US reverses on pledge not to renew Russian oil waiver

The US has renewed a sanctions exemption allowing Russian crude and petroleum products already loaded onto tankers to be delivered and sold freely, the US Treasury Department has announced. The move came despite a pledge by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made two days prior that the waiver would not be extended.
On Friday, the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control issued a general license covering Russian oil loaded onto vessels as of April 17 and authorizing transactions through May 16. The waiver replaces an earlier 30-day order – which took effect on March 19 – and extends to services including safe docking, crew safety, emergency repairs, and insurance, even for previously sanctioned vessels.

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor is an ideological advocacy NGO led by Palestinians alleged by Israel to be linked to Hamas. The organization uses the facade of human rights and focuses primarily on demonizing Israel, with no publicly available information on its budget or funding sources. The repeated allegations directed at Israel, including accusations of “organ theft,” as well as “genocide,” “ethnic cleansing,” “collective punishment,” are not supported by evidence.
In contrast, EMHRM systematically echoes and amplifies denials of Palestinian abuses and war crimes where the evidence is readily available, such as using Al-Shifa medical complex and other hospitals in the Gaza Strip for terror. In addition, social media posts by EMHRM officials systematically promote claims that delegitimize Israel and Zionism.
EMHRM also mixes political propaganda with blood libels and other forms of antisemitism, such as the organ theft charges, accusations of “slow poisoning of [Palestinian] children,” and declarations that “the legacy of the Holocaust lent uncritical credence to the Zionist narrative.” Richard Falk, Chair of EMHRN’s Board of Trustees and featured on the NGO’s website, is a 9/11 conspiracy theorist and has been widely denounced for his antisemitic statements.
Hamas Terror Links: Ramy Abdu and Mazen Kahel, respectively current and former chairman of EMHRM, were listed by the Israel Ministry of Defense in 2013 as “main operatives” for institutions considered by Israel to be fronts for Hamas in Europe.
EMHRN appears in the European Union’s transparency register of “‘interest representatives” who “carry out activities to influence the EU policy and decision-making process” (emphasis in original).

Russian security chief issues drone attack warning to four NATO states
Sergey Shoigu has cautioned Finland and the Baltic states against allowing Kiev to use their airspace for attacks on Russia
Russia has the right to retaliate if Finland and the Baltic states are found to be deliberately allowing Ukrainian drones to pass through their airspace, Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu warned on Thursday.
“Recently, there has been an increase in Ukrainian drone strikes against Russia via Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia,” Shoigu told journalists. “As a result, civilians are suffering and significant damage is being caused to civilian infrastructure.”
Either Western air defenses are proving ineffective, or these four countries “deliberately provide their airspace, thereby becoming open accomplices in aggression against Russia,” he added. In the latter case, Moscow has the right to self-defense in response to an “armed attack” under Article 51 of the UN Charter, the security chief stressed.
In recent weeks, Kiev has intensified drone strikes on Russia in what Moscow has characterized as “terrorist attacks,” with the Russian military regularly reporting hundreds of UAVs downed in a single night.
Late last month, Kiev attacked Russia’s Baltic Sea ports of Ust-Luga and Primorsk with swarms of UAVs. The raids resulted in fires in both towns, which house extensive petrochemical infrastructure.
Kremlin aide Nikolay Patrushev said he believed that Finland and the Baltic states were “complicit in these crimes.” The provision of national airspace for Ukrainian drone strikes would “signify direct NATO participation” in attacks on Russia, he said Monday.
Multiple Ukrainian drones have also struck the territories of Finland and the three Baltic states since early March. Despite this, all four nations have avoided condemning Kiev outright for violating their airspace.
Moscow has already formally warned Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia against allowing Ukraine to send drones via their territory, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said last week. “If the regimes in these countries are smart enough, they will listen. If not, then they will have to deal with the consequences,” she said.

