The three ground-based telescope projects that will be part of the Schmidt Observatory System include the Argus Array, the Deep Synoptic Array (DSA) and the Large Fiber Array Spectroscopic Telescope (LFAST).

The Argus Array, slated to be operational as early as 2028, will survey the sky in visible light with 1,200 small-aperture telescopes that work together to offer a combined collecting area equivalent to an 8-meter-class telescope.

According to a description on the Schmidt Sciences website, Argus will offer an "instantaneous field of view of 8,000 square degrees" while scanning the sky and enable "exploration of the transient universe on approximately second-long timescales."

"When a multi-messenger event is detected, optical surveys have to slew to that position and start tiling over the uncertainty region.

Argus takes a different approach with an overwhelmingly large field of view that eliminates the need to tile," Nicholas Law of the University of North Carolina said during the conference.

(A “tile” in this case refers to one section of the sky covered by a detector. “Tiling” means combining different tiles to increase the accuracy of measurements.)

"In our fastest operation mode, we can take images as fast as once per second,” Law said.

The Deep Synoptic Array, meanwhile, will be built in Nevada and consist of 1,656 1.5-meter aperture telescopes and span an area of 20 kilometers by 16 kilometers (12.4 by 9.9 miles).

Its specialty will be scanning the sky in radio bands, which can reveal radio sources like galaxy centers or black holes otherwise obscured by things like interstellar dust that can make them hard to detect in other wavelengths.

It's expected to be operational by 2029.

"The DSA is unprecedented. It's an order of magnitude more service speed than any telescope, current or planned," Gregg Hallinan of the California Institute of Technology said during the conference.

"To put it in context, every radio telescope ever built has detected about 10 million radio sources. We'll double that in the first 24 hours."

And finally, the LFAST telescope was described during the conference as "the telescope made out of many more telescopes."

It's made of 20 modules with a combined collecting area equal to a telescope with a 3.5-meter (11.5 feet) mirror, according to the Schmidt Sciences website.

"We just heard about two facilities that are mostly designed to do surveys. And LFAST is a facility that we are building to do follow-up," Chad Bender of the University of Arizona said during the conference.

"Because it's scalable, we can build it out as needed to support the science."

Another unique feature of LFAST is that it's an optical telescope without any large domes. "Domes are very expensive," Bender said.

"But we still have to protect the mirrors — they're optical quality mirrors. So, we're building little mini domes — little cylinders, or canisters — around each telescope that fit within the frame."

"The questions that we're trying to answer are: How do we get bigger apertures, and how do we do it cheaper, and how do we do it faster?" Bender said.

Those questions seem to apply to the entire principle of Schmidt Sciences' observatory system project.

"This is an experiment in accelerating astrophysics discovery: What happens when we get technology into the hands of astronomers more quickly?"

Arpita Roy, lead of the Astrophysics & Space Institute at Schmidt Sciences, said during the conference. "Our mandate, as we see it, is to build the enabling layer and open it up to all of you, to populate it with the science that will bring us into the next decade."

President Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday to pull the US out of a racist UN coalition. The State Department officials said they are pushing unconstitutional and racist policies — including a push for global reparations.

A UN judge wants eighteen trillion pounds from the UK and $107.8 trillion from Spain, the US, and France. Is this infuriating or what?

The judge says the UK is likely to owe more than £18tn in reparations for its historical role in slavery.

A report co-authored by the judge, Patrick Robinson, says the UK should pay $24tn (£18.8tn) for its slavery involvement in 14 countries.

But Mr Robinson said the sum was an “underestimation” of the damage caused by the slave trade.

He said he was amazed that some countries responsible for slavery think they can “bury their heads in the sand”.

The valuation is based on an assessment of five harms caused by slavery and the wealth accumulated by countries involved in the trade. The report sets out decades-long payment plans but says it is up to governments to negotiate what sums are paid and how.

Further, he said the two key Intelligence Community agencies responsible for space-based intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) — the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) that operates American spy satellites and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) that provides analyses based on space-based ISR data — also no doubt had a hand in ensuring Operation Absolute Resolve’s success.

CYBERCOM’s Role

During the Jan. 3 press conference, Caine also indicated that non-kinetic effects were used by CYBERCOM to suppress Venezuelan defenses, with Trump further mentioning that “the lights of Caracas were largely turned off due to a certain expertise that we have. It was dark, and it was deadly.”

CYBERCOM deferred to the Defense Department for comment related to the command’s role in Operation Absolute Resolve, and the Defense Department told Breaking Defense in an email that it had “nothing to provide due to operational security.”

