TRUMP ADMINISTRATION QUIETLY REFUNDS PP

Reproductive rights advocates say they have dropped a legal challenge against the Trump administration for withholding millions of dollars of federal funding for family planning, contraception and other services after officials agreed to restore the money.

Last year, the American Civil Liberties Union sued the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services after federal officials alerted 16 organizations, including Planned Parenthood affiliates, that the department was pausing $27.5 million to investigate whether they’re complying with the law.

At the time, HHS didn’t specify which laws or executive orders the groups were suspected of violating. However, in a Dec. 19 letter to the organizations, HHS officials cited “federal civil rights laws” and that the groups had taken actions to show they were in compliance.

The letter reminded the organizations of their “ongoing obligation to comply with all terms of the award, including by not engaging in any unlawful diversity, equity or inclusion-related discrimination in violation of such laws.”

The ACLU then filed to voluntarily dismiss the lawsuit on Jan. 13.

“Ambassadors of Truth”: Scott Morrison to speak in Israel as Gazans keep dying

Scott Morrison is billed as a keynote speaker at the Generation Truth antisemitism conference in Israel later this month, an event which has drawn criticism for its inclusion of far-right European political figures and has been boycotted by major Jewish organisations.

It is being organised by Israel’s minister for diaspora affairs, Amichai Chikli, and is scheduled to take place at Jerusalem’s International Convention Centre on January 27.

According to reporting by Haaretz, the conference will again feature politicians from far-right European parties, including figures from movements with historical links to Holocaust denial and extremist ideologies. Last year’s event was widely boycotted by Jewish community leaders and organisations.

One representative said that they were astonished to see that

almost only members of parliament from the extreme right were invited to the conference

Banning aid, doxing Australians

Chikli has previously been criticised for cultivating ties with far-right European movements.

Last month, his ministry released a dossier naming Australian politicians and activists critical of Israel as “key influencers” of antisemitism, prompting NSW MP Anthony D’Adam to call on Australia’s home affairs minister to investigate potential foreign interference.

Chikli has also played a central role in the introduction of new registration conditions for international aid organisations, which require them to disclose personal information of their Palestinian staff. These measures have resulted in 37 NGOs being banned from operating in Gaza.

Humanitarian groups and the UN Secretary-General have warned that the restrictions would have devastating consequences for Palestinians reliant on aid, particularly as organisations face the prospect of being forced to withdraw entirely on March 1, 2026, if their registration was not renewed by the Israeli government.

Morrison’s record of support for Israel

During his time as prime minister, Morrison positioned himself as one of Israel’s strongest supporters among Australia’s western allies.

His government formally adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism in 2021. The IHRA definition has been criticised for conflating criticism of Israel with antisemitism, with the definition’s original drafter condemning the weaponisation of the definition by governments to attack academic freedom and free speech

Morrison also recognised West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in 2018 and opened a Trade and Defence Office there in 2019, despite international consensus that unilateral assertions of sovereignty over Jerusalem are illegal under international law.

Critical of UN, protestors, ABC

In a speech at the Sydney Institute, Morrison called the UN General Assembly a forum “where Israel is bullied and where anti-Semitism is cloaked in language about human rights”. In 2024, he doubled down on these remarks and accused the UN of antisemitism and applying doubled standards against Israel.

In 2019, Morrison was awarded the Jerusalem Prize by the Zionist Federation of Australia, with its president, Jeremy Leibler, praising Morrison for changing Australia’s voting pattern at the UN General Assembly to oppose what he described as “insulting” resolutions targeting Israel.

In a recent opinion piece titled ‘The Labor Party Made Australia Safe for Antisemitism’, Morrison argued that weekly pro-Palestinian protests in Australia “culminated in opponents of Israel marching across the Sydney Harbour Bridge”.

Morrison also called for the end of the “culture of permission for hateful protest, coercion and bullying”, singling out universities, arts institutions and the ABC, and arguing that what was lacking was “political will”.

Other big legal news is a grand jury empaneled in Florida, which is going to look into partisan investigations on President Trump, including an FBI raid of his home at Mar-a-Lago in 2022. Klayman says:

Klayman says some Republicans in Congress are not totally committed to stopping the fraud and crime of the Left. Klayman points out:

In the interest of time, I’ll skip the fake pleasantries and get right to it. Elections have consequences, and I acknowledge that. Democrats have a super majority in the house, the senate, governor, and every statewide executive office. You have it all except the office of sheriff, and once you have control over sheriffs you think you can impose your will on people like me.