U.S. Forces Disable Vessel Attempting to Enter Iranian Port, Violate Blockade
TAMPA, Fla. – U.S. forces operating in the Arabian Sea enforced naval blockade measures against an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel attempting to sail toward an Iranian port, April 19.
Guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) intercepted M/V Touska as it transited the north Arabian Sea at 17 knots enroute to Bandar Abbas, Iran. American forces issued multiple warnings and informed the Iranian-flagged vessel it was in violation of the U.S. blockade.
After Touska’s crew failed to comply with repeated warnings over a six-hour period, Spruance directed the vessel to evacuate its engine room. Spruance disabled Touska’s propulsion by firing several rounds from the destroyer’s 5-inch MK 45 Gun into Touska’s engine room.
U.S. Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit later boarded the non-compliant vessel, which remains in U.S. custody.
American forces acted in a deliberate, professional, and proportional manner to ensure compliance. Since the blockade’s commencement, U.S. forces have directed 25 commercial vessels to turn around or return to an Iranian port.

This is quite possibly the greatest conversation I have ever listened to. From someone who has been interested in plant-based psychedelic therapy since 2019, I have never felt stronger that we are on the cusp of breaking through all of the bureaucracy and will finally be able to help heal those who truly need it. Using an Oman-registered company, Atlas International Business, she allegedly arranged the sale of Iranian-made Mohajer-6 armed drones (one contract worth over $70 million), 55,000 bomb fuses, bombs, and millions of rounds of ammunition to Sudan’s Ministry of Defense — all routed through Turkey and the UAE to evade detection.
The deals ran as recently as 2025, fueling Sudan’s civil war in violation of a U.N. arms embargo.
Mafi is a 44-year-old Iranian national and U.S. green card holder living in Woodland Hills, CA, and was arrested Saturday night at Los Angeles International Airport as she tried to board a flight to Istanbul.
Mafi faces up to 20 years in federal prison. She is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in downtown L.A. on Monday.

More than 20 vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, the highest number of ships crossing the waterway since March 1, according to data from shipping analytics firm Kpler.

Among the vessels that crossed on Saturday, five had last loaded cargoes in Iran, carrying products ranging from oil derivatives to metals.

Previously, U.S. District Judge Richard Leon issued a preliminary injunction blocking above-ground construction of the ballroom but allowed “below-ground” construction of national security facilities to continue.
Leon had said the project cannot continue without authorization from Congress.
But now, as Aldgra Fredly reports for The Epoch Times, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on April 17 blocked Leon’s injunction and scheduled a June 5 hearing to decide on whether the project should be halted.

The U.S. Department of Education announced Friday it will be stripping federal student loan funding from any college program that does not yield a high salary after the student graduates.
Stereotypically worthless degrees in areaslike “women’s and gender studies” have become the standing joke that jabs at how unserious college has become. But under new proposed rulemaking from the Education Department,if schools want to offer degrees that bury students in debt while giving them poor job prospects, the institutions will have to fund those programs themselves.
“The Trump Administration’s proposed accountability framework is grounded in common sense:if postsecondary education programs do not leave graduates better off, taxpayers should not subsidize them,” Under
Secretary of Education Nicholas Kent said in a press release. “This consensus-backed framework will drive meaningful change in postsecondary education, ending years of regulatory whiplash and addressing student debt that has left too many students worse off.”
Under the proposed rule, undergraduate programs willhave to prove that degree recipients earn at least as much as a high school graduate before being eligible for student loan funding. Similarly, graduate school programs will need to prove higher earnings than an average bachelor’s degree.The average high school graduate is estimated to earn about $40,000, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.
“Programs that routinely fail to provide students with a reliable return on investment would lose access to federal student loans, and in certain cases, Pell Grants,” the department said.
Though the average high school graduate salary target is a fairly low bar, a Department of Education official told The Federalist thatthere are college programs that will get cut because the return on investment is so low. It also means that important degrees like liberal arts, philosophy, and history — areas where conservatives are severely lacking, leaving leftists in control of the American historical narrative — will likely be safeguarded.
According to a 2024 survey from the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity,23 percent of bachelor’s programs and 43 percent of master’s programs have a negative return on investment. Student loan debt is now close to doubling the size of all U.S. university endowments combined. Student loan debt also outpaces Americans’ credit card debt and is roughly equal to automobile loan debt.
Meanwhile, the average net price for attending anundergraduate program — after grant and scholarship funding — rose by 93 percent from 1990 to 2020, when accounting for inflation. Department of Education data shows that theunlimited lending of taxpayer dollars has increased graduate tuition by 340 percent.
Schools can increase the sticker price of tuition knowing that no student is actually going to pay for it, but rather American taxpayers will foot the bill through Education Department student loans. One of the goals of the Trump administration is to stop that scam.
Right now, theEducation Department’s student loan portfolio, funded by the American taxpayer, is nearly $1.7 trillion. It is estimated thatfewer than 40 percent of borrowers are in repayment, and nearly 25 percent of borrowers are in default.
“More students are left financially worse off than if they had never attended college,” the department stated, addingthat “now is the time for a hard reset in higher education.”
The new rule would apply across the board for all types of postsecondary education— from colleges and universities to career and technical schools. It is amajor shift from the Biden and Obama administrations, which selectively targeted career and technical schools, as well as religious schools like Grand Canyon University, in order to destroy them while shielding their friends at universities from accountability.
Biden’s Education Department only threatened financial aid funding to places like technical schools through its “gainful employment” metric, while asking traditional four-year universities to share financial information with prospective students with zero threat to their funding.
The new rule “will better protect students and taxpayers by requiring institutions to sunset programs that do not deliver a strong financial returnor to seek funding outside the federal financial aid system,” the department said.
The rule will be open for a public comment period for 30 days before becoming finalized, and is planned to take effect in July.