When Breaking Defense asked the White House for comment, a spokesperson deferred to Caine’s comments in his Saturday address.

Though neither Caine or Trump elaborated on what exactly turning the lights out meant, some experts speculated that the command was able to deploy tactics affecting the Venezuelan capital’s power grid, including cutting off internet access.

“Well, it was dark because it was night, but apparently it was also dark because it seemed CYBERCOM turned off all the lights. This is the way that modern wars are fought, especially if you’re in the United States, and we operate very well in darkness,” Emily Harding, vice president of the defense and security department at the Center of Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) said during a virtual event Jan. 5.

Anthony Vinci, a senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security and former NGA chief technology officer for capabilities, told Breaking Defense Tuesday that he agreed that CYBERCOM could have used offensive tactics to shut down the power grid in Caracaras.

However, he also speculated that someone on the ground with access to the power grid’s controls could have been responsible.

Nonetheless, Vinci said, such tactics will likely continue to be used by the US military in future conflicts.

“Bottom line, I think that infrastructure is now on the table for warfighting,” he said.

Further, Trump and Caine’s address over the weekend also suggested that electronic warfare tactics may have been used to disrupt Venezuela’s air defense systems. As Caine said, “the joint air component began dismantling and disabling the air defense systems.”

Lauryn Williams, CSIS deputy director of the strategic technologies program, and Taylar Rajic, an associate fellow there, told Breaking Defense in an email Jan. 5 that Caine’s comments “indicate the combined operations led to suppressed air defenses, disrupted communications and internet outages, and GPS jamming all to cripple Venezuela’s ability to coordinate any meaningful response.”

By using such tactics the US “should also absolutely expect our main cyber adversaries — China, Russia, North Korea, Iran — to learn as much as they can about the United States’ use of offensive cyber against Venezuela and apply those learnings domestically,” they added.

Senate Advances Resolution Preventing Trump From Further Military Force In Venezuela Without Approval

The Senate issued a harsh rebuke of President Trump's actions in Venezuela, voting 52-47 on a bipartisan measure to block him from using military force "within or against Venezuela" unless he obtains Congressional approval first.

The legislation - which was introduced by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), was cosponsored by Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY), Adam Schiff (R-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

Five Republicans joined all 47 Democrats in voting 'yes' on the motion to advance the resolution to the Senate floor; Paul, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Todd Young and Josh Hawley.

"Instead of responding to Americans’ concerns about the affordability crisis, President Trump started a war with Venezuela that is profoundly disrespectful to U.S. troops, deeply unpopular, suspiciously secretive and likely corrupt. How is that ‘America First?‘" said Kaine. "Trump’s war is also clearly illegal because this military action was ordered without the congressional authorization the Constitution requires."

The procedural motion means that there will be a full Senate vote on the measure next week, which will require only a simple majority and is expected to pass. It will then require House approval and Trump's signature, making it unlikely to become law as Trump would undoubtedly veto - but it still sends a symbolic message (and possible groundwork to impeach?) that could impact Trump's foreign policy going forward.

"To my Senate colleagues: enough is enough," said Kaine. "You were sent here to have courage and to stand up for your constituents. That means no war without a debate and vote in Congress."

According to Paul, some members of Congress want to "shift the burden of war to the president" instead of taking responsibility.

"But make no mistake, bombing another nation’s capital and removing their leader is an act of war, plain and simple," said Paul. "No provision in the Constitution provides such power to the presidency."

The rebuke comes as Trump has suggested he's open to boots on the ground in Venezuela, while also threatening action against Iran, Greenland and Colombia on Sunday - adding that Cuba "is ready to fall."

By the early morning hours of November 4, Wisconsin had flipped blue; next to flip was the must-win state of Michigan. Days later, Georgia and Pennsylvania flipped for Biden as well. For many observers, the stunning vote turnarounds — combined with conflicting reports of election-night disruptions — fueled deep skepticism about the process’s integrity and transparency.

Judges in Michigan dismissed cases without allowing testimony from eyewitnesses or election-integrity experts or even reviewing a shred of credible evidence. The media mocked anyone who tried to prove election fraud or malfeasance. Cowardly Republican members of the Michigan Senate, like Ed McBroom and Lana Theis, joined Democrats who added their seal of approval to a so-called report stating that there was no evidence of mass fraud in Michigan’s 2020 election.

