NAR: Existing-Home Sales Decreased to 5.85 million in April
Existing-home sales waned in April, marking three straight months of declines, according to the National Association of Realtors®. All but one of the four major U.S. regions witnessed month-over-month drops in home sales, but each registered double-digit year-over-year gains for April.
Total existing-home sales, completed transactions that include single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, slipped 2.7% from March to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 5.85 million in April. Sales overall jumped year-over-year, up 33.9% from a year ago (4.37 million in April 2020).

Total housing inventory at the end of April amounted to 1.16 million units, up 10.5% from March's inventory and down 20.5% from one year ago (1.46 million). Unsold inventory sits at a 2.4-month supply at the current sales pace, slightly up from March's 2.1-month supply and down from the 4.0-month supply recorded in April 2020. These numbers continue to represent near-record lows. NAR first began tracking the single-family home supply in 1982.

Cryptos Crash After China Again Vows Crackdown On Mining And Trading
Another day, another attempt by China - where the reception of the digital yuan has been a total disaster so far much to Beijing's complete humiliation - to crash Crypto, with Reuters and Bloomberg reporting moments ago that just two days after the PBOC barred financial institutions from accepting bitcoin as payment, China's vice premier Liu He said (at 11pm on Friday local time) that China will crack down on bitcoin mining and trading activities, which of course is what we already knew.

And From Bloomberg: CHINA REITERATES CALL FOR CRACKDOWN ON BITCOIN MINING, TRADING
o China will reiterate, i.e., repeat what it has said, the same news every day until bitcoin hits 0? Or at least it hopes to, and somehow this is supposed to inspire confident in the digital Yuan?
What is funny is that a month ago it was Peter Thiel who grabbed headlines with his laughable conclusion that bitcoin was helping China to end the reserve status of the dollar. How about now, Peter, is China's crushing bitcoin to boost the dollar? Inquiring minds want to know.
Incidentally, a cynical take of this report is that it is great news as it means no more dirty coal bitcoin mining in Xinjiang. How will the ESG cult bash bitcoin now?
As a reminder, China is the bitcoin bears biggest friend: as long as bitcoin can be mined in China it is "dirty." Once China bans bitcoin mining there, the anti-ESG case collapse.
In any case, the news was enough to spark another algo-driven liquidation as the robots apparently have a 15 nanosecond memory and have forgotten that China has said all this and more both a few days ago as well as years ago when it first cracked down on crypto and banned bitcoin and its peers on the mainland.
And stocks follow cryptos lower, as China now appears to also be attacking the US stock market - which has become joined at the hip with crypto.

U.S. Congress to hold hearing on SPACs, ramping up scrutiny
U.S. lawmakers are ramping up scrutiny of special purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs, with a hearing set for Monday as they consider legislation aimed at curbing liability protections for the industry.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has heightened its focus on SPACs in recent months through a series of public statements, new guidance and a Wall Street bank inquiry led by the agency’s enforcement team. Republican Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana last month introduced a bill aimed at boosting transparency for investors in SPACs. SPACs are shell companies that raise money via a listing to acquire a private company with the purpose of taking it public, sidestepping a traditional initial public offering (IPO) process. Critics say banks and SPAC sponsors have reaped big payoffs at a cost to later-stage investors.
Monday’s hearing in a House Financial Services subcommittee is aimed at SPACs, direct listings and IPOs, according to a hearing notice published on May 19. The House is considering legislation that would redefine “blank check company” from a key 1995 law to include special purpose acquisition companies, according to the notice. The law created a safe harbor that protects listed companies from shareholder litigation provided forward-looking statements are made in good faith, identified as such and couched in cautionary language. The safe harbor does not protect IPOs or certain blank check companies, but sponsors have generally operated on the basis that it does apply to SPAC deals, and have leaned on it heavily to issue growth projections. The SEC has been mulling guidance that would curb these projections, Reuters reported earlier this month.
The prospects for the bill to become law are unclear, but it signals growing Congressional attention on the industry.

Child sex trafficking about to be exposed among the Harris County Constable's Office?
TEXAS - Harris County Precinct 1 deputy who died by suicide was being investigated for child sex abuse, police say
Liberty County – A Harris County Precinct 1 Deputy who died by suicide was also being investigated for several allegations of sexual abuse involving minors, according to the Alvin Police Department.
On Wednesday morning, after an attempted traffic stop in north Liberty County, Precinct One Deputy Constable Robert Johnson sparked a standoff with deputies and threatened to take his own life.
Alvin police said during the standoff, Johnson made several phone calls and confessed to the allegations of sexually assaulting minors. Police said he also implicated other adults in the sexual abuse.
After several hours, police said Johnson took his own life.
Police said the sexual abuse allegations were being investigated by several agencies including Alvin police, Texas Rangers, the FBI, and the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office.
“Robert Johnson did some terrible things and he will meet his maker to answer for that. I am here to tell anyone who harms children in this case or any case that the good law enforcement officers are coming for you. I can tell you I am here to speak and stand for the victims today, tomorrow and for years to come,” Constable Alan Rosen said in a statement to KPRC 2.
Due to the claims Johnson made about other adults being involved in the sexual abuse of minors, Alvin police said they are continuing their investigation and say criminal charges against other people could be forthcoming.

