Fire breaks out at old Mile High Stadium

A fire destroyed seats, ceilings and carpeting in the west stands of the famed Mile High Stadium on Saturday in Denver, days after wrecking crews began demolishing it to make way for a parking lot.

The fire burned a 100-by-100-foot section of the second deck, including enclosed seats in the club level. There were no reports of injury.

The Denver Broncos vacated the stadium after the 2000 season to play in their new home, Invesco Field at Mile High. Demolition began last week, and on Friday the landmark scoreboard over the south stands was toppled.

Fire officials had not determined the cause of the fire Saturday night.

Joseph Hernandez, a bystander, said a welder told him he accidentally started the fire. He did not know the welder's name.

Demolition crews were working in the area where the blaze occurred, said Matt Sugar, spokesman for the Metropolitan Football Stadium District, which oversees the new stadium.

Hernandez said an emergency dispatcher didn't believe him when he first reported the fire.

"I called the police to tell them about it and the dispatcher thought I was joking," Hernandez said. "I said, 'No, Mile High Stadium's on fire!' "

Forty-four firefighters responded, extinguishing the blaze within 30 minutes. Fire Lt. Mike Engelbert said the club level, where some furniture and carpeting had not been removed, was heavily damaged.

The stadium's sprinkler system had already been turned off because of the demolition.

The fire never threatened Invesco Field, which stands just a few yards away.

Mile High, revered by Broncos fans, gained a reputation as one of the noisiest and most intimidating stadiums for visiting teams.

Some people watching the fire said it was the stadium's way of giving crowds one more blast of excitement.

"It's only a physical structure, but it still has the last word," said 82-year-old Ivan Rosenberg. "It's always been a place of great activity. You think it's done and it says, 'Hey, watch this.' "

Accused Sarah Lawrence sex-cult leader Larry Ray allegedly tortured one of his victims for hours, suffocating her with a plastic bag after binding her to a hotel chair — and at one point stopped to have burgers and fries with his top lieutenant during the abuse, a witness testified Thursday.

The alleged victim, Claudia Drury, 31, detailed the horrific, seven-hour torture session under questioning by a federal prosecutor at Ray’s racketeering and sex-trafficking trial in Manhattan federal court.

Drury said Ray became enraged at her in October 2018 after she told one of her “main clients,” whom she identified as a man named Stuart Piltch, that Ray published his name on a website associated with her work as a prostitute.

When he found out Drury told Piltch about the website, Ray and his alleged accomplice, Isabella Pollok, came to the Gregory Hotel in Midtown, where she was living and meeting clients, and began to torture her, she told jurors.

In the room, Ray told Drury to strip naked, then cuffed her hands and legs to a chair with handcuffs that she had to use as props with her johns, she said in court.

Over the next seven hours, Ray repeatedly suffocated her with plastic bags, dumped water on her naked body and pushed her near the room’s air conditioner, and smothered her with a pillow.

“I was suffocating. I was terrified. I was trembling. You can’t breathe. You want to breathe a lot. That just makes it much worse. It was terrifying,” she told jurors of the alleged sadistic abuse.

At one point during the torture session, Ray put a collar on Drury’s neck and tightened it with a leash until she nearly passed out, she said.

Pollok allegedly taunted Drury during the abuse, telling her that she was a “faker” and that the water Ray poured over her to lower her body temperature was “room temperature.”

At some point during the alleged torture session, Ray and Pollok stopped and ate dinner, Drury said.

“They ordered burgers and fries from a diner nearby, the Starlight Diner,” she said.

During her testimony, Drury described the list of her “main clients” that was supposed to be filed under seal at trial, but was inadvertently published by the US Attorney’s Office.

Drury said she compiled the list after asking her clients to email her from professional emails, so she could verify their identities.

Larry wanted the list so he could have leverage over the men and threaten to inform their wives, Drury testified.

The threat of that made Drury feel “very, very scared and anxious, almost more than anything else,” she testified.

‘Not Inclusive’: Wisconsin County Supervisor Wants Pledge of Allegiance Gone

A Wisconsin county supervisor has submitted a proposal to remove the Pledge of Allegiance and the word “prayer” from county board meetings, according to a report from Fox 6. “It just doesn’t feel like it’s appropriate for us to be doing, when in a pluralistic society we want to be inclusive and representative,” said Dane County supervisor Heidi Wegleitner. “At the end of the day, I think it’s divisive.”

“This is all in the same city that is home to the Freedom from Religion Foundation,” board member Tim Rockwell said in opposition to the measure. Rockwell told Fox News that prayer allows for the board to be more inclusive while also saying that the county’s religious diversity and pride should be “celebrated and not squashed.”

Wegleitner pointed to surrounding Wisconsin municipalities, including Madison and Waunakee, who do not recite the pledge before board meetings and claimed there are “inconsistencies” with the process. Wegleitner, who represents a district in Madison, likened opposition to saying the pledge to professional athletes who take a knee in support of racial justice movements when the national anthem is played at sporting events.

“There’s other ways to show community and shared values,” Wegleitner said.

The board’s executive committee briefly discussed the proposal during a meeting on Thursday, although the final say would rest with newly elected supervisors after the April 5 election. If the Wisconsin supervisor’s plan to remove the pledge of allegiance fails, she plans to reintroduce the measures to the new board. Madison.com said that the upcoming board is projected to be “the most progressive on record.”

Donald Trump sues Hillary Clinton, others over 2016 Russian collusion allegations

Donald Trump on Thursday sued his rival in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Hillary Clinton, and several other Democrats, alleging that they tried to rig that election by tying his campaign to Russia.

