Since Bob Saget's tragic death, we've learned about the importance of getting checked out at a hospital after a blow to the head. Recently, actress Dana Delany proved how seriously she took that lesson.

Dana revealed that she suffered a fall down some stairs in her home. As a result, she had a pretty gnarly black eye. But while it's the kind of injury a lot of people would treat with an ice pack, after her friend's death, she decided not to take any chances.

"I fell down some iron stairs head first (totally sober!)," she wrote on Twitter, "& all I could think of was poor Bob Saget."

Her post continued, "So I grabbed the handrail with my face. I was afraid it was fractured but thankfully, no."

Dana was a little bit banged up, but otherwise healed just fine. She kept her sense of humor about the ordeal. "You should see the other guy," she wrote.

Aman who accused Don Lemon of assaulting him nearly three years ago has dropped the case, claiming that he misremembered the facts that led him to file an incendiary lawsuit against the CNN anchor.

On Aug. 11 2019, Dustin Hice filed a complaint against Lemon, alleging that the openly gay journalist had assaulted him inside a popular bar in Sag Harbor, N.Y., where Hice worked as a bartender, in July of the previous year.

In the lawsuit, which was filled with graphic details of abuse, Hice claimed that he offered Lemon a drink, but the CNN host refused.

Later, according to the complaint, Lemon approached Hice, “vigorously rubbed his genitalia,” asked him if he liked “py or dk,” and also treated him “with aggression and hostility.”

The prime-time news host and bestselling author has always “categorically” denied any wrongdoing.

The case began falling apart after some of the witnesses recanted their stories. Additionally, a CNN spokesperson noted that “the plaintiff in this lawsuit has previously displayed a pattern of contempt for CNN on his social media accounts.”

On Monday, weeks after a federal judge ordered Hice to pay $77,000 in legal fees, he formally dropped the lawsuit, alleging that he might have misremembered the entire incident, after all.

“After a lot of inner reflection and a deep dive into my memory, I have come to realize that my recollection of the events that occurred on the night in question when I first met CNN anchor Don Lemon were not what I thought they were when I filed this lawsuit,” Hice said in a statement shared with the media by his attorneys.

“As a result, I am dropping the case,” he added.

Lemon’s attorney Caroline Polisi released a statement Tuesday night calling the suit “a crass money grab from its inception.”

“Thankfully Mr. Hice was finally able to access his memory and recollect the correct version of events on the night when he approached Don Lemon,” she wrote, speaking about the “long and difficult journey” for the CNN anchor.

“Unfortunately, being a gay Black man in the media, he has had to deal with these sorts of attacks for quite some time,” she added

But the ruling “fully vindicates Mr. Lemon and brings an end to this abusive lawsuit.”

Putin asks Macron to help stop Ukrainian ‘war crimes’

The Russian president called on the West to halt weapons deliveries to Kiev

The West can help stop “war crimes” allegedly carried out by Ukrainian forces if it uses its influence over Kiev and ceases the supply of weapons to the country, Russian President Vladimir Putin told his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, according to the Kremlin.

During their phone conversation, which reportedly lasted for more than two hours, Putin congratulated Macron on his recent re-election and updated him on developments in Ukraine, including the evacuation of civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, according to a readout of the call.

Putin claimed EU nations have ignored “the war crimes of the Ukrainian security forces, massive shelling of cities and towns of Donbass, resulting in civilian casualties.”

“It was noted that the West could help stop these atrocities by rendering an appropriate influence on the Kiev authorities, as well as by ceasing its supply of weapons to Ukraine,” the Kremlin said.

As Ukraine and Russia continue to accuse each other of war crimes, on April 30 Macron promised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that France would “reinforce” both military and humanitarian aid to Kiev. Russia, meanwhile, has repeatedly warned Western countries against sending weapons, saying it would only prolong the conflict. Moscow has also made it clear that it would consider any foreign arms on Ukrainian territory as legitimate targets.

The Russian president emphasized that Moscow was still open to dialogue with Ukraine, despite what he called Kiev’s “inconsistency and unpreparedness for serious work.” Ukraine blames Moscow for the deadlock in the talks.

According to the Kremlin, Macron expressed concern over the issue of global food security. The French leader earlier named Russia’s attack on Ukraine as a main reason for a looming food crisis, but Putin claimed the situation had worsened “primarily due to the sanctions” imposed by Western countries on Moscow, and stressed “the importance of the unimpeded functioning of the global logistics and transport infrastructure.”

