On Friday, the CBC interviewed New Brunswick 'cyber security expert' David Shipley, who claimed Russians are behind the protests.

he Canadian broadcast media continues to push the conspiracy theory that the Canadian Freedom Convoy truck drivers are being spurred on by Russian agents of chaos, planted to sow dissent among the populace.

In a move reminiscent of the Democrats’ myriad of efforts to smear former president Donald Trump as a Russian asset, the CBC first attempted to raise unfounded claims that “Russian actors” were among the Canadian truckers that have taken to Ottawa.

As previously reported by Rebel News, the protesters have been smeared as “white supremacists” and various other labels portraying them as a “fringe movement.”

In early February, the CBC news anchor Nil Koksal offered Parliament member Marco Mendicino the theory that “Russian actors” were behind the convoy.

“There is concern that Russian actors could be continuing to fuel things as this protest grows. Perhaps even instigating it from the outset,” Koksal said, without substantiating the origin of the theory. Koksal cited Canada's support for Russia-enemy Ukraine as evidence.

The anchor’s remarks set off a storm of backlash on Twitter, where many mocked the talking head for offering unfounded speculation as news, the Daily Mail reported.

On Friday, the CBC continued to push the conspiracy theory, with correspondent Harry Forestell interviewing New Brunswick “cyber security expert” David Shipley, who claims the Russians are behind the protests. Continue…

Two members of the Canadian Armed Forces, who are part of the elite Joint Task Force 2 unit, are reportedly under investigation for allegedly taking part in the Freedom Convoy protest, currently ongoing in Ottawa.

The special forces soldiers are under investigation according to a statement from the Department of National Defence, Canadian state media CBC reported:

Maj.-Gen Steve Boivin, commander of the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command, said the first case came to the attention of senior leaders on Feb. 1, and the other on Feb. 10.

Both members were already in the process of being released from the Canadian Armed Forces and were supporting the protest “in some form or another,” he said.

A source who spoke to the broadcaster under the condition of anonymity said that the two members are part of JTF2, which is Canada’s special forces unit dedicated to counter-terrorism, protective service and special reconnaissance.

Starting with Scott Moe, provincial premiers began speaking out against the federal government’s potential plan to invoke the Emergencies Act in response to Freedom Convoy protests.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe has been making headlines recently, first for standing in support of the truckers convoy, then for being the first premier in Canada to announce an end to vaccine passports in their province.

A few other Canadian premiers followed shortly after, with Progressive Conservative Premier Heather Stefanson announcing the planned loosening of restrictions in Manitoba as well.

Minister's husband's companies awarded hundreds of millions in federal COVID contracts

Three companies – LifeLabs, Dynacare and Switch Health – were awarded federal contracts to manage COVID related testing and screening for a total of $631 million.

Some of you may recall Anita Anand, the Liberal MP serving as minister of defence, that hosted an event in Cobourg, Ontario last September that I attempted to attend as media. The email invitation to the $500/ticket event stated that the “Liberal Party is committed to openness and transparency… that they are committed to the strongest standards in federal politics for open and transparent fundraising events (including media coverage).”

However, I was prevented access and Anand showed up one hour late to her own one and a half hour slotted event.

Her personal driver sped past me in a tinted-out Cadillac CTS, an executive luxury vehicle, whose tint appeared to be more than the 30% allowable visible light transmission rate set out by the Ontario Highway Safety Act.

The driver tried to get Anand as close to the entrance as possible while she ran inside, all that effort so she could skirt a simple question from an independent journalist. That is how committed to openness and transparency the Liberal government is.

Now serving as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's minister of national defence, Anand apparently inadvertently awarded her husband’s company hundreds of millions of dollars in COVID related contracts over 18 competitors.

Anand’s husband, John Knowlton, is the senior managing director and business manager at OMERS Infrastructure (Ontario Municipal Employees’ Retirement System) and the executive vice president of it’s subsidiary, Borealis Infrastructure.

