Abortion is ‘Sacred’ Says PA Senate Candidate John Fetterman

PA Lt. Governor John Fetterman then called for the filibuster to be thrown out

Pennsylvania Lt. Governor and current U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman, a Democrat, said abortion is “sacred” after Politico reported that the Supreme Court is set to overturn Roe v. Wade. He then called for the filibuster to be thrown out in order to codify abortion rights into law.

“Let’s be clear: The right to an abortion is sacred,” Fetterman wrote in a tweet. “Democrats have to act quickly – get rid of the filibuster to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act + finally codify Roe into law. We cannot afford to wait.”

This sentiment is not new for the Senate hopeful. When asked if there should be “any restrictions” placed on abortion at a campaign event last week, Fetterman said no.

He later implored his followers to donate to an abortion fund.

In response to his tweet, critics asked Fetterman to list the religions in which abortion is “sacred.” Others pointed out that abortion was indeed sacred to the pagan “gods” Moloch and Baal.

Zelensky Claims Ukraine Doesn't Attack Russian Settlements as Border Regions Come Under Fire

Over the past month, Russian authorities in the regions bordering Ukraine have regularly reported shelling with rockets and artillery, and even air raids on border settlements and infrastructure, in particular bridges, by the Ukrainian military. Kiev usually refuses to comment on its involvement in the attacks.

The Ukrainian army does not conduct operations on Russian territory, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with the Arab TV channels Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath, despite numerous cases of shelling of Russian border regions by Ukraine.

According to Zelensky, the conflict is confined to Ukrainian territory and has not spread to Russia, stressing that the Ukrainian military does not conduct combat operations on Russian soil.

He further stated that the military is defending their homeland and has no intention of occupying Russian territory.

In mid-April, following reports by Russian authorities of Ukrainian Mi-24 helicopters firing at an oil base in Belgorod, Russia, Zelensky declined to directly answer the question of whether the pilots had an airstrike order, thus neither confirming nor denying Kiev's involvement.

Meanwhile, on April 29, in the Bryansk region, located north of Ukraine's Chernigov and Sumy regions, the Belaya Berezka border checkpoint was subjected to mortar fire from Ukraine; there were no casualties, as the governor of the region reported. The next day, the governor said that the air defense system of the region prevented Ukrainian Air Force aircraft from entering Russia. In addition, on April 25, the Ukrainian military reportedly fired more than 50 mines at the Troebortnoe checkpoint in Bryansk.

What’s Really Going On In Ukrainian Biolabs Supported By The Pentagon?

“Rather than explain that complex reality to the American people, the administration just wanted to have a fight in the media about it. They wanted to make it a talking point, instead of leveling with the American people.”

That’s how one academic specializing in Russia policy and defense technology — who asked to remain anonymous due to concerns about professional ramifications for speaking candidly — summarized the Biden administration’s handling of Ukrainian biolab conspiracy theories, which began to spread last month after Russia accused the U.S. of developing biological weapons in Ukrainian facilities.

Members of the Biden administration, from White House press secretary Jen Psaki to State Department spokesman Ned Price, flatly denied the accusation, but made no effort to explain to confused or skeptical Americans what these facilities were actually being used for. The result was a vacuum of information, quickly filled by claims that the U.S. was developing bioweapons in these labs, or that Ukraine had a biological weapons program, or that the U.S. was conducting research on old Soviet weapons there.

The man who heads up the Pentagon’s Cooperative Threat Reduction Program (CTR), Dr. Robert Pope, told the Daily Caller none of that is the case.

“We did not find biological weapons when we first started our work with Ukraine, and have not found any since then,” he said.

CTR falls under the umbrella of the Pentagon’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). This is the government agency responsible for coordinating with researchers and laboratories in foreign countries, including some ex-Soviet republics, to eliminate the threat posed by weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), including those left behind by the Soviet Union.