Some of my colleagues naively believe that they can come here and reason with you. They think you don’t understand what’s at stake here. They don’t understand you like I do. You know what is at stake, and you are acting on it. You are not dumb, you are evil. But I am not surprised.

You are going to pass this qualifications bill for law enforcement, but you will not hold yourselves accountable. You say, “We have to hold the chiefs and sheriffs accountable because they enforce the law.” That’s just the excuse you use for the low information people that vote for you. If you really wanted accountability, you would have qualifications for anyone who runs for office. You write the laws that we enforce so why should you not have the same qualifications?

I propose that everyone who runs for an elected office go through a background check, a social media review, a polygraph, and a psychological test. Democrats won’t agree to that because you have convicted felons who are elected officials, and you want more.

I represent almost one million people in Pierce County, many more people than any of you do. I wasn’t elected chief of police. Being sheriff of Pierce County is much more than just police work. Citizens reach out to me all the time regarding overreach of the government by you. Some say they finally have a voice because of me, and you want to silence my voice. If I towed the Democrat line, you would not have any issue with me, but since I know what a woman is and I know transgender women are men, you want me silenced. You want to give an un-elected bureaucracy the ability to de-certify me and remove me from office because you don’t agree with my speech.

You Democrats hate President Trump so much, yet you do the very things you accuse him of doing such as imposing these types of controls over other independently elected officials.

Also, just for the record, my deputies don’t wear face masks, but once you pass the law that they can’t, I will not only allow them, but I will also encourage them to do so.

I don’t recognize your authority to impose these controls over me, and when you try to remove me from office before my term expires, thousands of Pierce County residents will surround the County City Building in downtown Tacoma and not allow that to happen. I hope it doesn’t come to that, but I and they are prepared. Are you prepared?

Finally, anyone who votes for this will never have an audience with this sheriff.

An Update From Victor Davis Hanson

I want to thank all the wonderful people who have sent me wishes of rapid recovery and prayers in so many manifestations. I cannot thank you enough given it gave me hope and encouragement these past two weeks as I read and reread you notes, cards, and postings.

I was operated on 12/30 to remove a large "mucinous adenoma carcinoma" and also right lower lobe by the thoracic surgery team at Stanford Medical.

I had previously and mysteriously been unable to recover fully from a March 2025 flu and a series of sinus infections that led to a sinus operation, and later hoarseness and cough.

A series of various scans suggested subclinical pneumonia, prior damage from long covid, or perhaps even valley fever.

However, the consolidation continued to grow, and I continued to feel weaker and hoarser—from what turned out to be a very hard to diagnose and rare lung cancer that is often dubbed “pseudo-pneumonia” for its near identical appearance to infection/inflammation on scans. Many think these types of cancer are genetically driven and I have had certainly many family members with cancers.

An accurate diagnosis is often made more difficult given non-smokers (and nondrinkers/non drug users) more often suffer this type of strange malignancy.

Luckily, and belatedly I got to Stanford Med where after another scan and surgical biopsy they quickly diagnosed the near year long problem as a large malignancy. In this regard. I want to thank our director at the Hoover Institution and my friend and colleague Dr. Condoleezza Rice whose support and advice on medical care proved invaluable.

The 12/30 cancer removal surgery a little more than two weeks ago went well.

But as happens (I’m 72) sometimes, an arterial bleed of unknown origins developed in the recovery room. I was very lucky that the team got me back into surgery, found the hemorrhaging, provided numerous transfusions, and got me back to recovery.

I am recovering well from the lung cancer surgery, but now mostly dealing with the after effects of the long time under anesthesia for the two procedures, blood loss, anemia, and some AFIB, which are all mostly manifested in fatigue and weakness.

But I hope to rebuild and recover and return to work in time, especially given the frantic news cycle of the last month.

There is much to be optimistic about, despite the nasty nature of this rare nonsmoker’s cancer and a few detours during recovery.

Lymph nodes and peripheral samples removed during surgery around the tumor and mass proved negative for malignancy. And a pre-op full body scan did not show metastasis.

So I’m hoping to rebuild my strength and prepare for perhaps some sort of chemo/immunotherapy prophylactic treatment to help prevent recurrence in the pulmonary area.

I can’t thank all of you enough for your kindness. It stunned me and I will do my best to recover and see you all again on podcasts and other venues.