He is also on the board of directors for LifeLabs and Teranet Inc.

Last June, LifeLabs was given $66,307,424.00 worth of contracts from the government, including fees to manage COVID-19 test kits for foreign travellers entering into Canada. A month later, it received another $1.9 million contract. This was during the same time period that Anand was the minister of public Service and procurement.

Three companies — LifeLabs, Dynacare and Switch Health — were awarded federal contracts to manage COVID-related testing and screening for a total of $631 million. Of that, LifeLabs provided testing services to British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Yukon with a contract of up to $111 million.

LifeLabs went from doing minimal amounts of business with the federal government in 2019 to receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts. As early as December 2021, it appeared that Anand did not disclose that her husband is a director of LifeLabs, under the Conflicts of Interest Act.

Despite this, Anand claims to have had no part in the decision making process and the signing was appointed to the minister of employment, Carla Qualtrough.

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association has broken its silence to condemn the Trudeau government’s move to restrict personal liberties for protesting truck drivers who participate in traffic blockades.

Earlier today, Justin Trudeau and his cohorts in the federal government invoked the Emergencies Act, effectively curtailing freedoms for Canadians that comes with the ability for banks and other financial institutions to freeze personal and corporate funds without a court order, the targeting of cryptocurrencies, and many other restrictions. Some of the measures are permanent.

In a series of posts on Twitter, the CCLA declared that Trudeau and his government failed to meet the necessary requirements to invoke the Emergencies Act, which has never been invoked prior. Its precursor, the War Measures Act, was invoked by Trudeau’s father, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, in 1970 in response to terrorism.

“The federal government has not met the threshold necessary to invoke the Emergencies Act. This law creates a high and clear standard for good reason: the Act allows government to bypass ordinary democratic processes. This standard has not been met,” the CCLA wrote.

“The Emergencies Act can only be invoked when a situation ‘seriously threatens the ability of the Government of Canada to preserve the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Canada’ [and] when the situation ‘cannot be effectively dealt with under any other law of Canada,’” the civil rights organization continued. A new national telephone and online survey by Rasmussen Reports finds that 59% of Likely U.S. voters support the Canadian trucker protest, including 42% who Strongly Support the “Freedom Convoy.” Thirty-three percent (33%) of voters oppose the trucker protest against Canada’s COVID-19 restrictions, including 21% who Strongly Oppose the protest. Trudeau’s State Media Labels 'Freedom' A "Far-Right" Concept

One day before Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked emergency powers to crack down on anti-vaccine mandate protesters, state media outlet CBC published material claiming that ‘freedom’ is now a “far right” concept.

A CBC article argues that freedom is now a “malleable term” and is “open to interpretation,” citing its use by the Canadian trucker convoy, which the piece suggests is a far right movement.

CBC quotes Barbara Perry, the director of the Centre on Hate, Bias and Extremism at Ontario Tech University, who claims freedom “is a term that has resonated…. You can define it and understand it and sort of manipulate it in a way that makes sense to you and is useful to you, depending on your perspective.”

Perry wheeled out the inevitable January 6th comparison, stating “I think it… maybe takes some inspiration from what we’ve been seeing in the U.S. over the last year and a half or so, leading up to the last election and events of Jan. 6.”

The article also quotes another “expert”, Elisabeth Anker, an associate professor of political science at George Washington University, who argues that “Freedom is a slippery concept.”

Anker states “On the far right, [individual freedom] is often translated into somebody who refuses to be bound by norms of equality, treating all people equally or norms to remedy inequality, whether that’s trying to remedy racial discrimination or gender discrimination.”

The “professor” also said that when right wingers exercise their rights it is “violent freedom,” that can easily lead to danger, discrimination and be anti-democratic.

CBC is the same network that has been pushing crackpot misinformation including the notion that the truckers are really Russian agents.