What CTR also does, but does not publicize as well, is monitor virus reservoirs, research labs and other potential sources of a pandemic outbreak and work with countries to safely study and dispose of dangerous pathogens. That, Pope said, is what the agency is actually doing in Ukraine.

“As CTR completed the projects addressing the immediate danger of these Soviet bioweapons facilities, the program shifted to helping these newly-independent countries to develop the laboratories and trained personnel needed to detect and report disease outbreaks before they became a threat to the partner nation or the world,” he explained. “American health security depends on the ability of countries around the world to detect and report disease outbreaks before they reach our homeland.”

This aspect of the DTRA’s mission is not well-advertised. CTR’s own mission statement on state.gov makes no mention of it, focusing only on WMDs: “The Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) seeks to prevent proliferator states and terrorist groups from developing or acquiring Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and delivery systems that could threaten the U.S. homeland and U.S. interests abroad.”

Instead of clarifying, the messaging has been muddled from the start. Many of the false conspiracy theories about the labs stemmed from a Biden administration official’s own words. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland did not deny that there are Ukrainian or American biological weapons in Ukraine when asked during a Senate hearing about the issue, and instead offered a vague explanation about biological research.

“Ukraine has biological research facilities, which, in fact, we are now quite concerned Russian forces may be seeking to gain control of,” she said.

Nobody, from Nuland to Psaki to Price to Biden, ever elaborated on the work DTRA and CTR were doing in Ukraine, how it was beneficial to Americans and that it had nothing to do at this point with biological weapons. When asked directly about the messaging failure from the federal government, even DTRA itself admitted that a better job could have been done.

“You are absolutely correct, explaining more in depth what the CTR program does would help lessen the disinformation confusion that has elevated over the past few weeks,” the agency told the Daily Caller.

he ‘Ghost of Kiev’ or ‘Ghost of Kyiv’ was one of the most oft-repeated stories in the early part of Russia’s war with Ukraine. Western media outlets, television anchors, politicians, and Ukraine flag-in-bio-bros unsparingly littered social media outlets with tales of a secret, super-pilot who was knocking dozens of Russian jets out of the sky.

At the time, anti-war skeptics suspected the tales were pure propaganda or “disinformation”, only to be ruthlessly dismissed as “Putinistas” or similar in the early days of the conflict.

Now, as claims that the ‘Ghost of Kiev’ is dead, Ukraine’s own government as well as military social media accounts and historians are accepting that he never really existed.

“The ghost of Kyiv is a superhero-legend, whose figure was created by Ukrainians!” the nation’s military’s Telegram account announced this week.

“The #GhostOfKyiv is alive, it embodies the collective spirit of the highly qualified pilots of the Tactical Aviation Brigade who are successfully defending #Kyiv and the region,” the Air Force added on Twitter.

Ukrainian military historian Mikhail Zhirohov told the BBC the Ghost of Kiev story was simply “propaganda for raising morale”.

“It’s essential to have this propaganda, because our armed forces are smaller, and many think we can’t be equal to them [the Russians]. We need this in wartime,” he admitted.

The news follows the announcement of the death of Major Stepan Tarabalka, 29.

Tarabalkan was killed in combat on 13 March and honoured with a Hero of Ukraine medal posthumously. Some maintain that Tarabalka was the actual Ghost of Kiev, and that the new claims that he never existed are in fact a way to keep morale up in the face of one a significant loss. Nonetheless, the Ukrainian Air Force now denying that anyone downed up to 40 Russian planes would certainly be a bizarre and disrespectful move if indeed Tarabalka came anywhere close to the legends associated with him.

David Brock, the conservative journalistic hit man turned Hillary Clinton acolyte, described how he first became a reactionary in his 2002 book “Blinded by the Right.” He’d arrived at the University of California, Berkeley, at the dawn of the Reagan era as a Bobby Kennedy-worshipping liberal but grew quickly alienated by the campus’s progressive pieties.

“Rather than a liberal bastion of intellectual tolerance and academic freedom, the campus was — though the phrase hadn’t yet been coined — politically correct, sometimes stiflingly so,” he wrote.