NGC 7023: The Iris Nebula

These cosmic clouds have blossomed 1,300 light-years away in the fertile starfields of the constellation Cepheus. Called the Iris Nebula, NGC 7023 is not the only nebula to evoke the imagery of flowers. Still, this deep telescopic image shows off the Iris Nebula's range of colors and symmetries embedded in surrounding fields of interstellar dust. Within the Iris itself, dusty nebular material surrounds a hot, young star. The dominant color of the brighter reflection nebula is blue, characteristic of dust grains reflecting starlight. Central filaments of the reflection nebula glow with a faint reddish photoluminescence as some dust grains effectively convert the star's invisible ultraviolet radiation to visible red light. Infrared observations indicate that this nebula contains complex carbon molecules known as PAHs. The dusty blue petals of the Iris Nebula span about six light-years.

Tune in today (Jan. 16) to bid farewell to interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, courtesy of a livestream from the Virtual Telescope Project featuring live views of the enigmatic visitor as it continues its one-way journey out of our solar system.

Friday's livestream will begin at 5 p.m. EST (2100 GMT), with views of 3I/ATLAS being provided by a 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain robotic telescope located at the organization's facility in Manciano, Italy, weather permitting.

"This is a very precious opportunity to personally see, in real-time, the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, one of the most important discoveries of the last decade," said Virtual Telescope Project founder Gianluca Masi in a recent post on the website.

3I/ATLAS was discovered on July 1, 2025 and was quickly confirmed to be just the third interstellar object to visit our solar system based on an analysis of its trajectory, which proved that it was not gravitationally bound to our parent star.

The alien comet made its closest approach to the sun on Oct. 29 during an event called perihelion, prior to which it had brightened more than had been expected by scientists.

The comet was hidden from view in the weeks surrounding perihelion, as it passed on the far side of the sun relative to Earth.

3I/ATLAS later made its closest approach to our Blue Marble on Dec. 19, when it passed 168 million miles (270 million kilometers) from our planet.

Its next milestone will involve a much closer pass of Jupiter in March later this year, when it will buzz the gas giant at a distance of approximately 33.4 million miles (53.7 million km).

Following this final planetary flyby, 3I/ATLAS will embark on a silent journey lasting several thousand years as it coasts beyond the orbit of the outermost icy planets, before careening through the icy shell of the Oort cloud to return to the cold embrace of interstellar space.

What has Webb revealed about the TRAPPIST-1 system and its planets? And what do we still not know?

Data has been successfully collected for all seven planets. As of December 2025, the science community has reported on their Webb observations for four of the seven TRAPPIST-1 planets: b, c, d, and e.

So far, Webb hasn’t seen signs of thick atmospheres on TRAPPIST-1 b and TRAPPIST-1 c. The current data for b suggests it may be a bare rock with no atmosphere.

If c does have an atmosphere, it’s very thin. For TRAPPIST-1 d and TRAPPIST-1 e, the data is still under study. For now, scientists have ruled out that these two planets have thick hydrogen atmospheres.

While scientists expected the red dwarf host star to be active, its activity is much more intense than originally predicted.

TRAPPIST-1’s stellar flares and star spots make it challenging to distinguish between signals from the planets’ atmospheres and “contamination” from the star’s activity.

To mitigate such challenging conditions, astronomers will have to take more observations than anticipated.

Advances in our scientific understanding are often gradual, and the study of the TRAPPIST-1 system is no exception.

To become more certain in the atmospheric characterization of these planets will require follow-up observations of potentially hundreds of transits with Webb over several years.

Will Webb be able to search for signs of life in the TRAPPIST-1 system?

Webb will help scientists determine which planets do or don’t have atmospheres, therefore helping scientists understand some of the dynamics of atmosphere loss and retention.

If any of the planets in the TRAPPIST-1 system have atmospheres, Webb can begin to study their chemical compositions, which could offer tentative clues about habitability. However, Webb is not likely to detect biosignatures on these planets.

How does the TRAPPIST-1 system tie into the broader story of exoplanets?

TRAPPIST-1 is an exciting case study, serving as a rich data point that ties into our larger interest in exoplanets.

The currently underway Rocky Worlds Director’s Discretionary Time program is a Webb-Hubble collaboration to answer whether planets around red dwarf stars (like TRAPPIST-1’s star) are able to retain atmospheres.

Astronomers will learn even more about the population of Earth-sized exoplanets with the future Habitable Worlds Observatory, and will continue studying TRAPPIST-1 and other planetary systems with the European Southern Observatory’s upcoming Extremely Large Telescope.

The scientific tale of TRAPPIST-1 is still being written. Each observation by Webb brings forth new information, gradually building our knowledge and shaping how we perceive these distant worlds, and driving our shared sense of excitement for what’s yet to come.

We can’t help but wonder: What will we discover next about this system?