President Donald Trump said on Sunday that US forces intercepted an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman and took custody of the vessel after its crew ignored orders to stop.
“Today, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship named TOUSKA ... tried to get past our Naval Blockade, and it did not go well for them,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Tucker Carlson’s son is no longer a part of JD Vance's team in the Office of the Vice President amid Donald Trump’s continuous attacks on the conservative pundit.
Buckley Carlson, who served as deputy press secretary to Vance, 41, has left the White House to start a political consulting firm, Politico reported on Saturday, April 18, citing two sources close to the plan.
The move came as Trump, 79, has continued to publicly hurl insults at Buckley’s father, who has also been openly criticizing the president in recent weeks.
According to a Vance official, however, Buckley first shared his plans to exit his role late last year. “Buckley first informed the VP’s office of his intention to depart in December,” the official told Politico.
The deputy press secretary opted to stay longer, the official said, “to ensure a smooth transition.”
A White House spokesperson did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Sunday, April 19.
Buckley’s move away from the White House comes amid escalating tensions between Trump and Tucker, 56.
Recently, the former Fox News personality and Trump ally has become an outspoken critic of the president and his administration, particularly in relation to the war in Iran.
Tucker attempted to dissuade Trump from attacking Iran before the war began with the joint United States-Israeli strikes on the country in late February.
The Fox News alum met with the president in the Oval Office three times to argue against the attack, per The New York Times.
The political pundit also criticized Trump after the president, who has described himself as a non-denominational Christian, threatened Iran in a profanity-laced Easter morning message on Truth Social.
“How dare you speak that way on Easter morning to the country? Who do you think you are? You're tweeting out the f- word on Easter morning,” Tucker said during the April 6 episode of his podcast.
Tucker also called out Trump for his decision to conclude the Easter message "Praise be to Allah,” which he said was “mocking the religion of Iran.”
“Okay. If you seek a religious war, that's a good idea. But by the way, no decent person mocks other people's religions,” said Tucker.
In a more recent episode of his podcast, Tucker spoke out against Trump’s AI-generated posts featuring himself as a Christ-like figure, as well as another in which he touched heads with and embraced Jesus Christ. (Trump later deleted the former, later telling reporters that he thought it depicted him as “as a doctor,” not Jesus.)