Another Canadian media outlet, the Globe & Mail also jumped aboard the ‘freedom is hate’ bandwagon with this piece:

The author Gary Mason states that freedom is “a word that has become code for white-identity politics and the far-right’s weapon of choice in the culture wars,” adding that it “has not always been a concept usurped for selfish, malicious purposes.”

TD Bank Freezes Bank Accounts Connected to 'Freedom Convoy' Protest

TD Bank confirmed that it has frozen the bank accounts that had $1.1 million paid to them to support the trucker-led protests in Canada.

A spokesperson for TD Bank told news outlets on Feb. 12 that the financial institution appealed to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice to obtain the funds with the intention of returning the cash to donors "who have requested refunds but whose entitlement to a refund cannot be determined by TD."

One of the bank accounts received a lump sum of $1 million in Canadian currency via GoFundMe, while the restabout $300,000 Canadian dollarswas sent to a second account through several bank electronic transfers, a TD spokesperson told Reuters. The act also allows the government to order the provision of "essential services" by any person and to impose emergency fines or imprisonment for violating orders. It has never been used since being enacted in 1988 and is meant for an "urgent and critical situation, temporary in nature, that endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians," according to a government memo.

Calling the upcoming “digital ID” system “the foundation” that will “enable easier access to online services and make Ontario one of the world’s most digitally advanced jurisdictions,” the government states that this new system will allow more “businesses that require customer identification” to “move their services online,” furthering society’s transition from real life into the centralized digital realm.

According to Ontario, “The pandemic has also taught us that contactless in-person service options (such as tap-to-pay instead of entering a PIN on a terminal) can help keep us safe,” while mentioning that the system will also be used to “open a bank account” and “access and use vaccination records.”

SURREY, B.C.—A massive police surge late in the evening on Feb. 14 ended a protest in Surrey, B.C., which began after local RCMP blocked access to the Pacific Highway border crossing two days earlier.

The Canada Border Services Agency says traffic is now moving at the border crossing.

Several dozen police officers joined dozens of other officers already on the scene, and together they moved in to clear the protesters who remained in the area.

A large group of demonstrators opposed to vaccine mandates protested at the border crossing on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13, which police said was mostly peaceful apart from some people crossing police barricades and driving in the opposite direction on 176 Street.

Police have made several arrests at the protest site, but haven’t confirmed the number of arrests.

A man who arranged security for the protesters and businesses in the area, who did not provide his name, said he saw approximately two dozen people arrested after police moved in on the evening of Feb. 14.

Police then advanced to the camp headquarters two blocks north and told protesters and their supporters to clean up the camp and leave or face arrest and confiscation of their property and supplies, he said.

Some protesters said there was a tense stand-off between police and demonstrators.

Ottawa’s police board said it would hold a public meeting to address the matter today at 2:30 p.m.

The news comes amid the ongoing protests in Ottawa against the government’s COVID-19 mandates.

The protests were initiated by truck drivers opposed to COVID-19 vaccination mandates for cross-border travel. As convoys of truckers made their to Ottawa, many supporters joined the movement, which turned into a large-scale protest against all COVID-19 mandates and restrictions.

Many protesters who converged into Ottawa on Jan. 29 say they intend to stay in the capital until COVID-19 mandates are lifted.

The city of Ottawa, province of Ontario, and the federal government have declared states of emergency over the protests.

Canada Marks 40 Years Since the Ocean Ranger Sinking

It’s been 40 years since the semi-submersible drilling rig Ocean Ranger sank off the coast of Newfoundland during an intense North Atlantic storm with the loss of all 84 crew members, resulting in one of the offshore industry’s worst disasters.

The mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) sank approximately 166 miles east of St. John’s, Newfoundland after it was struck by a large wave early in the morning on February 15, 1982. A distress message was sent from the rig a little after 1 a.m.: “WE ARE THE ODECO OCEAN RANGER… AND WE ARE EXPERIENCING A SEVERE LIST OF ABOUT 10-15 DEGREES AND ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A SEVERE STORM… WE WILL STAND BY AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.”

Only 22 bodies were ever recovered.