The lawsuit covers a long list of grievances the Republican former president repeatedly aired during his four years in the White House after beating Clinton, and comes as he continues to falsely claim that his 2020 election defeat by Democratic President Joe Biden was the result of widespread fraud.

"Acting in concert, the Defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J. Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty," the former president alleged in a 108-page lawsuit filed in a federal court in Florida.

The suit alleges "racketeering" and a "conspiracy to commit injurious falsehood," among other claims.

A Clinton representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The suit seeks compensatory and punitive damages. Trump said he was "forced to incur expenses in an amount to be determined at trial, but known to be in excess of twenty-four million dollars ($24,000,000) and continuing to accrue, in the form of defense costs, legal fees, and related expenses."

The defendants in Trump's lawsuit include Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer.

Stadium where Denver Broncos play catches fire

DENVER, Colo. (KMGH) — A fire burned a portion of the seating area at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado on Thursday afternoon, sending a large smoke plume above the stadium.

Greg Pixley with the Denver Fire Department said around 2:15 p.m., the department received a report of a fire and fire alarm activation in Mile High.

At the time of the fire, there was an event on the second level involving about 100 people, Pixley said. They were all able to safely leave the area.

Once crews entered the stadium, they found a fire burning in the suite area on level four and in the seating area on the third level, Pixley said. He said the plastic seats produced a dark smoke plume.

According to the Twitter account for Empower Field, the fire broke out in a construction zone. Pixley said he did not know about any maintenance being done at the stadium, but that's something fire investigators will look into.

Pixley said a sprinkler system activated, but firefighters were called in to completely extinguish the fire. He said they were lucky that the sprinklers held the fire "in check" while crews drove to the scene.

About 75 firefighters responded, he said.

The fire was under control as of 2:43 p.m. MDT, but crews are working to determine whether it spread anywhere else, Pixley said. Investigators will determine if the fire caused any structural damage to the stadium.

It burned about 1,000 square feet, Pixley estimated.

The cause of the fire is unknown, DFD said.

Nobody was injured, according to Empower Field and Pixley.

Empower Field at Mile High is the home of the Denver Broncos.

The stadium is also used for other sporting events and concerts during the NFL's offseason.

Hunter Biden Invested In A Pandemic Firm Collaborating With Daszak’s EcoHealth and The Wuhan Lab.

Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners – an investment firm led by Hunter Biden – was a lead financial backer of Metabiota, a pandemic tracking and response firm that has partnered with Peter Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance and the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners (RSTP) was an offshoot of Rosemont Capital, an investment fund founded by Biden and John Kerry’s stepson in 2009, that counted Biden as a Managing Director.

Among the companies listed on archived versions of the firm’s portfolio is Metabiota, a San Francisco-based company that purports to detect, track, and analyze emerging infectious diseases, The National Pulse can reveal.

Financial reports reveal that RSTP led the company’s first round of funding, which amounted to $30 million. Former Managing Director and co-founder of RSTP Neil Callahan – a name that appears many times on Hunter Biden’s hard drive – also sits on Metabiota’s Board of Advisors.

Since 2014, Metabiota has been a partner of EcoHealth Alliance as part of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) “PREDICT” project, which seeks to “predict and prevent global emerging disease threats.”

As part of this effort, researchers from Metabiota, EcoHealth Alliance, and the Wuhan Institute of Virology collaborated on a study relating to bat infectious diseases in China. “Sensitive and broadly reactive RT-PCR assays were performed at Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences,” the paper notes.

The proximity between Hunter Biden and COVID-19’s origins are almost too convenient.

Among the researchers listed on the aforementioned 2014 paper are “bat lady” Shi Zhengli, the Director of the Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases at the Chinese Communist Party’s Wuhan Lab. The disgraced Peter Daszak – recently recused from the Lancet COVID-19 commission due to several conflicts of interest as a “longtime collaborator” of the Wuhan Institute of Virology – is also listed as an author.

Daszak is also a figure central to the potential origins of COVID-19. His EcoHealth Alliance funneled taxpayer dollars from Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to collaborate on bat coronavirus research in Wuhan.

Researchers from EcoHealth Alliance and Metabiota have also collaborated on presentations on how to “live safely with bats” and studies linking emerging infectious disease outbreaks to wildlife trade facilities including “wet markets.”

“Wildlife trade can facilitate zoonotic disease transmission and represents a threat to human health and economies in Asia, highlighted by the 2003 SARS coronavirus outbreak, where a Chinese wildlife market facilitated pathogen transmission,” the 2016 paper notes.

Researchers from Metabiota have also been listed alongside EcoHealth Alliance personnel on a 2014 study on henipavirus spillover, 2014 study on Ebola monitoring, 2015 study focusing on herpes, and 2015 study on viral diversity.

Beyond the ties to EcoHealth Alliance, Metabiota has also been embroiled in controversy for “bungling” America’s response to Ebola.

“An American company that bills itself as a pioneer in tracking emerging epidemics made a series of costly mistakes during the 2014 Ebola outbreak that swept across West Africa — with employees feuding with fellow responders, contributing to misdiagnosed Ebola cases and repeatedly misreading the trajectory of the virus,” an Associated Press (AP) investigation into the company found.

The company reportedly made the “already chaotic situation worse,” prompting World Health Organization officials to criticize the company.

In April 2021, Joe Biden’s USAID announced a new initiative spearheaded by EcoHealth Alliance to track emerging infectious diseases with pandemic potential. Also collaborating on the taxpayer-funded venture is Metabiota, whose researchers have been listed as authors on papers from June 2021 relating to coronavirus surveillance in Africa.