Water depth, temperature, and circulation can shift dramatically within a few miles. This complexity makes oyster site selection notoriously difficult, and some satellites that see the coast in broad strokes miss the small, patchy places where oysters live.

“What makes Landsat so powerful for aquaculture is its ability to see finer-scale patterns along the coast,” where farmers put oyster cages in the water, Neigh said.

Landsat 8 and 9’s pixels — 98 to 328 feet (30 to 100 meters) across — are able to distinguish more subtle temperature differences between neighboring coves.

For a cold-blooded oyster, those distinctions can translate into months of growth. Warm water accelerates feeding and shell development. Cold water slows both.

A challenge for satellites is clouds. Maine’s sky is frequently overcast, and together Landsat 8 and 9 pass over any given point only every eight days.

To work around this, the research team analyzed 10 years of Landsat data (2013–2023) and built seasonal “climatologies,” or average temperature patterns for every 98-foot (30-meter) pixel along the coast.

Sentinel-2 imagery added estimates of chlorophyll and particulate organic matter, the drifting microscopic food that oysters pull from the water column with rhythmic contractions of their gills.

Field tests at multiple sites showed the technique’s accuracy. “We validated the model against seven years of field data,” Brady said.

“It’s a strong indication that these remotely sensed products can inform not just where to grow, but how long it will take to harvest.”

Turning satellite science into tools for growers

The University of Maine team is now developing an online tool to put this model into practice. A grower will be able to click on a coastal location and receive an estimate for time-to-market.

The researchers also assist with workshops through Maine’s Aquaculture in Shared Waters program, teaching farmers how to interpret temperature and water clarity data and apply them to their own sites.

For farmers like Saindon, that translates into something simpler: confidence and efficiency. “Having these kinds of tools lowers the barrier for new people to get into aquaculture,” he said. “It gives you peace of mind that you’re not just guessing.”

The Maine project is helping pave the way for other NASA missions. The PACE satellite (Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem) launched in 2024 and is now delivering hyperspectral observations of coastal waters.

Where earlier sensors could estimate how much plankton was present, PACE can begin to identify the different plankton species themselves.

For oysters, mussels, and other filter feeders, that specificity matters. Not all plankton are equal food: Different kinds offer different nutrition, and some plankton are harmful to oysters.

A next step will be turning that richer picture of coastal life into forecasts people working on the water can use, helping farmers trade some of the coast’s mystery for evidence they can apply to their harvest.

Launched in November 2013, MAVEN entered orbit around Mars in September 2014 to study the planet's upper atmosphere and its interaction with the solar wind.

Originally designed to operate for just one year, MAVEN celebrated its 10th anniversary in September 2024. The mission has helped scientists understand how Mars lost its once-thick atmosphere, and has also collected extensive data on Martian dust storms, winds and auroras.

Beyond science, MAVEN plays a critical operational role as a communications relay, transmitting data between Earth and surface missions such as NASA's Curiosity and Perseverance rovers.

While other orbiters — NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, Mars Odyssey, and the European Space Agency's ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter and Mars Express — can also provide relay support, MAVEN carries a significant share of the communications workload.

With MAVEN offline, NASA said it has adjusted rover operations to rely more heavily on the remaining orbiters, scheduling additional passes to support surface activities and modifying daily plans for Curiosity and Perseverance to continue science operations.

MAVEN's silence is particularly concerning given its history of technical challenges. In 2022, the spacecraft spent about three months in safe mode after problems with its onboard inertial measurement units, or IMUs, which determine its orientation in space.

Following earlier issues with its primary IMU, the mission switched to a backup unit that experienced accelerated wear, leaving MAVEN unable to fully rely on either system.

To reduce dependence on aging hardware, the mission team accelerated development of an "all-stellar" navigation mode, which allows MAVEN to orient itself by tracking stars.

While less precise than IMU-based navigation, the system is sufficient for routine operations, though not for delicate maneuvers.

The three-month outage and an extended recovery period in 2022 also forced MAVEN to miss observations of several powerful solar flares and temporarily limited its role as a communications relay, reducing science output both from MAVEN and from Mars missions overall.

Despite its age, MAVEN has enough fuel to remain in orbit until at least 2030, and the mission was formally extended in 2022 through September 2025.

If efforts to contact MAVEN continue to come up empty, it would deal another blow to the Mars science community, which is already contending with the potential cancellation of the flagship Mars Sample Return program — a long-delayed mission designed to return Martian rocks collected by the Perseverance rover and return them to Earth, with MAVEN intended to serve as a crucial communications relay.

