Many people still assume the U.S. President is the most powerful person in the world. But times have changed. In recent years we have observed two parallel developments: the President of the United States has lost power while the President of China has gained it.

Xi Jinping did not initiate this transformation, but since becoming China’s president in 2013 he has made the country his own. Xi’s transformation of China began with a campaign against corruption, punishing 1.5 million officials after coming to power, including seven from the top leadership ranks (i.e., the Politburo and ministers) as well as two dozen senior generals. Two leading officials were sentenced to death. The purges and show trials served to eliminate any actual or potential opponents and to concentrate power in Xi’s own hands. They also popularized him among the Chinese people as a strongman.

In November 2021, the Communist Party’s Central Committee passed a resolution “resolutely upholding Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole.” It was only the third time that the Party’s Central Committee had passed a resolution about the Party’s own history.

Nationalist rhetoric justifies Xi efforts to expand China’s current territory. He has already successfully brought Hong Kong into line and jailed the democrats, without triggering any major international reactions, and he wants to bring Taiwan back home to the empire while he is still alive. By asserting sovereignty over the South China Sea, he lays claim to resource-rich areas of Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine makes clear how the international balance of power has shifted. Biden can threaten Putin or beg him; he cannot stop him. Xi Jinping could stop Putin if he wanted to—but he doesn’t want to, because everything is going his way. Putin invaded Ukraine after Xi hosted him at the Winter Olympics in Beijing, where the two issued a joint statement reaffirming their shared worldview. At the time, Putin rightly understood that Western sanctions would not hurt him in the long run, since China would be happy to buy Russia’s gas and oil.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is currently under house arrest, unconfirmed media reports said on Saturday, adding that the capital, Beijing, is currently under the army's control.

The reports, which have not been confirmed by either Chinese credible media, further claimed that international and domestic flights to and from the Chinese capital have been halted, and that the city has been cut off from the rest of the world.

It claims that President Xi Jinping has been put under house arrest after he was removed from the post of PLA chief.

According to News Highland Vision, former Chinese President Hu Jintao and former Prime Minister Wen Jibao persuaded Song Ping, ex-member of the Standing Committee, to join hands with them and take charge of the Central Guard Bureau.

The CGB is reportedly responsible for the security of the President, and the standing committee of the ruling Community Party of China.

Several videos surfaced on the internet from unverified accounts suggesting that large army convoys taking rounds around the city. The tweets also mention that President Jinping has been sacked, further adding that the large army convoy is over 80 km long, heading to Beijing.

The Chinese convoy allegedly started from Huanlai County near Beijing, ending in the city of Zhangjiakou. As Jintao and Jibao took control of the CGB, the rumours suggest the members of the Central Committee were intimated on the phone, leading to Jinping allegedly being detained at the airport when he returned from Uzbekistan's Samarkand.

The reports also stated that the CGB members held closed-door meeting in the past 10 days and that this action was taken with an aim of taking power away from the Chinese President. It alleged that the former PM and President had plotted against Jinping and was a result of Jinping's probability to become the Chinese President for the third consecutive term.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Ahead of a potential hurricane impacting Florida next week, Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday declared a state of emergency for 24 counties, including Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties.

DeSantis issued Executive Order 22-218 and requested a federal pre-landfall emergency declaration in anticipation of impacts from the storm.

The governor said this declaration will make available important resources and support, as well as free up funding sources for emergency protective measures.

Under the emergency order, members of the Florida National Guard will be activated and on standby awaiting orders.

"This storm has the potential to strengthen into a major hurricane and we encourage all Floridians to make their preparations," DeSantis said in a written statement. "We are coordinating with all state and local government partners to track potential impacts of this storm."

Tropical Depression 9 has the potential to strengthen and become a major hurricane in the coming days. The governor sid he is urging Floridians and their families to begin preparing and ensuring their family emergency supply kit is ready and stocked with food, water and medicine.