Mexico to get new central bank chief with 'social dimension' -president
Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Friday that he will not propose a new term for the current central bank governor and will instead nominate an economist with a “social dimension.” Central Bank governor Alejandro Diaz de Leon’s current mandate at the helm of the bank concludes on Dec. 31. Lopez Obrador, speaking at his regular news conference, said Diaz de Leon’s term will be “over” and he will nominate a “prestigious” economist for the post. “It will be an economist with a social dimension, very in favor of moral economics,” Lopez Obrador said.
The new bank governor will be “a professional who will meet the requirements of having experience in economic and financial matters,” he also said. Mexico’s peso weakened extended losses to 0.4% after Lopez Obrador’s comments. Lopez Obrador has taken aim in recent days at Diaz de Leon, who was appointed under the previous government, blaming him for the bank’s failure to garner an operating surplus in 2020, which the government had hoped to put to use. Lopez Obrador, who frequently criticizes previous governments, has said the central bank did not approve of his administration. The majority of its board, however, were appointed under his presidency.
Lopez Obrador’s proposed head of the bank must be approved by Mexico’s Senate.

Tokyo Olympics can be held under state of emergency: IOC's Coates
The Tokyo Olympics can be held this summer even if the Japanese capital is under a coronavirus state of emergency, a top official of the International Olympic Committee suggested Friday.
"The answer is absolutely yes," John Coates, an IOC vice president, told a remote press conference when asked whether the Tokyo Games can be delivered under the emergency situation, citing how Japan "successfully" conducted test events recently.
Seiko Hashimoto, president of the Japanese organizing body, said the organizers expect around 230 doctors and 310 nurses will be needed per day during the Olympics and Paralympics. She said the organizers assume between 50,000 and 60,000 coronavirus tests per day will be conducted for athletes, as well as officials and workers during the games. The comments were made upon the conclusion of a three-day virtual meeting between the Japanese organizers and the IOC's Coordination Commission, which oversees the preparations for the games.
With just two months remaining until the opening of the Olympics, the organizers have faced growing public concern that staging the global sporting event in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic could further overstretch Japan's health care system.
Since late April, Tokyo and some other areas in the country have been under a third COVID-19 state of emergency, which calls for people to refrain from making unnecessary outings. While the measure is scheduled to end on May 31, experts have called for another extension as the situation has not drastically improved.
On Friday, Japan's top government COVID-19 adviser said the organizers must decide whether to go ahead with the games after scrutinizing their potential impact on the country's medical system.

In today’s Georgia audit hearing, Henry County, GA judge, the Honorable Brian J. Amero, ruled that Plaintiffs (VoterGA.org, Garland Favorito et al) will be allowed access to the physical mail-in ballots in Fulton County, which could show massive election fraud in GA during the 2020 presidential election cycle, and the follow-on runoff that decided control of the U.S. Senate for the Democrat Party, leading to full control of the American government.
In the hearing, lawyers for VoterGA.org described large discrepancies (21%) between the number of ballot batches reported by the GA Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger who certified the election, and the number of ballot batches actually provided by court-ordered access in the previous April hearing in the case.
VoterGA.org has been examining the ballot images at a low resolution since the hearing in April, and declared they need the actual physical ballots to understand the number of counterfeit ballots certified.
Fulton County attorneys pushed for a sampling of the ballots instead of access to all of the ballots. They particularly objected to access to physical ballots.
Fulton County attorneys also objected to expert witnesses testifying the number of ballot batches certified by Secretary of State Raffensperger in the previous ‘risk limiting audit’ were significantly different from the actual number of ballot image batches that were provided by state and county officials in court-ordered discovery in April.
Shockingly, attorneys for Fulton County declared ‘the county has no control over its election tablulation process.’ [Sounds a lot like Maricopa County, AZ]
A high number of ballots appear to have been counted twice,” declared the expert witness. There was an error rate in the batch data of 21%”
The ‘risk limiting audits’ conducted previously in the state of GA by SoS Raffensperger were shown in today’s hearing to be severely compromised.
The GA Attorney General’s office testified citizens have no right to audit the vote.
The results of ballot analysis in this case could show the U.S. Senate, and the presidency of the United States, were fraudulently certified.
