Reform UK leader Nigel Farage will attend the World Economic Forum summit in Davos next week for the first time, as he attempts to cement his position as one of Britain’s most influential politicians on the world stage as well as at home.

The anti-immigration populist is due to travel to the Swiss ski town on Wednesday and return on Thursday, a person familiar with the matter said. He is set to speak at a USA House online event and also at Bloomberg House, they said.

The Reform leader aims to meet politicians and business people on the sidelines of the conference, according to the person, who stressed that no appointments have yet been scheduled. The news of his attendance was first reported by the Financial Times.

Farage’s attendance at an event he’s previously criticized as a forum for globalists shows how he’s trying to transform Reform’s image into that of a party of government as he bids to become Britain’s next prime minister.

He’s vowed to professionalize Reform, which has led nationwide polls since April, and has also welcomed a slew of defectors from the Conservative Party including former leadership contender Robert Jenrick on Thursday. At the same time, he’s maintained he will only accept people leaving other parties if he believes they can add to his team.

Reform is seeking to engage with countries it sees as influential as it begins to build out its foreign and trade policies. US President Donald Trump — a personal friend of Farage — is due to attend Davos, as is European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and various ministers from the Gulf states.

Though it still leads all parties in the polls, some recent surveys show Reform’s rating tailing off, and the party is making efforts to attract voters who have so far stuck with Labour or the Conservative.

Part of that will involve proving Farage is a credible national leader who can engage with peers abroad, though he will also need to balance the need to appear statesmanlike with the anti-establishment image he has typically cultivated. Reform is hoping to make gains in a set of local elections due in May, though a general election does not have to be held until mid-2029.

Farage has not attended Davos before, and in 2024 said: “Reform UK will reject the influence of the World Economic Forum and cancel Britain’s membership of it.” A year earlier, he derided Labour leader Keir Starmer as a “full-on globalist, hanging out with his mates at the WEF.”

The UK is not a formal member of the WEF, an international think-tank, though it often sends government ministers. This year, Business Secretary Peter Kyle, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves and Investment Minister Jason Stockwood are set to attend on behalf of the UK.

High-resolution infrared images of Jupiter from the James Webb Space Telescope (Webb) reveal, for example, differences between high-floating bright clouds including the Great Red Spot and low-lying dark clouds. Also clearly visible in the featured Webb image are Jupiter's dust ring, bright auroras at the poles, and Jupiter's moons Amalthea and Adrastea. The footprint of large volcanic moon Io's magnetic funneling of charged particles onto Jupiter is also visible in the southern aurora. Some objects are so bright that light noticeably diffracts around Webb's optics creating streaks. Webb, which orbits the Sun near the Earth, has a mirror over six meters across making it the largest astronomical telescope ever launched – with over six times more light-collecting area than Hubble.