In Detroit, affidavits signed by dozens of poll challengers claiming they witnessed fraud were ignored by lawmakers and law enforcement, including the state’s top law enforcement officer, Democrat Attorney General Dana Nessel, who mocked and threatened anyone, including members of the media, who dared to challenge the election results.

The City of Detroit election results were certified under duress by two Republicans on the Wayne County Board of Canvassers, who received multiple threats over their initial refusal to certify the results. Wayne County Board of Canvassers Chair Monica Palmer received a photo of a dead teenage girl, along with a death threat against her adolescent daughter, over her initial refusal to certify the election results.

Another foreign leader and strident Trump critic has had a rapid about-face after coming under 'threat'. And this in turn has caused President Trump to cool his own condemnations and rhetoric. Colombia's president Gustavo Petro has long been among the fiercest opponents of the US President's Venezuela policy, and especially his weekend military action which ousted Nicolás Maduro. They've frequently clashed over several months of the American military build-up in the southern Caribbean, with Petro being the butt plenty of colorful Truth Social posts by Trump, including labeling Petro "sick".

Suddenly the Colombian leader has made nice after Trump went so far as to hint that his country could be among those facing potential anti-narco trafficking military action, with the NY Times now reporting, "The two leaders spoke for about an hour late Wednesday afternoon in a call facilitated by the US Embassy in Colombia, according to the Colombian presidency." It noted that "A US official also said the call lasted about an hour, which is unusually long for a call between Mr. Trump and another leader." The Colombian side had a similarly positive assessment, with the Foreign Ministry calling it a "good meeting".

And it hasn't taken long, following Trump saying he appreciates Petro's "call and tone" - for him to even get a White House invite. Trump said Petro had "called to explain the situation of drugs and other disagreements that we have had."

Now a future meeting to further advance relations and cooperation is being arranged by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Colombia’s foreign minister, Trump confirmed, which he said he is looking forward to. "I appreciated his call and tone, and look forward to meeting him in the near future," Trump said in a fresh Truth Social post. The meeting will take place at the White House.

A mere days ago Trump had denounced Petro as heading up a "very sick" cartel infested country which he accused of "making cocaine and selling it to the United States" - and then this not very veiled threat and warning: "He's not going to be doing it very long, let me tell you." Trump even ominously responded to a reporter's question about potential military intervention in Colombia with, "Sounds good to me." He earlier said Petro must "watch his ass".

Petro himself is a former member of a guerrilla group and Colombia's first leftist leader in decades but he has sworn to "never to touch a weapon again" - but "for the homeland I would take up arms that I don't want."

In a fiery Senate hearing that exposed the deep rot within our politicized judiciary, Republican Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Eric Schmitt (R-MO) laid out a devastating case for the impeachment of radical Obama-appointed Judge James Boasberg.

For years, conservatives have watched as the federal judiciary has been weaponized against patriots, and now, the GOP is fighting back.

Cruz and Schmitt argued that Boasberg has fundamentally violated the public trust, acting not as an impartial arbiter of the law, but as a political operative wearing a “blue jersey” to protect the Deep State and persecute Republicans.

Speaking during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday, Cruz laid out a damning case for impeaching not just Boasberg but also fellow leftist Judge Deborah Boardman, who infamously slapped a wrist on the would-be assassin of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

“Rarer still, until now, were the deeper offenses the framers feared most—judges who, without necessarily breaking a criminal statute, violate the public trust, subvert the constitutional order, or wield their office in ways that injure society itself,” Cruz said. “That is why, throughout history, Congress recognized that impeachable misconduct need not be criminal.”

The focus of Cruz’s ire involves the controversial and unconstitutional gag orders Boasberg signed in 2023.

These orders allowed Special Counsel Jack Smith, who has led the witch hunt against President Trump, to obtain phone records of Republican Congress members while keeping them in the dark.

The hearing exposed how Judge Boasberg acted as a rubber stamp for Jack Smith’s aggressive tactics. Smith subpoenaed phone records of GOP members of Congress regarding the 2020 election and January 6, seeking gag orders to prevent the Senators from knowing they were being surveilled.

Boasberg authorized it all.

While Smith and court officials now claim Boasberg “was not notified” that the targets were members of Congress, witnesses at the hearing weren’t buying it.

Rob Luther, a law professor at George Mason University, blasted the judge for being “willfully blind.”

“One must ask on what basis Judge Boasberg found that the disclosure of subpoenas would result in destruction of or tampering with evidence, intimidation of potential witnesses, and cause serious jeopardy to the investigation,” Luther testified. “Did Judge Boasberg merely rubber stamp the requested gag order, or was he willfully blind?”