A U.S. Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigation determined the cause of the casualty to be the failure of ballast control room portlight(s) in seas up to 50 feet. The failure allowed seawater to enter the ballast control room, likely causing an electrical malfunction that set off a chain of events resulting in the capsizing and sinking of the rig. Investigators also found the rig had a lack of survival suits, inadequate lifeboat launching systems, and ineffective life rafts. Nearby vessels were also not equipped to rescue casualties from the water, especially in the prevailing weather conditions.

Most of the crew is believed to have died from drowning or hypothermia.

A separate Canadian royal commission inquiry found that the Ocean Ranger had several design flaws and its crew lacked proper safety training and equipment, which could have prevented the severe loss of life.

Months after the incident, a salvage team refloated and towed the rig to deeper water, where it was sunk.

The incident also contributed to major regulatory changes within Canada’s offshore industry and beyond, including the formation of the Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board (known today as the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board).

The federal government has not met the threshold necessary to invoke the Emergencies Act. This law creates a high and clear standard for good reason: the Act allows government to bypass ordinary democratic processes. This standard has not been met.

The Emergencies Act can only be invoked, according to its own terms, when a situation “seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it,” or “seriously threatens the ability of the Government of Canada to preserve the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Canada” and when the situation “cannot be effectively dealt with under any other law of Canada.”

The Emergencies Act is there to address these kinds of extreme threats to Canada, not to protect the economy.

Governments regularly deal with difficult situations, and do so using powers granted to them by democratically elected representatives. Emergency legislation should not be normalized. It threatens our democracy and our civil liberties.

Employees at a Burlington, Ontario bakery are being harassed online and at their place of business after it was revealed that one of the owners donated to the Freedom Convoy fundraiser.

In an interview with True North, Kelly’s Bake Shoppe co-owners Erinn Weatherbie and Kelly Childs stood by their $1,000 donation but say they are dismayed by the harassment they are now receiving from angry members of the public.

Weatherbie and Childs told True North about one such encounter, where a middle-aged man confronted their all-female staff over the donation at 6:15 pm on Tuesday evening.

“A man entered the bake shop and waited in line as if he was going to place an order. When one of our staff members had a chance to help him out and welcome him to the shop, he basically aggressively responded to them,” said Weatherbie.

“He said ‘Did you donate $1,000 to the trucker convoy? Do you support traitors? It’s all over social media. Were your staff involved in donating?’ He was very aggressive, and he also kept one of his hands in his pocket the whole time.” Continue…

Thursday morning, Ottawa bylaw officials announced that anyone participating in the on-going protests, which began over two weeks ago, could risk having their pets seized. The move to threaten pet-owners follows increased efforts by both the city and federal authorities to bring an end to the truck drivers’ protests over Canadian vaccine mandates.

“If you are unable to care for your animal as a result of enforcement actions, your animal will placed into protective care for 8 days, at your cost,” warned Ottawa bylaw on Twitter. “After 8 days, if arrangements are not made, your animal will be considered relinquished.”

While it’s unclear what the government officials mean by the term “relinquished,” the warning garnered outrage on social media, with many expressing dismay over the city’s threat.

The move to threaten protesters comes as Ottawa police and bylaw officials hand out notices to truck drivers still camped out near Parliament Hill at Wellington Street and R. O’Connor Street. Despite the warnings, protesters are yet to vacate the area.

Jordan Peterson investigated by psychologists’ college for insensitive tweet

Prominent Canadian psychologist and author Dr. Jordan B. Peterson has announced that the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) is investigating him after he told someone who was concerned about overpopulation that he was “free to leave at any point.”

The offending tweet, said Peterson, was directed at McGill University medicine professor Roger Palfree, though Peterson said it was not Palfree who complained to the CPO.

“Based on the record of human behaviour, we are already overpopulating this small world,” Palfree tweeted on Jan. 2. “Any arguments I have heard for supporting such a large human population completely overlook the loss of species and ecosystems resulting from our self-absorbed attention.”