When the draft of the Supreme Court ruling that would overturn Roe v. Wade leaked to the press, the conservative justices who signed on to the majority opinionsuddenly wore bigger targets on their backs. The very real threat of assassination hung over them like a coming thunderstorm.
And stilltheir pro-abortion colleagues stalled the release of the official ruling for weeks, putting the justices’ lives at increased risk, as detailed in Mollie Hemingway’s new book on Justice Samuel Alito and reported Saturday by Fox News.
Alito is the justice who wrote Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the ruling ending nationalized abortion.
“Alito asked the dissenters to make the completion of their dissents their prioritybecause delay of the decision was asecurity threat,” Hemingway, The Federalist’s editor-in-chief writes in Alito: The Justice Who Reshaped the Supreme Court and Restored the Constitution.“Abortion supporters had an incentive to kill one or more of the justicesin the majority to change the outcome.”
The dissenters — Justices Stephen Breyer (counting down the days until his retirement at the end of the 2021-22 term ),Elena Kagan, and Sonia Sotomayor — “demurred,” Hemingway reports. Justice Neil Gorsuch asked the liberals when they expected to be wrapped up.They refused to provide a date.
The tension and the threats escalated.
‘Serious Security Risk’
On May 2, 2022, accomplice media outlet Politico published the 98-page draft of Dobbs.The unprecedented leak set off a wave of leftist protestsand a literalfirestorm of pro-abortion-led violence. Six days later — on Mother’s Day — a radical who was eventually arrested thanks to a half-eaten burrito firebombed the Madison headquarters of Wisconsin Family Action, a Christian pro-life, pro-family organization.
“In the ensuing weeks, hundreds of pregnancy centers, churches, and pro-life organizations would be vandalized, some even set ablaze,” Hemingway wrote.Protesters also lined the streets and sidewalks outside the conservative justices’ homes.
More than a month after the leak, Nicholas Roske, 26 at the time, arrived at Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home with murder on his mind. In his possession were a Glock pistol, ammunition, zip ties, a tactical knife, pepper spray, a hammer, duct tape, and more accoutrements, according to the criminal complaint.Roske said he was going to stop Roe v. Wade from being overturned by getting rid of a judge — or three— that voted to stop the deeply flawed 1973 ruling legalizing abortion nationwide.
“Everyone knew that the leak posed a serious security risk for justices. Since decisions do not take effect until issued officially from the bench,the death of a justice before then could alter the result. The threat of assassination increased dramatically,” Hemingway writes.
It took 53 days to finally release the Dobbs decision. Despite the growing threat to their colleagues,the liberals on the court refused to listen to urgent pleas to complete their work, Hemingway reports.
The ‘Wall Was Shaking’
Kagan, an Obama nominee, made her opinion on the delay loudly clear, according to Hemingway’s book, as reported by Fox.

“Hemingway wrote thatKagan, an Obama appointee, angrily confronted Breyer, a Clinton appointee, in May 2022 behind closed doors after at least one justice, SamuelAlito, had asked his liberal colleagues to speed up writing their dissentbecause of security threats,” Fox reported. “Breyer was most likely to agree to Alito’s request, Hemingway wrote.”
Hemingway wrote that “Kagan remonstratedwith Breyer not to accommodate the majority,screaming so loudly, observers noted, that the ‘wall was shaking,’” according to Fox.
While pro-abortion zealots were calling for heads to roll, the court’s liberal minority did nothing to, as the left likes to say with empty virtue, “turn down the temperature.”
The justices needed all the help they could get. But the Biden administration shrugged off the serious threats. Biden press secretary, Jennifer Psaki, insisted the demonstrations were peaceful.
“I know that there’s an outrage right now, I guess, about protests that have been peaceful to date, and we certainly do continue to encourage that, outside judges’ homes, and that’s the president’s position,” Psaki said on May 10.
“Shortly after the leak, Attorney General Merrick Garland ordered the U.S. Marshals Service to provide full-time security for all the justices, but he drew criticism because authorities did not arrest protesters despite a law that prohibits ‘picketing or parading’ near a federal judge’s home to influence a court decision,” Fox reported.
Garland refused to enforce the laws against pro-abortion radicalswho threatened Supreme Court members even as he was siccing the FBI on parents who spoke out against liberal school district policies.
‘We Can Only Do Our Jobs’
Contrary to the belief by Roe’s supporters that the final outcome could be changed if they just demonstrated and threatened and destroyed enough,the conservatives on the court never wavered.
“We do not pretend to know how our political system or society will respondto today’s decision overruling Roe and Casey,” Alito wrote in his Dobbs opinion. “And even if we could foresee what will happen, we would have no authority to let that knowledge influence our decision. =We can only do our job, which is to interpret the law, apply longstanding principles of stare decisis==, and decide this case accordingly.”
The Fox report on Hemingway’s new book comes after former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer reported rumors earlier this weekthatthe Supreme Court’s liberal minority is once again “slow-walking the dissent” in a landmark redistricting case Louisiana v. Callais, “so that [the decision] will not be issued in time for many Republican states to actually go in and redistrict based on the decision.”