Moscow has long criticized Western restrictions, warning they violate international law and undermine global economic stability

US President Donald Trump has “greenlit” a new Russia sanctions bill that has been in the works for months, Senator Lindsey Graham has claimed. The US Senate could vote on the bill as soon as next week, he added.

Trump proposed a roadmap to resolving the Ukraine conflict in November, which Kiev and its European backers rejected as favoring Russia, while accusing Moscow of delaying peace.

Graham, a longtime Russia hawk, has echoed that stance, claiming that Moscow has “rebuffed all our efforts” to end the conflict and would not sign a peace deal “until we increase pressure.”

He was referring to a bill he authored that would authorize tariffs of up to 500% on imports from countries that continue to buy Russian energy products. Moscow has repeatedly criticized Western sanctions, warning that they violate international law and harm global economic stability.

“After a very productive meeting today with President Trump on a variety of issues, he greenlit the bipartisan Russia sanctions bill that I have been working on for months with Senator Blumenthal and many others,” Graham wrote in a post on X on Wednesday.

The proposed bill would allow Trump “to punish those countries who buy cheap Russian oil,” Graham added.

Trump had earlier floated the idea of sanctioning Russia’s trade partners amid frustration over stalled peace efforts, but he has so far gone no further than imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods over New Delhi’s trade with Moscow. India has denounced the move as unjustified.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has cautioned against additional secondary sanctions or tariffs on major buyers of Russian oil, warning that such measures could trigger global energy price spikes. Even the EU, despite expanding its Russia sanctions to 19 packages, has refrained from penalizing third-country partners.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier called such tariff threats “dirty methods” aimed at suppressing rivals.

“When someone is trying to suppress rivals by 100- or even 500-percent tariffs or imposes sanctions after openly declaring that the reason is political, this is even more than inequality. This is a disrespect for human rights,” the minister added.

"If you think you can harm an individual, a citizen of the United States, or a law enforcement officer, we will find you and bring you to justice."

In a press conference on Thursday morning, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that since Operation Salvo began in New York City, authorities have arrested 54 people who are "violent transnational gang members and affiliates associated with Trinitarios."

She noted that the operation was launched after an off-duty US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agent and his friend were attacked in a park in the city. "These two criminals came and attempted to rob them, and it ended up where they bravely fought back. This officer defended himself and his friend, but not before being shot in the face and in the arm by one of these criminals."

She criticized the Biden administration for letting these two people into the country, saying that "those individuals have been brought to justice, but those individuals would have never been in this country if they hadn’t been allowed in by the Biden administration, when they ignored our federal laws and allowed them to come in illegally." She said the two attackers "had long criminal rap sheets and were released by the Biden administration and continued to be released by leaders in this city to perpetuate crimes against the citizens that live here."

She said that the officer who was injured "doesn’t seek public attention. He wishes to remain anonymous, but he had a distinguished career and a legacy of service, and continues to do so, but his life was forever altered by this heinous crime."

During the investigation, she said, it was revealed that the two criminals were affiliated with the "notorious Trinitarios terrorist gang," and "we began to target every single last person that is affiliated with them and recognized that they needed to be brought to justice. The American people deserve dignity, they deserve justice, and we deliver both."

In response, Operation Salvo was launched in coordination between federal agencies, federal prosecutors, and the New York County District Attorney’s Office. "We've arrested 54 individuals as a part of Operation Salvo since its inception just a few months ago. Those arrested are violent transnational gang members and affiliates associated with Trinitarios who are responsible for weapons trafficking, for human smuggling, for narcotics distribution, and for armed robberies. They had perpetuated previous violent attacks across the city of New York City."

She said that many have been removed from the country, and "over 60 percent of them have been returned back to their home countries to face justice for their crimes there as well."

MEMORANDUM FOR THE HEADS OF EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENTS AND AGENCIES

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby direct:

Section 1. Purpose. (a) On February 4, 2025, I issued Executive Order 14199 (Withdrawing the United States from and Ending Funding to Certain United Nations Organizations and Reviewing United States Support to All International Organizations). That Executive Order directed the Secretary of State, in consultation with the United States Representative to the United Nations, to conduct a review of all international intergovernmental organizations of which the United States is a member and provides any type of funding or other support, and all conventions and treaties to which the United States is a party, to determine which organizations, conventions, and treaties are contrary to the interests of the United States. The Secretary of State has reported his findings as required by Executive Order 14199.