“You’re free to leave at any point,” Peterson replied.

The investigation by CPO will conclude in six months, said Peterson, though he added, “I refuse to defend myself against such things anymore. It takes days of work to mount such a defence.”

CPO serves as the governing body for psychologists and psychological associates in Ontario. Peterson said that many professions have a governing body and that those bodies become weaponized.

He added that the investigation process itself serves as the punishment and that people who submit complaints “know this full well.”

Peterson said that he would not be participating in CPO’s investigation, and he encouraged the governing body to take his licence if they wanted.

“I’ve helped perhaps millions of people with my lectures and books,” he said. “But any one person anywhere can complain to the college about anything I’ve done and threaten my licensure, smear my reputation and tie me up in red tape.”

Peterson has had prior dealings with the CPO, including an allegation of professional misconduct in 2018.

The CPO could not be reached for comment in time for publication.

Justin Trudeau’s crackdown on protests under an Emergencies Act order specifically exempts refugees, asylum seekers, immigrants and other ethnic minorities.

The Canadian government’s Emergency Measures Regulations: SOR/2022-21 order bans people from taking part “in a public assembly that may reasonably be expected to lead to a breach of the peace.”

However, the law does not apply to “any person in a class of persons whose presence in Canada, as determined by the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration or the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, is in the national interest.”

This includes Indians, refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers and ‘protected temporary residents’.

The exemptions have left some people asking if the prohibition order only applies to white people.

“Why are members of First Nations, refugees and temporary residents exempted from the prohibition to ‘participate in a public assembly that may reasonably be expected to lead to a breach of the peace’ as part of the Emergencies Act regulations?” People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier tweeted.

It appears as though the Canadian government views native Canadians as second class citizens who should have fewer rights than foreigners.

Cyberterrorist takes credit for hacking GiveSendGo and releasing Freedom Convoy donor info

Hacker Aubrey Cottle bragged about his cyber attack, but some believe he was working with the Canadian government and law enforcement to expose the names of contributors.

(LifeSiteNews) — A self-proclaimed cyberterrorist has taken credit for hacking the Christian crowdfunding site GiveSendGo and releasing the names of those who donated money to the Canadian truckers’ Freedom Convoy, leading to some donors being harassed.

In a series of unhinged TikTok video rants, hacker Aubrey Cottle gleefully proclaimed, “I doxed the truckers. I did it. It was me!”

“I hacked GiveSendGo, baby, and I’d do it again!” screeched Cottle, who also goes by the name Kirtaner.

“I did it, I did it,” screamed the crazed hacker at his victims. “Come at me, what are you going to do to me, huh?

“This is Aubrey Cottle. He hacked GiveSendGo and he doesn’t care if anyone knows it,” tweeted journalist Ian Miles Cheong, editor of Human Events. “He’s live on TikTok bragging about doxing and releasing the info that’s currently getting thousands of people fired from their jobs for donating to the Freedom Convoy.”

Cottle went further, announcing, “I hacked Epic Hosting! I hacked Parler! I hacked GAB! I hacked Truth Social! I hacked GiveSendGo! I don’t care!”

“I’m literally a famous f*cking cyberterrorist,” he declared.

In another TikTok video Cottle seemed to beg for a violent confrontation with Canadian truckers.

“Cottle is a left-wing extremist who took credit for the hack (and displayed his severe mental instability) in a TikTok proclamation where he bragged about his success,” wrote Sundance at The Conservative Treehouse (TCT).

But Cottle apparently was not working as a lone wolf, and some believe his assertion that now, as in the past, he is working tacitly with Canadian government and law enforcement agencies.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) contracted Cottle to “dox and honeypot Freedom Convoy, without justification,” suggested The Hyphen-Report’s John George.

Cottle is a “known federal asset” who “has a self-admitted history of working with various police or intelligence services from the RCMP to the FBI to French ‘authorities’ to Interpol,” explained George. Continue…