A formative experience was seeing a lecture by Ronald Reagan’s U.N. ambassador, Jeane Kirkpatrick, shut down by left-wing protesters. “Wasn’t free speech a liberal value?” he asked. The more Mr. Brock challenged the left, the more he was ostracized, and the more his resentment pushed him rightward.

By the time he got to Washington, where he became an influential conservative journalist, he’d developed what we might now call an “edgelord” sensibility. He traveled to Chile to write a defense of murderous dictator Augusto Pinochet. “I was flippantly engaging in the extremist one-upmanship that characterized not only me, but many young conservatives of the era,” he wrote.

Of course, not just that era. The dynamic Mr. Brock described — extremist one-upmanship meant to scandalize hated left-wing persecutors — is a major driver of right-wing cultural innovation. That’s why stories about the American New Right (also called the dissident right, national conservatism and neo-reaction) seem so familiar, even if the movement’s ideology is a departure from mainstream conservatism.

Last week, Vanity Fair published James Pogue’s fascinating look at the American New Right’s constellation of thinkers, podcasters and politicians, many funded by Peter Thiel, a tech billionaire who once wrote that freedom and democracy are incompatible. It’s hard to summarize the scene’s politics; a milieu that includes both the aggressively anti-cosmopolitan Senate candidate J.D. Vance of Ohio and the louche hipster podcast “Red Scare” doesn’t have a coherent worldview. What it does have is contempt for social liberalism and a desire to épater le bourgeois.

“It is a project to overthrow the thrust of progress, at least such as liberals understand the word,” Mr. Pogue wrote. One of the movement’s leading intellectual lights is Curtis Yarvin, a blogger who sees liberalism as creating a Matrix-like totalitarian system and who wants to replace American democracy with a sort of techno-monarchy.

According to Mr. Pogue, the movement “has become quietly edgy and cool in new tech outposts like Miami and Austin, and in downtown Manhattan, where New Right-ish politics are in, and signifiers like a demure cross necklace have become markers of a transgressive chic.” This might be an overstatement, but it’s pretty clear that there’s cultural energy in the opposition to the progressive norms and taboos that are derisively called “wokeness.”

BuzzFeed News writer Joseph Bernstein captured this energy in a March article about an anti-woke New York film festival funded by Mr. Thiel and headed by a Black queer provocateur named Trevor Bazile. “Call it, if you must, a vibe shift: a new generation of internet-native tastemakers — like many of the people crowded into Mr. Bazile’s party — who find the moralistic gatekeeping of millennials all a bit passé,” wrote Mr. Bernstein.

This vibe shift was predictable; when the left becomes grimly censorious, it incubates its own opposition. The internet makes things worse, giving the whole world a taste of the type of irritating progressive sanctimony Mr. Brock had to go to Berkeley to find. As a result, an alliance with the country’s most repressive forces can appear, to some, as liberating.

As news of the possibility of infamous Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade being overturned is breaking, pro-abortion Democrats appear to be defending the possibility of a leak from the nation’s High Court.

Lauding the potential “brave clerk” who may have leaked what appears to be a preliminary decision by Justice Samuel Alito to overturn Roe and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, former national press secretary for Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 presidential campaign Brian Fallon said the apparent leaker took the “unpredecented [sic] step of leaking a draft opinion to warn the country what’s coming in a last-ditch Hail Mary attempt to see if the public response might cause the Court to reconsider.”

Fallon was the press secretary during a campaign that saw the death of late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia — at the time one of the Court’s most conservative members — where Democrats attempted to capitalize on the vacancy largely by arguing thar Roe‘s precedent hung in the balance.

The plan backfired, however, and former President Donald Trump secured the victory, enabling him to pick three justices and change the balance of the Court with the passing of late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg — one of the Court’s most liberal justices.

Many who are both pro-life and pro-abortion saw Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization — the subject of the possible leak — as having the most potential for overturning Roe in decades.
