservation and even consider rationing, banks are also bracing for a difficult winter. The banking system is too important for Europe and its economy to be left affected by power outages.

Sixty Labour Members of Parliament (MPs) attended a ‘Labour for the Republic’ event where King Charles III was slammed as a “white privileged male”.

Little consideration seems to have been given to the fact that Western democracies including Norway, the Netherlands, and Sweden have all maintained constitutional monarchies — and few would argue that the powerful monarchies of the Middle East, Saudi Arabia chief among them, are treated with great seriousness by world leaders.

Trump's Classified Disclosure Is Shocking But Legal

Why federal laws that criminalize the revealing of secrets don’t apply to the president.

Oh for the days when Donald Trump wasn’t taking the presidential daily brief – and didn’t know highly classified information that he could give to the Russians. But a bit bizarrely, Trump’s reported disclosure of Islamic State plans to two Russian officials during an Oval Office visit last week wasn’t illegal.

If anyone else in the government, except possibly the vice president, had revealed such classified information that person would be going to prison. The president, however, has inherent constitutional authority to declassify information at will. And that means the federal laws that criminalize the disclosure of classified secrets don’t apply to him.

If this doesn’t make much sense to you, I feel your pain. To understand the legal structure of classification and declassification requires a brief journey into the constitutional law of separation of powers. That’s not always especially fun. But at this juncture in U.S. history, it’s essential. Not since Richard Nixon’s administration has separation of powers been so central to the fate of the republic.

The authority to label facts or documents as classified rests with the president in his capacity as a commander in chief. Or at least that’s what the U.S. Supreme Court said in a 1988 case, Department of the Navy v. Egan.

Justice Harry Blackmun, who wrote the opinion, said that the executive’s “authority to classify and control access to information bearing on national security … flows primarily from this constitutional investment of power in the President and exists quite apart from any explicit congressional grant.”

Blackmun’s idea that the president has an inherent right to decide who gets access to classified information seems to imply the converse: that the president has the inherent authority to declassify information, too. Although there’s no case on this point, scholars took that view during the years of the George W. Bush administration, when the president was thought to have declassified some information that was leaked to the news media by White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby.

It makes sense. If it is up to the president to decide what can’t be disclosed, it should be up to him to decide what can be.

That still leaves the question of whether the president would need to issue a formal order of declassification before revealing the information. According to the report in the Washington Post, Trump pretty clearly didn’t do that: He just made a judgment that he wanted to pass on the information to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Indeed, it seems altogether conceivable that he made the decision in the moment, without thinking through its practical consequences, much less the classification status of the information. (White House National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster denied the Post’s report Monday night, saying, “At no time were intelligence sources or methods discussed, and the president did not disclose any military operations that were not already publicly known.”)

It would be nice to say that, just as the president authorizes classification through a formal executive order, he should have to issue a similar statement to declassify. But that’s probably too formalistic. In constitutional terms, an executive order is just a presidential order reduced to writing for the benefit of the rest of the executive branch. The president likely can’t be bound by an executive order, whether his or an order from the proceeding president.

If you’re following closely, you’ll have noticed an anomaly: The president can classify and declassify. But the president can’t send people to prison for disobeying his order. That requires a federal law passed by Congress, and a conviction before a judge. Thus, under the separation of powers, the president has inherent authority to fire his own employees for disclosing classified information, but lacks the power to punish them criminally without Congress and the courts.

That law exists: 18 U.S. Code Section 798, if you care to look it up. It makes it a federal crime to communicate “classified information” to an “unauthorized person.” The catch is that the law defines classified information as information determined classified by a U.S. government agency, and similarly defines an unauthorized person as someone not determined authorized by the executive branch.

That puts Trump in the clear insofar as he has an inherent authority to declare information unclassified.

The law goes on to criminalize any disclosure of classified information that’s “prejudicial to the safety or interest of the United States or for the benefit of any foreign government to the detriment of the United States.” At first blush that language would seem arguably to apply to Trump’s disclosure. But once again, the clause depends on disclosure of classified information – and Trump can simply say he declassified the information when he gave it to the Russians.

A twist with potential legal relevance might arise if someone else like the leaker of this story repeated classified information after Trump effectively declassified it. That person would have a compelling claim to be exempt from criminal prosecution also. This might matter if Trump decides to go after the leaker criminally.

So go ahead, be shocked by Trump’s disclosure. I know I am. Whether it reflects a studied or instinctive pro-Russian position or simply unthinking bad judgment, it seems to be a highly unusual and poor presidential move. But it’s protected by the constitutional power that comes with getting elected president of the United States.