(b) I have considered the Secretary of State’s report and, after deliberating with my Cabinet, have determined that it is contrary to the interests of the United States to remain a member of, participate in, or otherwise provide support to the organizations listed in section 2 of this memorandum.

(c) Consistent with Executive Order 14199 and pursuant to the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby direct all executive departments and agencies (agencies) to take immediate steps to effectuate the withdrawal of the United States from the organizations listed in section 2 of this memorandum as soon as possible. For United Nations entities, withdrawal means ceasing participation in or funding to those entities to the extent permitted by law.

(d) My review of further findings of the Secretary of State remains ongoing.

(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

(b) This memorandum shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

(c) This memorandum is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

(d) The Secretary of State is authorized and directed to publish this memorandum in the Federal Register.

Good’s ex-husband said she had just dropped off her 6-year-old son at school when she encountered the ICE agents, The Associated Press reported.

A mother of three, Good had two children, ages 15 and 12, from her first marriage, The Associated Press reported. Her 6-year-old child’s father died in 2023, according to the Star Tribune. “There’s nobody else in his life,” the child’s grandfather told the newspaper.

After spending most of her life in Colorado, Good briefly moved to Kansas to live with her parents for a time after her husband – a military veteran – died, her father, Tim Ganger, told The Washington Post.

“She had a good life, but a hard life,” he said. “She was a wonderful person.”

Good’s death hit her family especially hard because it was her older sister’s birthday

She is “a neighbor who, you know, is not a terrorist. Not an extremist,” Joan Rose told KMBC. “That was just a mom who loved her kids, loved her spouse.”

On her social media accounts, Good described herself as a “poet and writer and wife and mom,” according to the AP. She recently said she was “experiencing Minneapolis,” posting a pride flag emoji on her Instagram account.

Good also was a devoted Christian who took part in youth mission trips to Northern Ireland when she was younger, her ex-husband told the AP. She also loved to sing and participated in a chorus in high school before studying vocal performance in college, he said.

Good attended Old Dominion University in Virginia, graduating in 2020 with an English degree, the school said in a statement.

The Pfizer BioNTech mRNA vaccine was launched in the US on the 14th of December 2020 after the granting of Emergency Use Authorization on December 11, 2020.

As of early March 2021. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, (HHS) and its agencies including The Center for Disease Control (CDC),The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the helm of Dr. Fauci, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), were aware from the very outset of the dangers underlying the Covid Pfizer-BioNtech mRNA “vaccine”.

In liason wth the WHO, pressured by Big Pharma, they nonetheless granted Pfizer-Moderna “the greenlight” to market the mRNA “Vaccine” Worldwide.

Pfizer had commissoned the conduct of a detailed “Classified Report” entitled:

The results of Pfizer’s classified Report were not made public. They were available to several health agencies (including the CDC, NIAID and FDA) involved in overseeing the distribution of the vaccine under the clauses of “Emergency Use Authorization”.

In October 2021, the notorious Pfizer Report was Declassified under Freedom of Information (FOI). It was a Bombshell. It revealed and confirmed the nature of the deadly vaccine.

Portland police said their officers were called to 102nd and Southeast Main Street at about 2:20 p.m., where they said they confirmed federal agents were involved in a shooting.

Portland police said at a 2:24 p.m., they had learned that a man who had been shot called to request help near Northeast 146th Avenue and East Burnside. Arriving officers found a man and a woman wounded from apparent gunshot wounds. Police confirmed federal agents were involved.

The two people who were wounded were taken to the hospital.

MINNEAPOLIS: "Renee Good, the woman who was shot after video showed her running into an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent with a car, has been revealed to be an “ICE watch” activist who worked to resist the federal agency in her community. According to the New York Post, Renee was part of an anti-ICE activist group which she came in contact with through her son's woke charter school.

“[Renee Good] was trained against these ICE agents, what to do, what not to do, it’s a very thorough training,” Leesa told the outlet. "To listen to commands, to know your rights, to whistle when you see an ICE agent.

Through the school and activist group, she had become involved in an "ICE watch" group, a loose coalition of activists whose mission was to disrupt ICE during operations. Similar activist groups and agitators have started forming all over the country with goals to dox, disrupt, and block ICE from carrying out lawful operations to remove illegal immigrants from the US.

On Wednesday, Good as well as others were interfering in an ICE operation taking place in Minnesota when agents were trying to clear to road. Video showed that an agent had been in front of her when she accelerated forward, hitting the official, who then fired his gun.

After being shot, Good's car sped out of control and then ran into a parked car down the street. Another angle of the shooting also went viral on Wednesday."