Leftist Mayor of Small Missouri Town Busted on NINE Child Porn and Sex Crimes After Inventing a Vile Race Hoax

A far-left, race-baiting mayor of a small Missouri town of less than 2,400 people has been busted on nine incredibly heinous crimes after perpetrating a disgusting race hoax.

As First Alert 4 news reported, Riverview mayor Mike Cornell Jr. has been charged with four counts of second-degree statutory sodomy, three counts of first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy, one count of first-degree harassment, and one count of possession of child pornography.

There were four victims involved in these incidents, including two minors under the age of 17. The alleged crimes occurred between December 2016 and 2026.

''According to the St. Louis County Police’s probable cause statement, Cornell committed forcible sex acts on at least three victims, including a minor. They say he made sexual advances against a fourth victim. Police say they found child sexual abuse material on Cornell’s phone.

The department said it was made aware of the allegations against Cornell and potential crimes from another local agency, but would not say who.''

The charges follow the authorities’ search of the mayor’s home earlier this month. Police were accompanied by a K9 unit as they searched the residence, which is less than a half-mile from Riverview City Hall.

Riverview’s Acting Police Chief, Toreyon Times, called the charges against Cornell, Jr. “deeply disturbing” in a statement to First Alert 4.

St Louis Police believe there may be even more victims of Cornell, Jr., and are encouraging them to come forward.

Just last month, Cornell Jr. whipped out the race card and alleged without evidence that pro-KKK and anti-Semitic graffiti had been appearing throughout Riverview.

First Alert 4 investigated the mayor’s claims and found inconsistencies across the versions of the stories he told.

For example, the outlet did not find evidence of Cornell’s claims of the KKK or other organized hate groups drawing graffiti in Riverview.

Current and former residents also said there was no history of the KKK in the community.

In other words, the whole thing was a hoax. Making the lie even more disgusting is the fact that Riverview is a city that is 73% Black.

Hello, Space Fans! NASA is one day away from its historic rollout of the Artemis 2 rocket that will carry four astronauts to the moon for the first time in over 50 years.

The Artemis 2 rocket, NASA's second Space Launch System booster, is currently scheduled to head out to Launch Pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 7 a.m. EST (1200 GMT).

It should take several hours for the towering 322-foot rocket to reach the launch pad.

Since the end of the Bretton Woods system in 1971, the U.S. dollar has dominated global finance as the chief reserve currency. It’s used in international trade, sovereign lending, and central bank reserves.

This dominance allows the United States to borrow cheaply and wield great financial leverage globally.

Recent actions by the Trump administration, sometimes labeled a neo-Monroe Doctrine for its assertive posture toward perceived rivals, can be understood through the lens of preserving dollar supremacy against challenges from rising powers like China and Russia.

The Rise of De-dollarization

Though the dollar remains dominant, its grip has been weakening over decades. According to IMF and central bank data, the dollar’s share of global foreign-exchange reserves has fallen from over 70 percent in 2000 to under 60 percent in recent years; this reflects broader moves by countries to diversify away from U.S. currency dependence. At the same time, China’s share has increased substantially.

Meanwhile, states are increasingly engaging in de-dollarization, which means reducing the use of the dollar in international trade and reserves. This trend is driven in part by a desire to decrease exposure to U.S. monetary policy and sanctions, including increased tariffs and unilateral economic measures against trading partners and adversaries.

BRICS: Geopolitics, Gold, and a Potential Currency Challenge

The group of emerging economies known as BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) has been the focal point of rivalry to dollar hegemony. At various summits, the idea of a BRICS currency or common alternative currency, which have included the notion of backing it with gold as a means of anchoring value and appealing to nations wary of fiat currencies that, by definition, have no gold backing their value, but rather, convention, oil trade flows, and the global economic and military dominance of the United States.

While Kremlin officials have denied any imminent creation of a unified currency to dethrone the dollar, proposals for trade in non-dollar currencies and discussion of alternative settlement systems persist. SpaceX NROL-105 Mission

January 16, 2026

SpaceX is targeting Friday, January 16 for a Falcon 9 launch of the NROL-105 mission from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

The 35-minute launch window opens at 8:18 p.m. PT with a backup opportunity available at 8:04 p.m. PT on Saturday, January 17.

A live webcast of the NROL-105 mission will begin about 10 minutes prior to liftoff, which you can watch here and on X @SpaceX. You can also watch the webcast on the X TV app.

This is the second flight for the first stage booster supporting this mission, which previously launched one Starlink mission. Following stage separation, the first stage will land on Landing Zone 4 (LZ-4) at Vandenberg Space Force Base.

There is the possibility that residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may hear one or more sonic booms during the launch, but what residents experience will depend on weather and other conditions.