The Elysee has yet to provide its own readout of two leaders’ conversation.

Pope Francis has said that NATO’s eastward expansion may have provoked Russian President Vladimir Putin into launching an attack against Ukraine.

In an interview published on Tuesday by Italian daily Corriere Della Sera, the pontiff speculated that “the barking of NATO at Russia’s door” could have driven the Kremlin into launching the military campaign on February 24.

“I can’t say if it was provoked, but perhaps, yes,” he said.

Francis also said he requested a meeting with Putin during the early weeks of the conflict, but has still not received a reply. He said he had asked the Vatican’s top diplomat to contact the Russian president about setting up a meeting about three weeks into the hostilities.

"We have not yet received a response and we are still insisting," he told the paper. "I fear that Putin cannot, and does not, want to have this meeting at this time. But how can you not stop so much brutality?" he added.

The pontiff said he had earlier spoken with the head of the Russian Orthodox church, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, for 40 minutes via Zoom. The Patriarch, who has made comments justifying Russia’s offensive in Ukraine, "cannot become Putin’s altar boy,” he insisted.

Francis also told the paper that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban had assured him that Putin had a plan to end the war on May 9, the day when Russia celebrates the 1945 victory over Nazi Germany.

The pope had previously been criticized for not directly censuring Russia in the earliest days of the attack. In March, he called for a “a different way of governing the world” and urged civilization to overcome the reflexive need for “more weapons, more sanctions, more political-military alliances.”

Hungary Definitively Rejects Sanctions On Russian Oil & Gas: We'll Get Supplies "Without Interruption"

As expected, Hungary announced Tuesday that it has shut the door on the possibility of signing on to EU oil and gas sanctions which would only mean hurting itself.

"Hungary will not support sanctions that would make Russian oil and gas shipments to Hungary impossible," Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in Tuesday statement. "Russian gas is supplied to Hungary without interruption," he was quoted as saying.

According to Reuters, "Speaking in Kazakhstan, Szijjarto said Russian oil shipments via the Druzhba pipeline accounted for about 65% of the oil Hungary needed and there were no alternative supply routes that could replace that."

Last month one European diplomat speaking to Politico summed up the situation nicely: “Oil is finally looking doable for Germany,” but it remains “now we have a Hungary problem.” This as Viktor Orbán emerged as the biggest roadblock to EU consensus on seeking to starve Putin's war machine in Ukraine by blocking Russian oil and gas.

But Orbán has for weeks made clear this is a “red line” as banning Russian energy imports would “kill Hungary.”

This past Sunday Hungarian Cabinet Minister Gergely Gulyas told HirTV that an EU-wide ban requires unanimity, and so “it makes no sense for the commission to propose sanctions affecting natural gas and crude oil that would restrict Hungarian procurements”.

“We’ve made it clear that we’ll never support,” Gulyas stressed. Meanwhile, in very curious timing - or rather, perhaps very obvious timing…

As Tsvetana Paraskova for OilPrice.com reviewed earlier, The European Commission is currently discussing the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, and those sanctions are increasingly likely to include an embargo on Russian oil imports that would start by the end of this year. Slovakia and Hungary could be given exemptions or more time to find alternative supply, EU officials told Reuters on Monday, as the EU seeks a united front in sanctions against Russia.

Since the start of the Russian war in Ukraine, the EU has been split on a ban on Russian energy imports. The biggest European economy—Germany—has resisted an immediate oil embargo, saying an oil ban would plunge Germany, and Europe, into a deep recession. While Germany, Hungary, and Austria, as well as some other EU members, have opposed an immediate outright ban on Russian oil, Germany signaled last month that it could end its dependence on Russian oil and stop importing Moscow’s oil entirely by the end of this year. Germany has now reportedly dropped its opposition to a ban, if given time to procure alternatives.

Last week, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said that a full embargo is now “manageable” for Germany and that the country hoped to find a replacement for Russian oil within days. According to Habeck, Germany is now “very, very close” to making a full Russian oil embargo a reality.

The shift in Germany’s position on a Russian oil embargo could encourage other still hesitant EU members to support a ban on Russian oil imports, analysts have said.

The EU energy ministers are meeting for emergency talks on Monday after Russia cut off natural gas supply to Poland and Bulgaria last week. Russia’s demand for ruble payments for gas and a united response to the move will top the agenda, but ministers are expected to discuss an oil embargo, too.

Final Showdown For Azovstal: Firefights Break Out As Azov Fighters Briefly Emerge From Steel Plant

Fierce fighting broke out Tuesday in the largely Russian-controlled southeast city of Mariupol, where for nearly two months some 2,000 Ukrainian Azov fighters and up to hundreds of civilians have been holed up in the gigantic and cavernous Azovstal steel plant, completely surrounded by Russian forces.

After repeatedly demanding the Azov militants lay down their arms and come out, it's believed to be only a matter of time before a final battle, given those trapped inside and underground are said to be running low on food and water, and also crucial ammo.

Ukrainian officials say the site was shelled by Russian forces all night long, with fresh reports from RIA saying that Azov fighters took up firing positions before Russia returned fire. Things had been relatively calm and at a stalemate leading up to this new burst in fighting.

‘Toddlers & Tiaras’ star Kailia Posey dead at 16

“Toddlers & Tiaras” star Kailia Posey has died. She was 16.

Posey’s mom, Marcy Posey Gatterman, announced the news on Facebook Monday.

“I don’t have words or any thoughts. A beautiful baby girl is gone,” she wrote. “Please give us privacy as we mourn the loss of Kailia. My baby forever.”

Gatterman did not share her daughter’s cause of death.

Gatterman had posted photos of Posey, who died in Washington State, attending prom just a few days prior.

Posey was a young star on the TLC reality series, which ran from 2009 to 2013 and featured families who prepared their children to compete in beauty pageants. She became a popular GIF when her evil grin went viral.

Russian and Ukrainian media claim the steelworks has come under heavy artillery fire and aerial bombardment

Fighting has resumed at the Azovstal plant in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, several media outlets reported on Tuesday, with footage circulating on social media featuring plumes of smoke billowing from the steelworks. The escalation appears to put an end to the evacuation ceasefire declared earlier by Russian forces.

The Donetsk People’s Republic accused the Ukrainian military and members of the neo-Nazi Azov regiment holed up at the industrial facility of taking advantage of the evacuation ceasefire and using the lull in the fighting to change positions. The pro-Kiev media, meanwhile, dismissed the accusations as false, claiming the area had been pounded by heavy artillery and bombs overnight, with Russian troops trying to force their way into the facility.

Terror attack foiled near Ukrainian border – Transnistria

An armed drone has been intercepted near a telecom center in a breakaway region of Moldova

A weaponized cargo drone was intercepted overnight near a large telecom center located in the village of Mayak, the Interior Ministry of the self-proclaimed republic of Transnistria said on Tuesday.

The intercepted drone appeared to be a home-made contraption, jury-rigged from different parts, the ministry said.

“The drone with a diameter of one and a half meters was assembled from various components. The equipment was so powerful it could move loads of up to 20 kilograms to a distance of some 30 kilometers from the operator who controlled it,” it added.

The drone carried a canister containing “unknown brown liquid” and a small barrel containing two kilograms of plastic explosives with radio detonators attached. Imagery released by the Transnistrian authorities suggest the drone was also fitted with a payload release system to drop its deadly cargo.

According to the Interior Ministry’s information, the drone’s operators were seeking to use the device to attack a transformer cooling station of the telecom center. If successful, the attack would have knocked out the whole facility at once, the ministry noted, adding that the weaponized drone came into the region “from the Ukrainian side.”

The aircraft was “neutralized” by the border guards deployed to patrol the crucial facility after it was attacked by unknown assailants late in April. Back then, two large radio masts transmitting Russian radio stations were blown up in the center.

In recent days, Transnistria has endured a string of mysterious incidents involving the region’s critical civilian and military infrastructure. Apart from the attacks on the Mayak broadcasting center, Transnistria’s Ministry of State Security was targeted by three unknown assailants, who fired shoulder-mounted rocket launchers at the building, shattering its windows and damaging its façade. Several explosions also occurred at a military compound outside Transnistria’s capital city of Tiraspol.

The president of the self-proclaimed republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky, blamed the incidents he described as “terror attacks” on Ukrainian nationals, urging Kiev to probe the armed groups that had allegedly infiltrated his region.

Transnistria, officially known as the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), is an unrecognized state located along a narrow strip of land between the Dniester River and Ukrainian border in the eastern part of Moldova.

The region broke away from Moldova in the early 1990s, shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The region maintains close ties with Russia, with Russian peacekeepers stationed there and a vast part of the local population holding Russian citizenship.
